Yes, thank you very much (and thanks agcooper1 for helping me get some of my focus back--it's been a rotten day and I've been in a bit of a tailspin for the last couple hours). I'll admit that WDQ looks to be my least liked set for quite some time to come, but those three minis are much appreciated. The new Hyena is top-notch, too!

Now, if we could just get a few of the Chainmail equivs I'd be extra grateful.

I do actually have a question, but I would like to start by saying thank you to the people a WotC who take the time to listen to what we have to say. I could list all the great minis in this set which we specifically asked for (mounted minis, non com, stirge, etc.), but that would take a long time so I will just thank you in general for them. :)

I like that you sent the posters out to the stores in advance. It will help to generate preorders which is good for all parties concerned.

my questions:
1. Is rarity distribution through faction a factor when making a set? I ask because LG seems to be weigted quite heavily towards rares in WotDQ.

2. WotDQ is weighted quite heavily in favor of evil. Did some of the good minis get dropped near the end of the process, or was it set to be so heavily weighted from the begining?

Thank you again for all your hard work to produce and market this game we enjoy. :)

This question is for:

Talafenix

There is a thread here at maxminis talking about a ebay auction. Here is the link to the auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/D-D-War-of-the-Dragon-Queen-POSTER_W0QQitemZ8822368425QQcategoryZ2537QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I noticed that the ebay listing says the seller is a WotC premier store. I didn't think premier store could sell promotional materials on ebay. Is it ok for some of the promo materials to be sold on ebay, or is all of this activity forbidden?

G'day, Ian!

If you could, I'd appreciate you posting a few thoughts about the current role of the RPGA in promoting the D&D RPG; how things are going, and how things may be changing.

I've been fairly happy with running my homebrew campaign, Age of Worms, Mark of Heroes and Living Greyhawk for my friends, although I'm occasionally frustrated by the lack of communication from the RPGA when there are problems. (e.g. adventures being late, or the event site being S...L...O...W...)

Cheers!

Question regarding the Prerelease tourney:

There are currently two large problems with regard to the WotDQ prerelease:

1.) Currently, it is advertised as a 500 point limited tourney. 500 point limited tourneys are not legal in the DCI rules for DDM.

2.) Further, the rules state that the following maps are legal in limited play:

Limited and Contructed:

War Drums Starter Set Maps:
Field of Ruin, Dragon Shrine, Teleport Temple, Broken Demongate*.

Fantastic Locations 1: Drow Enclave, Fane of Lolth, Mithral Mines, Tomb of Queen Peregrine.

Fantastic Locations 2: Hellspike, Magma Keep, Mushroom Cavern.

Dragon Magazine: Drow Outpost

Accordingly, if we ignore problem 1, Field of Ruins maps will not be eligible for the WotDQ prerelease (and are not eligible for any sanctioned 200 point tourney), and ANY of the above listed maps can be used in this 500 point tourney. This could allow people to use maps with narrow corridors to force huge figures to squeeze.

The question: Will the DCI rules be updated before the next tourney?

Related question: as there have been people that qualified for Nationals using technically illegal maps, will there be anything done to address the technically illegal map use?

I don't mean to be a pill, but if someone was 5th in one of those tourneys and wanted to be a pill, they could cause a bit of difficulty if they knew what they were doing...

Note after that it also states that: All DDM Maps produced by Wizards of the Coast are legal as soon as the maps go on general sale.

That cleans up the last part. The rest are great questions I'd love to see answered though.

Well, that is subject to discussion. 'All DDM maps' is not a defined term. It could apply to only maps included in products marked specifically as DDM products (e.g.; War Drums Entry Packs), or it could refer to any WotC product that may be used with DDM (including Fantastic Locations). If I were forced to determine which definition were accurate, I'd be tempted to go with the first due to the presence of the language that precedes the list of legal maps:
quote:
Only the following Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures Battlemaps released by Wizards of the Coast, Inc. are legal for tournament play:
Either way, clarification via revision of the DCI rules would be highly appreciated and advisable.

As I wondered in the topic of WotDQ case size, the boosters of WotDQ appear bigger than those from GoL, so:

can any of you tell us anything on booster and case dimensions?

In centimetres would be great!

thanks,

if this means what I think it means, please tell us cases ARE clustered for WotDQ.

Edit - I thought the clustered comment meant that two cases next to each other would give you all diferent rares.

A lot of us want to honor WotC wishes with regards to leaks on this site. There is a buzzing that we may soon have many more (perhaps all) of the stats for War of the DRagon Queen figures available. The initial reaction to the release of a fwe of these stats was 'not cool'. Is WotC opposed to seeing the rest of the stats leaked now? If so, when would it be ok with WotC for these stats to be posted here on Maxminis?

Inherent in this question is that Maxminis is *not* a WotC web site, and we are *not* discussing a policy issue. We're talking about WotC's preference, so that Maxminis admins can use this information in setting a policy, and those people that come across the info can make an informed decision on when to post it and how WotC feels about it being posted.

500-point Limited/Maps/Etc: Yes, there are some inconsistencies in the floor rules at the moment. Yes, we'll try to fix them. Yes, the three maps in the Fields of Ruin product are skirmish legal, as the floor rules indicate that DDM maps are legal as soon as they are made available, and the product indicates that those three maps are designed for the skirmish game (also note that each map in FoR has text that says "official D&D Miniatures Game Battle Map" on one side of each poster).

Spoilers: Personally, I would prefer to have stats of minis remain a controlled secret until the actual day of a set's prerelease. By "controlled secret", I mean that the information regarding specific stats appears in a previously approved and managed fashion: web articles, mag previews, promo minis, vague hints on messageboards, and so on.

At the same time, I don't want people to take discussions elsewhere - discussion about minis is why this site is here. There will always be some leak somewhere, since the world isn't perfect, but it would be nice if unplanned stat spoilers didn't happen until the week of the prerelease at the earliest.

To redirect some of the discussion in this thread - I've started a thread on the WotC boards to collect questions that Matt and I can address in upcoming Design/Development articles. We'll sometimes answer those questions in that thread, as well.

Thanks for the update Shoe!

So would we be considered a message board that spoilers come out in in a controlled fashion or a flood gate that is left open???

Not even bladders, if all this talk about people piddling themselves over the spoilers is true... (btw, great job on the set... although the entire success of the set will be determined by the Tavern Brawler (a.k.a. "What most of us would look like if we were RPG characters...")

The leaks were caused by 1 of 2 things:

1.) People with NDAs breaking their NDAs, or
2.) People without NDAs prematurely getting their hands on set info.

Given the WotC displeasure evident in the WotC responses here, I think we'll see more control of the Unhallowed information... although I'd tend to guess that they might have trouble getting their ducks in a row to avoid early release of Blood War glorpic.

I think it'd be great to see this information curtailed in the future. The leaks that are due to people getting to see sets in stores, etc... are bad news. Right now, I know that some *VERY* good players have had advanced knowledge of WotDQ. That advanced knowledge has factored into their planning for the national championships. That gives them an unfair advantage as they have been prepping for a world of fearless dire bears, mounted blackguards w/ chraals, and 8 X Tavern Brawler warbands (just wait...) for the past few months while others will have much less time to think through all possible combinations.

Can anyone give us any information about what WotC would like, or expects, the previews to be like for Bloodwar. What I mean is, shall we continue to expect Thursday updates? Shall we continue to expect both articles that are minis-focused, and articles containing info about minis that are part of larger articles? Do you plan to go with two figures per Thursday or three, or something else?

Previews for Blood War will start a few weeks after WotDQ releases. Weekly previews should be expected, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the format get shaken up a bit.

At Gen Con, I assume you mean... I expand on that: If it is 24 hours, does that mean that League Play (For DDM, SWM, AAM) is open 24 hours, or just that space is available for mini's play?

FYI, I just noticed over on the RPGA description of Gen Con, that the RPGA hall will be open 24 hours a day. No organized events are going on, but they are encouraging "open fiesta" for LG players ("go find a DM").

This may mean that the Mini's hall will be open, but no league... not sure of the point really.

Are the offical errata and FAQ on Wizards.com going to be updated.

I can see confusion for newer player with its constant reference to tiles, and it's section of what haooens whenyou are out of command still states speed=2, rushing when dificult.
As errata these things are meant to supercede what's in the book.

Moving Guy's clarifications to them would be icing on the cake.

This question is for whomever can answer:

What exactly is Skullsplitter supposed to be?

-The figure's not unique, so it's not his name.

-It's not a prestige class, last I checked.

-Is it the name of his axe?

-He looks like a barbarian (one of the best barb minis, in fact), but has seven levels of fighter.

So who is Skullsplitter?

Yes and we're working on it.

Woodland Stride came about when our plans for maps were still nebulous, and Guy and I are working on a clarification or potential errata for the ability to allow it to function normally in forest or tangle terrain.

From what I can gather, the Skullsplitter was intended as an update of the Human Executioner. An evocative name was chosen.

Ian:

The huge fiendish spider promo is 'suggested' to prerelease organizers for use in limited tournaments due, in part, to the difficulties of assembling a huge band from two huge boosters.

Assuming that the DCI rules are updated at some point to allow 500 point limited tournaments, what can be done for other WotDQ sealed (non-draft) tournaments to make sure that they are just as playable? Will the updates tot he DCI rules include some option to make these limited events more balanced?

Thank you. We have a WotDQ limited event scheduled for the middle of July at my FLGS, and I'd love to know what we can do to make this a great event for everyone involved.

Ian-

What format will the sealed qualifier be? We've got the first one coming up at gencon and I was wondering if it will be 500 sealed, or 200 sealed and you just dont use the huges out of the WoDQ boosters? Also what format will League be? 200 or 500? On Gencon webpage it says 200 but Im hoping 500.

Im out- find me on Hordelings if you want to chat.
