| I gave it an F. There is so little that I want in this set that it's not worth the effort to buy singles. 2 Huges (1 R, I U) and only 2 normal rares and a few C/U. There were more minis that I might've been interested in on name alone, but the paint/sculpts were terrible. The Huges were lame, the rares were crappy and a lot of the C/U were as well.
And please, enough with the shiny paint already. | | Eye dun no why youse guys think im not relly a person im jimgang from canada but im moving to cali as soon as i get a master card -Jimgang So, you stand at your grave, Has your soul yet been taken away? | C- Paint jobs, remakes, choices I would have made different, but to each their own. There are a few pieces I really like; bugbear, goblin, skullcleave, gwi, fisto, efreeti, yad, devourer, but the rest I can find something to complain about without effort.
I actually went through and scored it using an actual grading system, piece-by-piece. The set got 48%. So, it gets a fail from me. | c- I was really bummed with this set. Its seems as though WotC isn't even trying with their minis any more... What really sealed the deal for me was the stupid Owlbear. So in Bloodwar you've got this:
And then AtG, you get this: Which honestly looks liike a harry turd with arms.
Its a total bummer, A lumpy thing with a beak and two bendy arms with no joints, and shaggy fur doesn't qualify as a good monster! Especially a rare at that!
With miniatures for a new edition, I would expect WotC to hold them selves to a higher standard, to show how cool their new stuff is, not...well...drop the ball. What I'd like to see is that any sculpture doing a resculpt is given the old mini and told "You need to make it look at least this good."
A lot of these sculpts seem just...lazy. Like their sculptors didn't even try. And I know how it is, because I've sculpted in green stuff, and made my own minis, and really, its not *that* hard if you know what you are doing. And at the very least, WotC should be hiring someone who knows what they are doing.

| Just looking over the set, it looks like more of an undead set than a giant set. We've got 2 giants (+3 titans), not including "giant" animals like dire rats or "tiny" bears.
We have; deathpriest, degenerate, zombie, ghoul, wraith, doresain, boneclaw, devourer, blazer, death titan, blackroot, maybe I'm just imagining it... | | Greyhaze's DDM Spoilers Champion of a Medium Dog & then a Darkenbeast , Raistlin Majere, Nightmare WDQ25/60, Warduke WD60/60, Anti-Champion of Guns, "Knight of Bugbears", and Joke Champion of Venger. | | C-
Figures:bad paint jobs, meh scultps and poses.
Selection: bad chocies. The carrion crawler is the worst idea I can remeber, and there so many better choice for huges than what they picked. Too many recent redos and PC figures for the set. I can understand why they made so many PCs, but I don't need them for skirmish.
Skirmish value:Low. Unless they make epic a supported format the huges will sit in a box. Most of the figures are 45-60 points, you'd only need one or two for a 200 point game and all but two of the rares aren't worth using. 3pt rat and the Lurking Wraith seem usable though.
Should have said "D", I guess. I'm doing pretty much all singles on this one.

| I was disappointed with this set from my RPG view point.I had high hopes of getting another uncommon giant and that fell through.I feel that a lot of the small rare figs just don’t seem like they are worthy of being a rare.In fact some of the uncommons to me seem like they would make better rares. There are several awesome figs like (Elder White Dragon, Shocktroop Devil, Bugbear Lancebreaker) but there are some equally not very good figs (Furious Owlbear, Yuan-ti Anathema, Enormous Carrion Crawler, Cave Bear).Plus to many repeats that are not as good as the original mini in a previous set. When I look back on the War of the Dragon Queen gallery it seems like the quality and selection was a lot better.I feel like when I open a booster of AtG that I will be disappointed with 50% of the minis in it. With WotDQ I might be only disappointed with 10- 20%. | | | |

| So, I have to go with a C (firmly average).
There are some pieces which I'm surprised how much I like (Angel of Retribution, Bugbear Lancebreaker, Elder White Dragon despite the severe overhang, Hobgoblin Guard, Lizardfolk Raider, Shock Troop Devil, and Thunderblast Cyclone).
Unfortunately, there are also a large number of questionable choices/odd resculpts (Boneclaw Impaler, Cave Bear, Chain Golem, Owlbear, Gelugon, and Adamantine Dragon).
My biggest beef with the set is definitely the large number of extremely cartoony (ummm...didn't anyone bother to check the art orders before they were finalized???) minis including the Blackroot Treant, Cave Bear (what a bizarre sculpt), Deathpriest of Orcus (not sure why he's wielding a phallic object), Degenerate Cultist (apparently degenerate means encephalitis), Elf Arcane Archer (this is why clear plastic was not readily embraced when first announced), Elder Red Dragon (straight outta Pokemon), Golden Wyvern Initiate (Aspect of Pink), Hellwasp (there are better sculpts available at craft stores), Shadow Hulk (sculpt is good, colors are just bizarre), and the Yuan-ti Anathema.
There are some seriously hideous color choices (Hellwasp, Golden Wyvern Initiate, Yuan-ti Anathema). There are also some seriously questionable color choices that will make for decent repaints (Enormous Carrion Crawler, Efreeti Flamestrider).
There's even a mini which is extremely cartoony in sculpt, cartoony in paint colors, but I really like it: The Roper.
Finally, there are some redeeming includes which I'm glad to see (Cockatrice, Thunderblast Cyclone [i.e. Huge Air Elemental], Storm Giant, Ochre Jelly [repaint city, here I come], Galeb Duhr, Gnaw Demon, Goblin Runner, Flamescorched Kobold, Earth Titan [i.e. Huge Earth Elemental], Fire Bat, Death Titan, Doresain, and the Guulvorg [although I'm not sure why it's wearing armor]).
I'm glad there are some PC-type minis (esp. dragonborn) but it just seems like there are a LOT of PC types (I suppose that's good for new players but I'm just about PC-mini-ed out).
I'm just flabbergasted that the paint selection and sculpt art order made it out as is. The colors on a pretty sizable number of minis seem geared to the 4=6 year old crowd and many of the sculpts scream Toys R' Us bargain bin. | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. | | I gave it a D. Based on the gallery the paint quality seems to be a big step down from the last set. I don't mind a few resculpts, but each one seems to be worse than the previous version. I usually base my decision to preorder a set on the % of figures that I want in my collection. My cut off is usually around 25% undesirable figures. This set comes in at over 50% undesirable. | | Thailfi's Have/Want List Thailfi's References

| I voted a D+. When I did my personal rundown over which figures excited me visually, I ended up with more negative than positives. That's kind of bad, but there's some gems that save it from being a total washout.
My main problem remains the paint and the "cartoon" sculpts. These are not new problems by any stretch, but they have now gone on for so many consecutive sets that they can only be intentional. No War Drums paint fluke here, this is Wizards intentionally skimping on paint apps.

| C-. Too many resculpts that are poorer in quality than the previous ones. Too many crap paint jobs. This will be the first set since I started collecting two years ago for which I will forego cases in favor of select singles. I only want about 15-20% of the figures. Disappointing, to be sure.

There is a good variety, I don't mind the resculpts because I don't frequently keep multiple rares The scrutiny on the huges is high due to the fact they don't come out very often, certainly I would have picked for myself differently, but I'm happy with most of the rares & I don't strongly dislike any of the uncommons. | I gave it C, and even that's for it's DDM2 novelty factor. There's so little that is actually needed, few new nice pieces (Gnaw Demon!), and some reprints of old missing ones - which unfortunately have been fumbled. Just look at the paintjob of that Huge Red, I have no huge red and the paintjob almost makes me not want it! In addition to lack of paint layers, new glossy paint is terrible.
Doresain looks good in MM so I was curious to see what it looks like, but mini looks terrible in pictures. Priest of Orcus in turn looks great!
It's nice to have huge earth & air elementals, just too bad they need to be proxies. A+ for skirmish. Meta changing pieces. Set really rocks. A for RPG. Seems like a lot of good RPG pieces. B+ for quality. Some of the paint jobs seem a little week.
I am looking forward to the Pre-Release and opening my first AtG boosters. Then getting a case or two. Then getting what I am missing via trades / buying singles.

| I gave it an F.
This is from the perspective of an RPG-only buyer who has lots of minis already.
The D&D world is rich with many diverse and interesting creatures - many (and I mean many) of which have not yet been made. The resculpts hurt, but it's far worse than just that. The selection is dull.
It takes real effort to come up with this dull a selection - especially for the huges. No hydra, but lots of creatures that aren't in Monster Manual 1 in either 3e or 4e - and which look pathetic! I just can't believe how badly they chose these things. | | Champion of the Bodak.Knight of the Aboleth.Squire of Gnomes. Friend of (Non-Ugly) Fey. If the stats are actually what the spoilers post, then ill be dissappointed. I think that Skullcleave is far too powerful comparatively to anything else in the set and that they will be all over the place at the champs.

| Don't like the new Owlbear, but I didn't like the rager either (abs? really?). Gimme the harbinger one. I am really disappointed in the number of PC rares in this set (considering the cost of individual boosters). I went back and looked at the WotDQ to compare, and while that set didn't get rave reviews either, it seems much better than this one.
edit: oh, C-. If I didn't have that stupid compulsive collector gene, I'd probably get by with picking up a couple of singles.

| | This set is lame. Look at what percentage of votes have given it D's or F's. I gave it a D. And the hightest percentage is in the C's. I was so excited that it was a huge set, but this is awful. There are only 4 minis that I really want, maybe 10 that I would consider buying, and the rest suck royally. A new cartoony look, terrible sculpts on so many figures, crappy paint jobs, so many repeat figures, horrible huge selection = I don't buy minis anymore. I really think that some of the people approving these figures need to get some common sense smacked into them. Pathetic. Did I mention that this set blows chunks? The last set was sucky too. | | | |

| Having now actually seen and handled the AtG minus, I can only say "worst paint ever". Well, tied with Harbinger and DUngeons of Dread. The owlbear has 3 paint apps on a rare, and the white isn't even applied thick enough so the black shines through and it's paws and claws are not painted at all!
In general this set skimps out, letting large unpainted black surfaces substitute painting. Paint is also extremely sloppily applied, features get no highlighting (like EYES)For a supposedly "prepainted" set, I find this unacceptable.
