| While I have occasionally seen some cyanoacrylate haze on glued-together figures (which wipes off easily), I have to say that I am not seeing any kind of dust developing on my figures, and they don't get any special treatment--just a toss in a shoebox.
I have seen some bases with satiny finishes and others with flat or glossy finishes, is that what you're talking about?

No. This is more of a greyish white powdery look. Not black at all--satiny, glossy, nor flat. That would be how they are supposed to look, I would think.

I didn't know your dating was going so well.
Do we have an chemists around who might be able to figure this out? I'm digging out my NB minis to check when I get home.

| | I have not checked to see if my minis are affected by this but I do recall that Wizards had to change their formula to meet EU standards. That change may be the cause of this. It may have taken a set to figure out the formula correctly. | | | |

| Almost all my NB minis do have this problem, it rubs off, but you have to rub hard. And it's hardly possible to get off the hard to reach areas. In my experience it's not only the bases, but in some cases the entire minis, my Verdant Reavers are the worst. They turned from brown to grey.

| While the plastic may be decreasing in quality, I can assure you the glue is not. Just had an hour-long struggle with an Oni to remove its arms. The glue nearly won
I really wish they'd go back to the old base formula, though. The new bases are too soft and tend to warp far too easily. | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? | The one I really had problems with was the Ogre War Hulk. I pulled 3 or 4 and they were all warped badly.
I did finally get a couple to stay semi flat, but the bases are far from round. | | “There are many powers in the world, for good or for evil. Some are greater than I am. Against some I have not yet been measured. But my time is coming.” | |

No. This is more of a greyish white powdery look. Not black at all--satiny, glossy, nor flat. That would be how they are supposed to look, I would think. I found that on a few of my NB minis, not all of them though. Storage method is less than ideal; plastic box and my apartment has been warmer than usual the past few days. It wiped right off, nothing came off on my fingers like it would if it were dust.

Hmm, yeah, most of mine are fine, when i was keeping them in mostly ventilated areas. I'll have to check them in bins now.

| I found the white "powder" on a lot of my SWM when I dug them out for a skirmish game. Very low airflow in the storage they have (it's close to airtight)

I would think if the airflow was the causing this all of them would have this problem. I threw a prisoner on my shelf the night I got him and he has the powder. He's never been in one of my tackle boxes.
I'm more inclined to believe the plastic formula, or paint was changed for certain sets.
None of my D&D minis before UH have it. I haven't checked my SW minis but I will.

| | Biggest thing that I can see happening is with the summer sets. My NB and WotDQ are the most warped of all the sets (aka the summer releases). Perhaps one of the cuts they made was in how they stored the minis after manufacturing and prior to shipping. | | | |

| | Okay, is it plastic oxidation, or dust somehow attaching itself to certain pieces? I've noticed that if I "use" Night Below pieces (whether in game, RPG, or just messing around), then the "film" never appears on them.
