| Against the Giants isn't restricted just to titans and giants -- if you include the dragonborn, there are just as many dragons in the set. Dungeons & Dragons has (obviously!) had a long history of these scaly fiends and their friends. Elder White Dragon Of all the dragon miniatures that have been released since Dragoneye,
I think this one is my favorite. There is something about the pose that
just leaps out at me; this looks like the ferocious savage that the
white dragon is. With this second preview of a huge figure, I need to add another
snippet on Epic play. When you first get a chance to tear open your
boosters, make sure you look at the inserted checklist. The insert has
a specific rule for the miniatures game just for Huge creatures -- the
ability to squeeze. For casual play, you don't need to have a map
designed specifically for huge creatures. Here are the squeezing rules: | Squeeze:
Move, Huge creature only; treat this creature as Large
(2-square-by-2-square base) and move it up to half its Speed. At the
end of this move, it expands back into its normal size and must occupy
a legal position (including the space in which it ended the squeeze
action). While squeezing, the creature grants combat advantage to all
enemies and has -5 Attack (if it is able to attack while moving). It
provokes opportunity attacks from enemies that are adjacent to it at
the start of the squeeze. |
Dragonborn Defender Last week you saw one of the two Dragonborn in Against the Giants.
Now we show the other. This fighter, armed with a bone longsword and
shield, costs a comfortable 31 points. While a little slow, his damage
output is higher than average for his level -- especially if you manage
to bloody a few enemies first. There's another week down. Up next -- Demons and Angels. Here's a
little nugget of cheese for you to chew on -- there is a 3-point common
figure in Against the Giants that is usable in Wild and Underdark warbands. | (Not to scale with Elder White Dragon) |

So far there are just too many minis I would hardly ever use under 3.5 rules. Therefore it's probably going to be ebay only for this set. | | Champion of Regis | |

On the other hand, the Elder White is the best dragon in a long time. A long time.

| I like the White Dragon, although I am concerned about the amount of overhang the mini has.  Still, I'd rather have a Huge White Dragon with overhang instead of no Huge White Dragon at all.  I'm really not liking the 2 Rare Dragonborns. Even if they were Uncommons I don't think I would want any more than one of each. As Rares they are definitely 2 minis I hope I don't find in my boosters.  Next week sounds interesting. I wonder if we'll get a huge demon or just a large/medium sized one? And I wonder if the angel will look as awful as the one in DoDr  Olaf the Stout | | My Trade Thread 12 Trades Completed - Bert the Troll, Keoki, elf_ranger, kalle, Dropbear, twilightraven, SkYlyn3, Monolthicus (x2), qillan_dvra, xuthal, MMT 2007 My Reference Thread | |

Very nice preview. I like both figures. The Elder White Dragon looks awsome, maybe one of the best dragon sculpts ever; the Dragonborn Defender looks usable stat wise for the point cost.Â

| Nothing to see here, move along.
We already knew about the white. The overhang is absurd. Some people are excited by the pose, others are annoyed by the overhang. For me, the miniature is just going to annoy me if I try to use it in RPG, with miniatures ending up knocked over or positioned incorrectly - so I won't buy one.
Another dragonyawn? I don't like the idea of half-dragons for PCs, so I'll pass on this one too. As a rare, it'll be overly expensive on the singles market anyway.
Are we getting both dragonyawns and dragonspew (of various hues) in 4e? With worgs now looking liking dragonspew (the Guulvorg), it'll be a relief to see something that doesn't look like a dragon. I thought the new 'monster club' concept of the Monster Manual was going to do away with overlapping creatures. I like my dragons to actually be dragons, and I'm not interested in all of these half-dragon half-whatever type creatures.
I am totally bored by this set. It sounds as though we might get an Aboleth, but only after another pointless size category shift. I hope they confim that one blur as a cockatrice soon, or I'll be waiting on spoilers for the next set. | | Champion of the Bodak.Knight of the Aboleth.Squire of Gnomes. Friend of (Non-Ugly) Fey. | The 3-point piece for Wild/Underdark is probably the most important bit of news in this particular release. The Dragonborn Defender looks more than viable.
Eternal Blade Dragonborn Defender x4 Filler
Those breath weapons are now really sweet, and three of the attacks are +17 (30) against a certain type.
Heck, it's even a great piece of tech. It costs two more than the Wild Mage, is much more survivable, and its line attack can hit enough pieces to make it worth dropping the Wild Mage.

| The White looks awesome! I must admit it isone of my favorite chromatic dragons. Stats seem less impressive, but hard to tell without knowing the scaling of stats in epic. Right now it doesn't say: "I can handle the work of half a warband, pick me!"
I'll gladly take a few of these dragonborns. Statwise they look very solid at an interesting pointcost. And I don't mind the look either.

10:1 says the 3 point Wild/Underdark mini is some version of rat (normal or Dire).
Like the Huge White. Wish it didn't overhang quite so much (or that the wings were higher off the ground so other minis would fit better around the base).
While I'm not a fan of Dragonborn I do like the sculpt and the bone sword. Very dynamic. Unfortunately, the Dragonborn also appears to be overhanging his base and judging by the overhang I'd guess he's pushing over 35mm (close to the old Large-size). | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. I'm not enjoying the Dragonborn. It's an embarrassing rare with a lackluster paint job; both Dragonborn should be uncommon. The other Dragonborn looks better than this, and that's not saying much; what's with the figure-skating pose?

| Well, well, well. I am at the front of the line to complain about overhang. I am also at the front of the line to complain about size creep. FAR too many minis have been made too big for my liking!
That being said, I absolutely love the white dragon. It would be a total pain in the rear to skirmish with. Oh well. And for RPG, well, I will just use it as a gargantuan dragon if I have to (don't care about the base size when I am RPGing so much). But that dragon simply looks great! I hope that is what it looks like out of the box.  And now I finally have one mini I am very excited about in this set (I do kinda like the stone giant titain whatever it is... it will be a earth elemental for my world).
Making large minis basically huge minis on large bases sux. Making medium minis basically large minis on medium bases sux. Making 7' tall elves sux.Â
But making something like a dragon that can be just about anysize is different.  I could care less that it is on a huge base but is actually bigger than huge. White dragons can be bigger than huge. As long as it doesn't tip over, which I dont think it will, I am happy.
Just my two cents...

Icingdeath JR. is a nice fig.
The Dragonborn is a meh for me too, and I usually like Dragonborns. The pose looks more ackward than dynamic. Maybe it is the scale, but it looks small. I like Dragonborns to be hulking figures. They need to live up to their name for pete sake.

| Dang. This set looks the most likley for me avoiding a case ever. Too many rares I wouldn't want. Espically as I find myself caring less and less about the skirmish stats. There is some irony that in a huge set, the most sought skirmish piece is the 3pter. (and yeah, must be a rat)
Two dragonborn rares - meh.
I like huge Red/Silver/White but already have a Huge red, and Bahaumat can sub for when I might need huge silver, and Icing death is close enough for me to use as a huge white. Espically as looks lie will take the same space up on a battlemap. Not that I'd be upset with any of them as pulls, but *shrug* don't have that 'must have' feel.
