We're about midpoint in the previews for AtG, how are you liking it so far? Just curious where the community stands, as it seems to me everyone is split pretty hard right now.
You can post your reasons below, maybe it's the shiny metallic paints, the choice of sculpts, the scale... | | Greyhaze's DDM Spoilers Champion of a Medium Dog & then a Darkenbeast , Raistlin Majere, Nightmare WDQ25/60, Warduke WD60/60, Anti-Champion of Guns, "Knight of Bugbears", and Joke Champion of Venger. | It's not so much that I hate the minis, though there are a couple stinkers for sure, it's that the majority I've seen so far I only really want one of.
Chain golem, Air/Cyclone looking thing, Huge Carrion Crawler, All of the titans, the Dragonborn and all the PC/NPC types...I just can't see myself using or wanting more than one. Especially the huges so far. How often in an RPG setting are PCs going to run into multiple Elder Dragons? I like some of these minis, but I just don't want that many of them in multiples. It's singles market for any I pick up for sure, which may be better since my allowable budget for spending on my hobbies is at an all time low. I'll probably trade for the few rares I really want and hopefully pick up the commons I need cheaply.
Of course, there's been a couple of really great commons/uncommons in this set too, which is why I'm excited. I can always use another kobold. I hear folks saying that we have too many kobolds already, but my opinion on monsters like kobolds, goblins, orcs, etc. is that I'd rather have a huge assortment of them so I don't have to use multiples of the same mini when running a group encounter. I'll always be happy to get more, though some of the sculpts/paint on some have made me a little sad admittedly.
The other common that has me excited right now is the Ochre Jelly. I kind of wish it was large (though I do own one of the old OJs) but a part of me is perfectly happy with medium. This is one common that may see repaints into other colors, converted into other ooze type monsters, modded into a small shoggoth, etc... More oozes, fungi and slimes please WoTC!
I even like the Dwarf with a sword, though I will admit I only want one. It's nice to see races with alternate weapons other than the stereotypical ones. Having a dwarf that isn't wielding a hammer or an axe is nice. Now if we can just get an elf with a battle axe, a couple more female dwarves, dwarves with a bow or a staff, more PC minis with unusual or exotic weapons, etc. PC/NPC types are OK for me when they aren't one that I already own mutiple different versions of already.
I do like the Fire Giant, though the paint isn't as good as the GoL versions. I do wish his sword was a little more like the older minis for sure, but this is one rare I wouldn't mind eventually owning a couple of...granted I am kinda bummed he wasn't an uncommon.
All in all, this set is most likely going to be like the last few sets for me - with a few minis I really want, a few I really don't care about, a few I really don't like (though I'll still pick up at least one of to complete the set eventually), and several nice uncommons/commons that I'll be happy with. Hopefully we'll eventually see another Blood War set where the majority of the minis will absolutely rock, but I'll not hold my breath... | |
