From a visual perspective, this looks like poo. At no time should there be a header with only one item underneath it. Either delete what's there, move it elsewhere, or add more to it. I've always been told the following:
If there's an A there is always a B and sometimes a C.
For the fact that the black headers are so strong a color anyways; two categories underneath them even seems like too little.
I would suggest
Maxminis General - General News (news about the site, Stickies, policies etc goes here) - Forums Discussion (bugs, requests, features, etc goes here) - Miniatures News (The old General Discussion) Skirmish (Keep the skirmish discussion under one roof) - DDM - SWM - AAM - DB Trading (Keep all business related stuff in one place) - DDM - SWM - AAM - DB - References - Q&A - Marketplace Meetingplace (Meet and greet fellow players of all things miniatures here) - Tournaments - Meeting place Odds and Sods (Stuff that's too cool for school) - Roleplaying - Crafters Corner - Off-Topic - Vassal
Should keep black header gunk to a minimum, and a more organized setting for what this site mostly is. (Honestly, how many people here -solely- play AAM/DB/SWM?) | | Champion of the Alhoon and my called shot for Unhallowed Blood War Called Shot: Phoenix Trade withe me!

| I think perhaps you could condense the SWM, AAM, and Dreamblade sections into one heading, called "Other WotC Miniatures Games" or something similar. Given that these categories only have 2 boards each in them anyway, combining them all would let me use the +/- thing to hide them all without taking up as much space with the section header.
I'm also not sure we necessarily need to have 4 separate trading forums, but I'm not really a trader so I'm not sure. It seems to me, though, that given the relative number of posts in those forums that it might make sense to consolidate all the trading posts into one board, much like the marketplace.
I also wish the roleplaying forum was accessible without so much scrolling, but I'm not really sure where it would be appropriate to place it. Is this forum software capable of letting us completely hide some forums from view? That would probably solve *all* of my issues with the layout. | | Anson on WotC boards

Yikes. And now I don't.
(Not that it seems to matter.)
Robby, actually - it does matter. Quite a lot. I'm rather annoyed that the newest re-org actually went away from something you liked.
Vash - that's a very nice scheme you've worked out there. I'll pass it on to the webmaster for approval. In the end, he's determined that the format should be changed to appeal to more than just DDM players, but I'm pretty sure we haven't got it right yet.

| I guess when I have a LOT more time again, I'll love clicking on all the different forums and trying to figure out why and where the posts were moved to (that's the worst--that they were MOVED--why should I search for a thread that's in progress when I already knew where it was!).
But, right now, I just wanted to bop in and grab my quick 5 min before work and I can't find anything. 1) post movements, blow like diarhea. 2) all kinds of odds and ends are now in DDM-skirmish?? 3) general isn't very general anymore.
Oh well, wake me when it's over. I won't have time to get back here until after GenCon anyway. I guess eventually I'll have to figure out how to use Max again, or make the plunge and figure out how to use Hordlinngs. | | *WoTC Delegate (Chicago)* :=: My Trade Thread :=: DISPUTED TRADE WITH TREE DRUID!!!!!!!!

| So far I like the changes (mostly).
I do use, have no interest in, and will not look at Dreamblade (sorry).
Keep up the good work.

| Am I the only one who is annoyed that the right third of the screen is taken up with that chat window? Is there a way to hide it or something? Regards, V | | | |

| The right third is taken up by the chat, and the left half is taken up by the user ID. Leaving 1/6 of the screen devoted to the actual message. | Just wanted to add my point of view... I think that the sum of new layout and new organisation is too much. I am, as most people having been here for a long time, quite reluctant to any kind of change in my habits. However, I can understand the reasons for change, but so many things are not working in this new environment (that is, either not working or I haven't been able to find the right button that I decided to voice my opinion anyway. 1/ The new "layout": well... I can get used to it. I reaaaaally don't like it now, but I can get used to it. However, all the new options and new ways of doing are so uneasy to find that I feel like my dad did when he discovered the dreaded VCR technology. I believe a "tutorial" of sorts would help people find their way here. And the chat thing? Ugly. Non-practical. Detracting from the forum experience. 2/ I have thought for a few days that the maxminis community was no more. Due to the "General" having threads a week old on the first page. Then I discovered the move of the old "General" topics to the DDM general, and stuff. Well, that's something I don't understand. I believe most people here are interested to know about DDM, SWM, AAM, Dreamblade AND THE REST, as long as it remains "general" news and views. Once those become too detailed, e.g. skirmish discussions or custom minis, I can understand the need not to clog the general and move to "specialised" forums and threads. Now I had to look hard to find out people's opinions on Blood War preview 2. I would like to read some general info from people having seen the dreamblade minis. I am interested in taking a look at the upcoming SWM huge pieces. I KNOW I can read all the forums and find the info, that's not my point. My point is all this "too fast-paced to follow", "generic" news, that is the heart of the community. 3/ Not a huge lot of other issues now, but I think many small things add to the general feeling of "distress". Trading is problematic. H/W lists have disappeared. Can't find threads. Can't find people. And the fact that we are in a holiday / no big news period, many people are just not there or not posting, adding to the feeling of emptiness. Actually, that is my feeling of late - I feel "alone" when on maxminis. Never felt that way before... crowded place, opinions, useless news, can't track a thread because it's moving to page 2 too fast... now I'm looking at one-week old threads on page 1 of the "General". I hope this will help the "doers" understand the point of view of a quiet "old timer"... Anyway, thanks all for actually DOING something for this community. Me and all the others complaining is only OK insofar as we don't forget to THANK YOU for all the time you're spending trying to improve things - despite my point of view at this time, most changes in the past were for the better. | I have no problem with the layout. It's different, but I'm getting used to it and it's pretty intuitive where things are. If something needs to be fixed, it's the fact that the left side dynamical sizes the entire screen layout. Not blaming anyone (you can't help your address), but one person's web address wrecks the entire screen and scrunches up the text of the post. There must be a better place to put them.
