| The way I see it, the rarity of the bearded devil is what allows such an awesome sculpt and paintjob. I have no objections. You can always use them in small squads or as commanders for lesser devils in RPG.
I also like the Thoon hulk and the web golem - both are kinda creepy. I'm still getting over the fact that these minis look so good compared to the two earlier sets - Demonweb is gonna pose quite athreat to my finances! | | Champion of the Catoblepas

| I like plenty of them. Concerned over the number of reprints. I guess it makes just buying a set the easiest way to go when you really only want 1 of most of them for variety.
Not sure I need 2 large blue & 2 large black dragons... I guess it makes for a mated couple. I don't really want to think about the mated couple for the ettins or cyclops... yuck.
Happy enough. Though with 1/2 the set down and not released til November, it's going to be a long 3+ months.

| I blame the reprints on 4E although I'm not entirely sure why we are getting another cyclops and ettin so soon.
I do like that the quality of the sculpts and paints has gone up. Anyone else notice these aren't rail thin and small like some DoD2 and AtG sculpts? | | Originally posted by Schooly_D Username - he deals in minis Champion of Lhesh Haruuc Shaarat'kor

| Just transposing my thoughts on the pieces to here:
Dragonborn Paladin of Bahamut - Don't care for dragonborn, and this one sucks.
Kuyutha, Exarch of Bahamut - Don't care for dragonborn, but this one is much better.
Rakshasa Assassin - Cool.
Vicious Bearded Devil - AWESOME sculpt... RARE WTF AGAIN!? It's like they hates us precious... yesss, they hates us...
Drow Demonbinder - uh, it's ok.
Solamith - Uh, glee. Looks like the little nicorette demon, but not as cool. I don't think it's a good sculpt, and I'm not sure about wanting one at all.
Draegloth Favored One - Old Draegoloth looks better, this one looks goofy.
Shadow Flayer - Ok, works as a bodytamer for me... how come illithid faces look like playdoh lately?
Thoon Hulk - Not interested. Well, maybe. Ugh, I can't decide on whether I want a Thoon or not (wasn't interested in them in the MM5 either).
Black Dragon Lurker - New black dragon, cool. Necessary? Maybe, the other one is rather expensive...
Concord Illithid - Face, not good, the rest is good.
Skull Lord - Two skeletal thumbs up.
Yuan-Ti Malison Incanter - Looks pretty cool. Staff sucks, must be from the same stock as the elf arcane archer's bow.
Ogre Pulverizer - OMG OMG OMG, it's UNCOMMON AND looks like a 3.5 BASIC OGRE!!! *wets self*
Stormrage Blue Dragon - Looks pretty good.
Autumn Wind Ranger - I like the looks of this piece.
Blood Slaad - Nice looking Red Slaad... uh, last one was rare right? So, 2 of these kinds of rares is okie since you're not looking for LEGIONS of them (plz reference anger from Bearded Devil).
Brutal Ogre Warhulk - A rare ogre to go with the uncommon one... only it's basically kinda the same thing... would have prefered a shaman type or a female.
Curse Slaad - Ugly. Looks like a dr who troglodyte - and that's not a compliment.
Cyclops Hewer - Cool, different weapons from original, makes this one A-OK.
Ettin Spirit-Talker - Wow, this looks like crap, and it looks like they painted it poorly to boot.
Minotaur Warrior - As a RARE this blows. As a medium I'm not happy. They switched size categories in 4e... ugh... finally a good looking minotaur and it's the wrong size (for my use), but fits a niche for DL players and 4e - so I guess I'm the odd man out here. But, still, a RARE? Do people not want Minotaurs in droves? Am I the odd man out on this too???
Web Golem - Always thought this was a stupid golem, but the sculpt is nice - except maybe the head, it doesn't even look to scale. No paint eh? Par for the course on a lot of rares.
Girallon - This is an EXCELLENT sculpt. Do I want one? No. Didn't want the first UNCOMMON Girallon (with tail) either though. I'm sure many will be happy, I prefer this in the rare slot as I don't want it anyways.
Iron Dragon Prowler - New cool looking dragon, ok, sounds good.
Lots of hit and miss for me - but, it's a decided improvement from AtG. | | Greyhaze's DDM Spoilers Champion of a Medium Dog & then a Darkenbeast , Raistlin Majere, Nightmare WDQ25/60, Warduke WD60/60, Anti-Champion of Guns, "Knight of Bugbears", and Joke Champion of Venger. | Posted By Corim Danex on 07/29/2008 10:21 PM Wow there is fairly good quality but almost nothing I want. Even less than AtG. The number of minis I want with each new set is divebombing. My enthusiasm for collecting DDM is just dying on me.
I don't like mind flayers nor demon/devils nor the bizarre drow things. Just about everything else is a remake. The disappointment is like slogging through a deep swamp in the fog. The light is missing.
Corim, I'm gonna give it to you straight up... as each new set comes out, I think things are going to get worse and worse for you. "Remakes" are the future, there are not that many new things that can be made, just a variety of what's been done. And as time goes on, and new unique figures are released, there will be an even smaller pool of figures that won't be remakes.
You're criterium is pretty narrow to begin with; no devils/demons, no weird drow, no illithids and no remakes (which I'm guessing includes ANY variety of something that's already been made), cuts out a very large chunk of things that other people like.
The good news is, you'll be saving cash, the bad news is that each new set is gonna suck big time.
But, I am curious, what figures would you look forward to? | | Greyhaze's DDM Spoilers Champion of a Medium Dog & then a Darkenbeast , Raistlin Majere, Nightmare WDQ25/60, Warduke WD60/60, Anti-Champion of Guns, "Knight of Bugbears", and Joke Champion of Venger. That's why I am cutting down big time on the minis I have and ones I want. So many remakes mean less of each type of mini. Is there a reason why I need 10 of each sword n board guard/fighter? Why not cut it down to 4 each and still have a sizeable squad of the guys. | | Originally posted by Schooly_D Username - he deals in minis Champion of Lhesh Haruuc Shaarat'kor

| Some decent sculpts there. Some, pretty meh. What's up with the Blue Bulldog Dragon? Is the hind end of a dragon supposed to be so much less muscular than the front end? I love the pose, and the head on this guy, but the body proportion has me scratching my head. Could be just me. I also like the UC ogre. It may be the best sculpt of the set so far. Overall, if the rest of the UC/C can keep up with the ogre, I may have to buy a case. If not, it's singles again for me. | | Never teach a pig to sing. | Some members stand out more than, others, and Corim, I first noticced you because you are so vocal about your resentment towards demons and devils. And every time, I think: "Shush, mate, you're ruining it for the rest of us!" J/k - I love demons, devils, undead, and aberrations of all sorts. Anything that can give a campaign a dark and sinister tone is all good. There are always a few minis in each set that don't appeal to me - I have no problem with that.
I do, however, welcome all the resculpts/variations. Sometimes, a first attempt is unsatisfactory and warrents a retry, and variety is always good.
And greyhaze, I feel the same way about the web golem and the mind flayers. When i sawe the web golem illustration, I was like "meh", but looking at the mini: "I could see using that." And the faces of the flayers look like they were made from putty, and it's a pity, because the concord has a nice dramatic pose... I do, however, love the thoon hulk - that's a creepy looking dude...

| Is it just me or does this set seem like someone really smart is sneaking in a 3.5-based set under the guise of it being 4e knowing that if they make most of the minis overlap between editions they will sell a lot more minis? If both the 4e crowd and the 3.5 crowd can use the minis in their games, both groups will buy them.
Prior to Desert of Desolation I bought at least 1 case of each set (sometimes 2-3) and purchased singles to complete the sets.
I made a list of minis useful to me as a 3.5 player from AtG and DungoD and came up with about 10 from each set. Due to this, I haven't even purchased a single booster of either set, and i bought less than 6 boosters of Desert of Desolation.
Looking at the Demonweb spoilers, however, nearly every mini on Greyhaze's page could find a place in a 3.5 game.
It's either just coincedence, or they fired whoever was in charge for the last 3 sets and someone who's not a complete idiot has taken over miniature production at wizards.

Actually, I don't resent the demons/devils. It's the high quantity of remakes when there are so many I have been waiting so long for. I know that there's a lot that want the demons/devils. I was just saying that of all the rares, there was virtually nothing of interest to me and listed categories I don't really like. The mind flayers are another example of minis that I don't resent, but don't want either. I don't think I have ever expressed resentment about demons/devils being made. I have just said that I don't collect them anymore.
To greyhaze's question about what would interest me, I made a list several sets back of minis that I wanted, and most of it is still not made.

The said, I think it is important to recognise that from a certain perspective, the game is back to square one. The 60 all stars were a nod to the old gamers (even if many are dissatisfied with them), and the line was then marketed anew with 2.0. Many of us may have all the ogres we need, but new gamers probably don't. I for one like the two new ogres, because they look to be some of the best yet made. And in that regard, I welcome resculpts.

To be fair, we did just get classic monsters that were never made before in the 2.0 sets (DoD1, 2 and Atg) and not even counting the resculpts of classic monster people wanted: cockatrice, cyclops, gel cube, sphinx, horse, hydra, giant centipede, chain golem, huge earth elementa (earth titan), huge air elemental (thunderblast cyclone) and huge white dragon. | | Originally posted by Schooly_D Username - he deals in minis Champion of Lhesh Haruuc Shaarat'kor

| $117 for a complete set seems pretty cheap. Not sure I'd consider picking up an unreleased set from a Chinese seller. And the international shipping is EMS. Ugh
I'm somewhat surprised that these aren't leaking out of Hong Kong. This auction is based in Hubei.

| 799 Chinese Yuan (or RMBs) roughly equals $117 USD. According to the site that's for 60 figures, no cards. Add 20 yuan for shipping (~$3).
EMS is a really, really crappy international shipping company (same general function as UPS, but horribly expensive and unreliable).
For the record, the Google translations aren't as wonky as you'd think. Some of the Chinese used is a little wonky (unless they're using dialect/slang).
Oh, and I'm very sad that the Cyclops is rare. Axe-wielding Cyclopes show up in squads in 4e (should have been uncommon) | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? | I don't have a problem with resculpts of figures, so long as the resculpts offer something different or better than the previous ones. That was my biggest problem with AtG, much of the set was poorly executed resculpts. Not to say that there aren't some good minis in AtG of course.Â
These Demonweb resculpts don't bother me one bit because:
1. They are, for the most part and so far as we can tell from these images, superior to their predecessors. 2. They will have completely different skirmich stats. So if the All-Stars Blue Dragon isn't that good statwise, well here's a new one that might be better. Same goes for the Bearded Devil, assuming WotC gets around to restatting that far back.

| But rescuplts and reprints in theory dont bother the skirmisher.
I dont think the amount of rescuplts has anything to do with the skirmish game. Only the RPG. So thought it strange you had even mentioned skirmish reboot, or nods to that narrow % of mini buyers when discussing that newer players dont have enough ogres.
I guess I'mI confused your point then.

| What's up with the Blue Bulldog Dragon?
your mad thats an awsome scuplt
So 120$ for a complete set, minus cards 3 month before it becomes available? Man, I hope someone around here has the cajones to get it! That would be awesome.

| The challenge with the Large Blue and Black is that the first two were so good. It is tougher to go from a 10 to an 11 than to go from a 5 to a 10. If they just meet the same quality as the prior ones it is kind of a "shrug" moment. Now going from an Archfiends Clay Golem to a really nice Terra Cotta Clay Golem would be excellent. | | Do you like games John? Absolutely! | |

| While I'm okay with a few resculpts in each set, I start to get discouraged as both a collector and RP user. Adding a string of adjectives doesn't necessarily help a crap race/bad sculpt. I know a lot of people are psyched that Dragonborn are the next big thing, but are they all going to be rares? For a race that I don't allow in my home campaign, I have to shell out 12 bucks a piece to put it in a box and never use it. Now, I know that's my hang up, and not everyone elses, but you get the same thing over and over again, with Dragonborn and others that are even more unusable. To say that we've run out of monsters to make is not true, there's still a huge chunk of back history of monsters that can be updated and used from 3.5, and hey, seeing something new is almost always a good thing. On a kudos mark though, at least the sculpts in this set well exceed those of the last two! Hope the Commons and Uncs are just as nice!

| OMG!!!!! %$#^&*! Amazing. The sculpts and paint jobs are just stellar!
I'm wondering, since sets are produced 2 or 3 in advance AFAIK, if Peter Lee had his hands in the Master Paints on this one and if that is why we a seeing such a much needed quality jump? Yeah, it's a shame that core races like the dragonborn are rares and we get rares of things we need as uncommons (bearded d, cyclops, etc.) and yet have rares of things that used to be large uncommons (Girallon I'm looking at you), but if the Uncommon Ogre is any indication of the other UNC's and CMN's in the set, wow, just wow..... The new large blue dragon is definately my favorite to date, wow...
