Hello,

I realize still buggy and still brand new but these are my issues

  • Where is the Memeber's Page?
  • Where are the titles, specially the custom titles?
  • Displaying the user's URL under the name is horrible, my site's url is quite long and as you can see it destroys the look of a thread by being too wide.
  • Chat window is cool but why? If I wanted to chat I'd remain on IRC and wouldn't need forums. There will be a lot of information and would be posts lost to the chat window.
  • The do not display me in the logged window check on settings is not working. Some people like to lurk and remain invisible, having to adjust new settings in order to do so will be a turn off.
  • Need more smileys.  Having a code to insert smileys and knowing it is a hell of a lot faster than having to press the button and make a selection.
  • UBB code was cool.
  • Having to know HTML to make a nice signature ill be a turn off for some.
  • Instead of "update" try adding a big obvious POST button, some people are not sure what to do and find themselves pressing the insert smiley button instead.
  • The Rating system for Threads is a loaded weapon, much dissing in the future.

I'll add more as I see.

Thanks

Also, the chat window needs to be in a separate frame, so that it does not have to reload everytime you open a new thread.

I am missing the View Active Posts feature quite a bit...

The Profile page that had a nice run down of the a user's collection doesn't seem to have made it over either.

The trade interface has lost some recent data.  It gives error messages when attempting to email users.  I also got a user error when attempting to update my H/W list.

There needs to be an option to turn off the chat window. It's just annoying to see things popping up out of the corner of your eye while you're trying to read posts in the forum. And I definitely agree about the url being displayed under a person's name and the big huge smiley button vs the itty bitty little update button.

I think that chat in the long run will cause alot of grief. It will cause flame wars and trolling and spamming. It really does take away from the reason of having the threads. Also I have already seen where people will not be on the site as much anymore because of the chat because its blocked or not alllowed at work. Just my 2 cp. I use it but it can be distracting.

Also the update link on the bottom after you type your post should be called something else.

A few problems I've noticed.

Email addresses are displayed on the user's page, instead of hidden. That's an open invite to spammers. Bring back the function that lets us email maxminis usernames, without actually being able to see their "real" email unless they reply back.

The shout/chat box is a bad idea in the long term. Kill it, or just create a chat section that's seperate from the forums.

I really liked having the little options above each post for editing, emailing the author, replying, etc.

That being said, it looks nice, and once I get used to it, I'm sure I'll like it, particularly the blogs, as that's where I plan on putting my aquatic articles.

More suggestions:

Put a reply to thread button at the bottom or top of the threads, its confusing having them only in another persons post makes you think you are replying to their post not the thread in general.

We need a link to either the last unread thread or to the last post in the thread.

Like others have said the URLs are an eyesore as is the chat window.

Post buttons are much more obvious then update links

I still cannot upload my avatar, when I try it looks like it uploaded, but when when I click update its still not there and when I go back to the usersettings its back to noavatar.gif

Overall I like the new look.  Good job

From my PoV a Huge problem is window spacing.  I only run 800x600 and looking at the threads I have about 1/2 the screen devoted to who's posting, 1/3 to that chat box, leaving only 1/6 for reading the actual thread.

The top post requires extensive scrolling for me to read it.

yeah the top post requires more than a whole page even on 1024x768,  that chat bar has to go somewhere else, a seperate frame at the bottom of the page would work, but might still use too much space.

Is there a problem with the trade history because mine doesn't appear...? Page can't be displayed and it was working earlier.

Some sort of tutorial on how to insert pictures would be nice, since the [img][/img] tags no longer work.

I'll add to the requests for:

Smaller insert smiley button
Larger/more obvious Post button (Change "Update" to "Post")
When clicking on "reply," why does it quote the post you're replying to? How about a generic "reply to thread" button like there used to be?
Smaller User Profile windows--they eat up WAY too much of the screen
Auto-sizing avatars--several avatars are enormous now

I'm fairly indifferent to the changes to the looks of things. I'm pretty well miffed about the drop in user-friendliness (and it's a substantial drop).

Just  a noob here, but I wanted to say that I don't have a problem with the chat box. I found very useful and helpful. If so many are having a problem with it, maybe it would be better as a option. I think that was already suggested. Other than that, just wanted to thank you all again for helping me out and making me feel welcome.

later,

D

How do we figure out who are the moderators for a particular board, now-a-days?  I'd like to report a post (or several) to the appropriate moderator.  I suppose I could just e-mail Merric when I get home.  I just hate to dump it on him if there's another moderator I can bug.

Also, I really miss the e-mail function.  I can't access my non-work e-mail from work because of the firewall, but I used to still be able to send e-mails to people at maxminis via the board.

Not sure how to know who the mods are, that is one of many things missing from the new interface.

I really think that the inclusion of the web links in the avatar space is a waste, it ends up using 1/3 of the screen (left hand third) when reading a thread, while the right hand third is blank due to the space above it being grabbed by the chat window.  Chat window should somehow be able to be shut off.  I have taken to reading posts while not logged in since the chat window only appears when logged in.  Of course that also makes it hard to reply to threads as well.

I do not like thread software, I cannot figure out how to just add a new entry to a thread without ending up with someone elses entire post copied into my post.  Gave up trying to sort that one out.

The little red boxes don't do much for me either as others have mentioned.

I miss the member lists and ability to sort them and the like.

The box with active users is a nice feature, kind of like what used to be on the WotC boards (been so long I am not assuming it still works over there.)

The language at the bottom of the reply box should read post, not update IMO.

enough for now.

Gotta second both of those comments, big time.

Did select some forums for tracking as a test. Can't unselect them anymore. Now I get loads of e-mails from maxminis everyday. Please fix!
