Moderators need some guidelines.

Should we moderate in forums not assigned to us if there is an urgent situation?

What should be done when we see discussion of NDA/confidentiality breaching spoilers?

Is there a way to remove/move a thread?

We need a head moderator to make, maintain and distribute these types of rules...

The new forums allow many more functions for moderators than the current forums.  The current forums had a bug when I tried to assign moderators to particular forums that prevented me from doing so, and moderators can't move or delete threads.  This is some pretty basic functionality that must be there.  We're working quickly to get the new forums online.

I think locking the thread and editing it as you did today is an excellent remedy in the short term.

Having an admin/moderator only forum on the new boards would be a useful way to deal with these issues.  In the past we were able to discuss moderation policy and attempt to be consistant when adjudicating problems.

Also, I'd suggest creating a clear "chain of command" when it comes to who's the head moderator, who moderates each board, etc.  That will help clarify some of these issues in the future.

A chain of command and guildines would be great. LCS & Zenako gave some great advice in an abpove thread abouts mods cleary stating what they are doing.

A mod only section seems really nessacry to sort out issues and debate before having united face stuff.

I am going to be in charge of organizing the moderators, putting together and/or updating written standards for moderation and posting, and dealing with users who aren't able to meet our expectations for polite participation.

There are some general guidelines in the "Moderators added" thread here in Forums:

http://www.maxminis.com/Forums/tabid/36/forumid/14/threadid/395589/scope/posts/Default.aspx

I'll be working on a more comprehensive set of standards and guidelines.

If you have questions about how to handle a particular situation, you can post more general questions here and I will answer them, or contact me via email about more sensitive issues.

If there is an issue that requires urgent attention, please use your best judgment about how to handle it, and then contact me and webmaster if necessary.

So I take it you're the new heard moderator LCS?  If so, congrats.  I'm looking forward to seeing those standards and some more structure here.

Let me know if there's some way that I can help.

Thanks!

I will be posting here as I finish various drafts, and will be looking for comments and suggestions for improvements to them.
