| This week we present two winged enemies: one from the Astral Sea, the other from the Abyss. Both of these creatures have effects that revolve around the bloodied state. One is easier to finish off when it is bloodied, while the other gets a huge damage boost against bloodied creatures. From a game design perspective, the bloodied state is a progress tracker. By having the game state change as creatures become bloodied, the game designer adds a powerful tactic a player can exploit. In the old rules, this was done with morale, but failing a morale save could cost a player the game. Abilities that grant advantages against bloodied creatures help retain some of the tactics that people utilized to take advantage of morale in the old rules but not to the extent that morale did. Angel of Retribution In Desert of Desolation, you found the fiery Angel of Vengeance. From the other end of the temperature spectrum comes the Angel of Retribution. At first glance, miniature battle players may dismiss this creature as being less accurate and easier to hit than other creatures of similar cost. The actual attack and defense numbers deserve a closer look. This Angel's basic attack is actually a bit more accurate than most. The ability to reroll a missed attack can be a huge advantage. Against a creature of approximately the same level, the angel should hit about 75% of the time, whereas without the reroll, the attack would connect only about half the time. Players using this creature should be careful to maintain it in an unbloodied state, because its defenses change with the bloodied condition. While this creature is not bloodied, enemies not immune to fear effects have a -2 penalty when attacking it. |  |
Gnaw Demon  Demons are driven to destroy. Some, like the Bar-lgura, choose to tear apart foes with their bare hands. Others use slightly more sophisticated methods such as the Balor's fiery whip or the slashing scimitars of a Marilith. The only desire for the Gnaw Demon is to consume. This low-level demon is a decent fighter at the beginning of a battle, but if you can protect him for a short time, his offensive potential skyrockets. A 17-point creature teleporting adjacent to a bloodied target and striking for 25 damage should turn anyone's head. Speaking of demons, my parting tidbit for this week: three creatures in this set have the Orcus keyword. Well, the news ain't good for Unhallowed in May. The last we heard, the
cards are in proofing. That means they're nearly done, but much depends
on how much other work is on the proofer's desk and how many errors
need to be fixed when the job returns to typesetting. All we can say
for certain at this time is that people are working on it and it is
moving ahead, but given all the other projects that are currently doing
the same thing, the finish date is an open question.
It should surprise no one that when a resource conflict occurs between
this project and a new title that's been promised to distributors and
retailers on a specific date, the job that's going to bring in the most
money wins and the job whose delay will cause the least disruption to
budgets loses. We're doing what we can with what we have. All we can do
beyond that is ask folk like you to exercise some patience.

Demon thing.....well as a demon lover, lets just say that when I saw last week there was gonna be a demon in the preview, I was hyped, but I don't really need a pot-bellied imp. Yet another meh for me.
I do find it weird that neither of these guys are in the MM. | |

| I like the Angel, but then again, compared to the other couple 4e Angels this one is by far nicer looking. Still though, I generally don't use Angels much in my campaigns so I'd want only one most likely. Being a rare is a good thing for this one.
As for the Demon, I like him! I'd be happy with at least a dozen or more. One of my favorite old school metal demon minis was a pot-bellied demon that looked kinda similar to this one.

Admittedly, I'd be excited to see some of the bigger demons as well in this set. Still though, the fact that there are at least 3 minis with 'Orcus' in their keywords gives me a little hope. | |

Actually the Angel of Retribution looks like the Angel of Vengeance from the MM and our previous Angel of Vengeance looks like the Angel of Protection from the MM.

The "angel" has weapons and looks like it could be attacking or engaging a foe, while the Demon is a little pot bellied munchkin. I've decided to reserve judgement on Angels until I get my greedy little hands on the 4e MM next week. Aesthetically this angel is pretty sweet looking and I could find an alternative use for it (unlike the previous angels) if Angels are still non-summonable good-aligned outsiders. | |

| | the sculpts look great on both (for once)... Stats are slightly meh... Angel has a gimmick or two that may make him worth his points but I really doubt it. The little guy could see some play in wild but the human sellsword is 3pt cheaper and does the same job with more hp... The teleport is a nice gimmick and the anklebiter ability is fun and funny (should pair well with stalker) but the total package is lacking. | |

| No use for the angel. I almost never use them, and there are already so many ones...
The little demon is neat. I'll have a use for an army of them, and I'm glad it's common (though I suspect it's gonna be quite expensive on the singles market). I can us it as a semi-decent proxy for a nupperibo anyway.
Still not enough to make this set really interesting. I'll still get 1 case or 2, but it could well be singles for the next ones... | |

| Wow Surprise another preview where there is no excitement. Sigh this is my own view...this is turning out as the worse set ever. Terrible huges and nothing that makes me go wow! (except white dragon)
