Can anyone help me list down all the sets afflicted with softer bases? And while we're at it, could anyone give a reason why they opted for those flexible bases as I fail to see any positive result (for the collectors, not the manufacturers).

maybe they had to change the plastic due to the shortage of oil?

Wasn't it every set before Blood War?

I'm guessing, but I think that's right.

Heck, there have been soft bases on some minis since then too.

Define "soft base" everything except the Visejaw Crocodile seems to have a "soft base."

Bingo. It happened during Blood War. I'm pretty sure that most of Blood War was made with the better old style plastic and then they did another run to sell in Europe with the new crap. I'm not sure if the shoddier plastic made it to the states or not, but I'm sure someone more wise here can chime in.
