A few rules of thumb...

Large multihundred mini collections tend to end up selling for between 35% and 50% of the price guide values total. So for example if you totaled up all the individual value and got $3000 for the lot, then you could expect to sell the whole lot from between and $1000 and $1500 or so.

EBAY prices for singles and small groups tend to be about 50% to 66% of the Guide prices (with some occasional excursions obviously).

Complete sets have consistently sold for about 50% +/- 5% of price total for that sets summed value of the individual minis in the guide. This is based on literally hundreds of sets sold on EBAY over the past couple of years.

Commons and uncommons (except for a select elite few) are generally most succesfully sold if either in A) large lots, or B) medium sized lots with a focus. Paying a few bucks for shipping for a $20 rare is one thing, but paying that same shipping charge for $0.59 cent mini tends to put off many bidders.

There are a few minis which break the pricing mold and get hot on EBAY for whatever reason. Currently Drizzt is often going for over $50 in auctions, and the LSD did that last fall. A year ago the Thayan Knight was often topping $20 or more, but can be had for less than half that now. If you want to purely maximize total dollars then you need to go the singles route and selectively offer the "hot" minis at any given time and not pay to offer those that will only sell at a level to cover costs and not much more.

Built the addition for this addiction, now on to the "gaming table" project....

I'll back up Z's post here with some of my own experience. I purchased a large lot off ebay of about 1200 figures. I've been working to sell them off and in general the complete sets I have sold have followed what he said.

I got 500 for harbinger, 400 for archfiends, 310 for Giants of Legend. Currently my Dragoneye set is at about 215. I espect it to get up to about 260 or so, which is about accurate as well.

I listed all of the figures that weren't part of sets here as singles and sold a lot of rares through here. I've sold a lot of commons/uncommons as singles as well, but I've sold way more through ebay as lots of between 20 and 40. People generally bought my commons/uncommons along with rares, and now that I am about out of rares the common/uncommon sales here have dropped off. On ebay for newer figures I am averaging about between .35 and .75 per figure for the lots. It varies a lot from day to day. Older lots from harbinger - Archfiends have done better, but I haven't sold any in awhile and cannot quite remember how they did.

Looking to buy some figures? Chances are I may have them!! Check here!!

Has anyone sold a complete set since January 2006? Curious to see whether nycfarmkid's prices remain typical.

Harbinger has kinda reached a peak from what I can see with sets going in the 500-600 range with sometimes more (but need to read the fine print since some collections up for sale include extra minis), with Archfiends being a close second at times, and that is driven by the few heavy hitters in the set (Drizzt and LSD). GOL will often go for over 200-300 and sometimes more, but most of the recent sets are locked into the ballpark $200 range with some sales going as low as $100 (usually with a poorly titled auction) or much higher. Will dig out the latest I have sometime and update this thread with data instead of recollections.

Thanks for the update Zenako. I'm getting closer to having two of all the Harbinger rares, and when I do, I'm thinking of selling a complete set. (Similarly, I'm close to having at least two of all the Archfiends rares, and I may do the same when I get there.)

I have thought, instead, of just going the eBay route with the single, high-value rares, but I like the idea of a wad of cash all at once.

My goal is to use the funds to purchase a nice laptop. Still, it'll be a while--I have several rares yet to go.
