| I think it should be * if * not * when * they stop producing.
Kind of a troll really the way it is. You're last option is just expressing your opinion hidden unsubtly in humour rather than giving a choice.
Besides pessimism, the only indicator that they might stop is Chain mail, but I don't know the actual text they used when discussing updating those to DDM. Do you have anything to support the idea they won't aside from thinking poorly of them?
Plus if it is expected that they will keep their promise, there is far more chance they will.
I fully expect it to happen, though my cynical voice inside keeps murmuring 'need schedule' or we may see one set released every two years.

Edit - Mod Note just in case: Please remember that the ‘be polite’ rule applies to comments directed at WoTC too, so keep that in mind for comments.

That could be good or bad. My optimistic self tends to think it means there will be a whole lot of Chainmail equivs released at the same time. I hear something similar occured right after the last Huge set...
I'll hold off on my happy dance until more info is forthcoming.
Posted By Shoe on 08/04/2006 8:40 PM hold off on the happy dance, but be practicing the steps... Conversations like this one are why I doubt it will be finished...a little wiggle room here, a little we're busy there and next thing you know nothing happens. For the record, that was a week before Gen Con '06. A similar situation happened the winter previous to the 4e announcement when those who had been clamoring for epic cards for old stuff now and then instead of constant new minis. Of course, no one remembers saying any such thing. Not even the guy who posted it on WotC. | | Hey Woman, Hey Woman!! Listen here. | Thanks for info, But I'd be more interested about what was said when it was first annoucenced re chain mail.
I'd gladly agree most statments given by WoTc (and other companies) leave plently of holes to wriggle through. | | "Mutton yesterday, mutton today, and blimey, if it don't look like mutton again tomorrer." | Call it a troll if you wish, Bert, YOU yourself used to support Chainmail conversions for 1.0!
Here's the post about Chainmail support: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=minis/ch20020627x
Discontinued after August 2002

We have some important news that we need to share with all of you. After a careful examination, the publishing business unit of Wizards of the Coast has determined that it needs to make a strategic shift in the miniatures category. We will no longer promote the Chainmail brand. Wizards will continue to produce miniatures, and we are currently working on our 2003 schedule, along with a business plan for a game that uses the Dungeons & Dragons brand. We intend to make the new game backward-compatible with Chainmail. What this decision means is that there will be a few changes to our release schedule for the remainder of 2002. The Chainmail Core Rulebook will be made available as an electronic download rather than a printed product, and the September Set 4 and all Set 5 miniatures boosters will not be released. We will, however, release the Kilsek faction box, the City of the Spider Queen box set, and Dragons I, Dragons II, Monsters II and III, and Heroes II and III box sets. Wizards of the Coast would like to publicly thank all the retailers, distributors, and game players who have supported the line and the employees who put so much hard work into the Chainmail products. It was a labor of love, and your support has been appreciated.
The key word here is INTEND. Miriam-Webster says:
transitive verb 1: to direct the mind on 2archaic : to proceed on (a course) 3 a: signify, mean b: to refer to 4 a: to have in mind as a purpose or goal : plan b: to design for a specified use or future
Yeah, I spose they can INTEND all they want, right, like they INTEND to print 2.0 cards for older sets?

And the most recent, as of March:

Heck, if they really wanted to show us some love, they'd provide cards for the pre-chainmail 3.5 and Silver anniversary minis -- Lidda's still Lidda, Jozan's still Jozan, I mean, it' s not that much of a stretch!

| If WotC has promised it, breaking that promise will be remembered. WotC is a big company after all, and I believe they can get a freelancer to do the conversions without paying fortunes :) So I believe it's more important for wotc to maintain good reputation than to save a bit extra.
And, converting old sets isn't that big of a trouble. I don't mind a few shortcuts. At least 1/2 of the figs may be simple creatures, with no fancy special abilities. They are easy to create and cost. All-starts reduces the size of the sets a bit, and maybe some figs will get equivalencies. It may also be possible that some of the figs will be made by us, using competitions... In addition, there will be
All these things, and the fact that WE are doing the playtesting increses the chances that we'll get all sets converted. | | My collected trade reference links Star Wars tactical combat -project My modelling/terrain pages Suomen miniatyyrikeräilijät / Miniature collectors of Finland

| I'm also firmly in the La-La-land. I'm so deep in hopeless self-deception that I believe Wizards will want to give older players a treat by publishing cards for one of the older sets and one of the newer sets together, starting with Blood War + Harbinger this summer.

| | Actually I recently posted that question to WotC via email. The response I got was that the plan was to eventually restat every mini, but that there was no definitive schedule at this point. That might be just a stroke job to keep the masses happy, but the way I figure it, without restating them all, that kind of makes vintage format a ghetto. If you want to have a format that includes every mini, then you need a compatible stat card for every mini. Hopefully they will follow up on that promise and do so. | | The Warmaster's Guild ( Online resource for D&D Minis Players ) http://johna3.home.comcast.net

| Agreed, I think they will find a way to finish it if they make it that long.
The only way I don't see the finishing is if DDM dies before they are done. Which I doubt, of course.

| Hope springs eternal, I hope they will finish the whole line but I really thing the real world will involve itself and things will get pushed back and pushed back until its years down the road and nobody cares anymore then it will just kind of fade out.
If this happens I think the WotDQ may be the cuttoff because they may want to give Epic somemore minis to play with besides the AtG set.

| I thought they's support the Chainmail figs, until I saw them produce in plastic what was once made in metal. The War Ape is identical in both sculpts, so why isn't it legal? I'd like to believe WotC will make all 1.0 figs available, but I just don't see it happening...again.

That really isn't news. Hardly a shock. To be honest, I still would support chainmail being converted. You would also find a lot more posts by me stating that WoTC should of converted Chain mail.
Not really sure why you think that is earth shattering or counter to what I just posted.

I do see a difference between intend and an absloute will. Intend is most definitely a wriggle-room statement, that has room to work around. Though obviously the intent of their statement was that chain mail would be supported. It is the first time I have seen the chain mail statment btw, which is kinda why, I asked what it was. This does not mean I am defending that wriggling around. Indeed one of the things that really does annoy me, is how easy some of the conversion would of been. No play testing required, and less than 30 minutes for a web page to be deisgned and approved.
But I feel the wording *is* different and less room to wriggle (execpt as I stated above, a release schedule of one mini very two years) so remain hopeful. I also feel strongly that if the consumer base doesnt think they will carry through, and accept that, then there is less reason to carry through in a timely manner.
~
mordeus: I don't see "they are already done with restatting.... so much for Unhallowed" On this poll.
And that's what I am beginning to get afraid of.
It may be postponed until after championship/qualifer stuff though I hope not. Then again delayed and late seem fairly common for WoTC judging by previews and past restating.
