So, I just got some DQ singles because I never bought a case of it...
Opened up my small black dragon and the head looked really weird. Turns out, the head was assembled UPSIDE DOWN! This thing had a lower jaw pointing down and an upper jaw pointing up and backwards! the horns were pointing the wrong way! The eyes were on top of the skull. Thing looked like a spider.

Anyway, i was just wondering whether this was a well-known occurrence and whether there was any additional value tacked on when something like that happens. (i actually wrenched the head off and re-glued it; i was just wondering if I burned a $20 bill by doing that).

And sorry, no pics. I didn't think to grab my camera.

I have a few error minis myself. I haven't tried selling or trading them so I don't know what they would be worth to people. The latest error I got is a greenspawn sneak repaint that isn't actually a repaint (or maybe it's a normal mini base with a repainted figure...I forget).

I have a Dwarf Artificer with a blank base and a bagged Cadaver Collector that's missing an arm.

There is a difference between collectible versions and production errors. Production errors like that are not generally considered "collectible" since there is no standard or intent to produce those defects. It might be useful to a player for RPG or a curio in Skirmish, but that is about it. Given the inherent variations between all minis, only INTENTIONAL variations are sought out. Repaints, Special Releases with Base notes, etc. I know of a few minis on the wrong base for example, I think I even have a few. Production errors.

The only reason that famous inverted airplane stamp is so valuable was that they produced the error, knew about it and intentionally destroyed them all, or so they thought until the 4 remaining copies of that error were found. In that case it was an entire run that was flawed.

One of the few errors in the DDM line I can think of is the Rare Dragon Wrought Fighter (IIRC) some of whom were not completely painted but got released anyway. There were a sizeable number released. It was effectively an unintentional repaint.

Built the addition for this addiction, now on to the "gaming table" project....

Zenako is correct, it's kinda cool, but not any value added except to a few odd collecters.

As long as we're citing errors in other aspects of collecible items, I should mention that magic card misprints and factory errors are almost always prized, including those cards that get caught in the pack-crimping machine. They're basically destroyed for any kind of tournament play, but they're highly sought after by people who want to collect a whole set of only crimped cards. So, it happens with oversights (like the blue hurricane worth something like $13k), as well as with production errors (like an off-cut that's so far off-cut that you can see 3 other cards)

I'm thinking of the Azer Raider with the small base, when it should have been a medium... But that was the entire run, so it's not that collectable, I guess. ;)

Most of the time, WoTC cust is pretty good about replacing broken parts, for those that lack glue skillz
