| If there is one thing about this forum software that I simply can't stand... it has to be the way it does quotes.  GRRRRRR!!!!!
Sorry... thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

| Yes... it's a big pain in the neck. It bothers me to no end... and makes me pine for the craptacularness of Snitz Forums.

| Half of the time I reply with a quote the cursor appears IN the quoted
text and I can't add my message below the quote without editing it in
the HTML format.
Then tonight I posted and went to edit my post. My original message was
gone but the quote was there. I retyped my message and hit submit and
it posted it with the original vanished text AND my new edited text.
Please do something about how the forum handles quotes and edits...it's
really frustrating to spend several minutes trying to do a simple thing.

| Yep. I get different functionality in the Quick Reply box, or in the edit boxes, or in the regular reply boxes from time to time. The lack of consistency and the finesse required to get things to look how I want them to look is one of the reasons I don't post as much as I used to.

| I agree with this thread that the quote button is pretty lame. I came up with a workaround, as follows:
1) Click the quote button. The quoted text will appear in a grey box.
2) Go through the quote and put % % (without the space in between them) whereever you want to split the quote up. 3) Press the Submit button
4) Edit the post, this time it will appear broken up as you instructed and you can simply click and type in the open space it created for you.

| A second workaround:
put [/q ] wherever you want the quote to stop and put [q ] wherever you want the quote to start again (remove the space inside the bracket).
try the % % workaround though, it works really good.

| Bert.... are you using the Add Reply button or Quick Reply?
Normally the add reply, the quick reply i just type with the brackets
this post was in quick reply though | | "Mutton yesterday, mutton today, and blimey, if it don't look like mutton again tomorrer." | That, my friends, is far too much effort for posting on these forums.

p.s. Thanks for the workaround, even if I'll never use it. | | I'm in Urbana, IL

Well, it does work, but it feels like (when editing) the result will appear in the grey box.
2) Go through the quote and put % % (without the space in between them) whereever you want to split the quote up. 3) Press the Submit button
4) Edit the post, this time it will appear broken up as you instructed and you can simply click and type in the open space it created for you.

I dont see the diffculty to be honest.. I must be doing something you're not. If you are in quick reply, use [quot+e][/quot+e] like as always. If you are in 'add reply', cut the text from the quotes as normal, press quote button and paste it in grey box. Like you would if there were [].
p.s. Thanks for the workaround, even if I'll never use it. I don't use that workaround.

| I don't see why we need a workaround. I've never used a forum that did
wacky things like this forum is doing. Shouldn't this be something easy
to get working right?
Again tonight, I clicked Quote to reply to a message. After typing my
reply below the quoted text & posting it, it kept posting the last
line in the quote in my reply area as if it was part of what I had typed it even though it
was within the gray area during my edit. I finally figured out that if
I added my own [/q ] tag at the end it would keep the last line of text
in the quoted area after I submit the post.
Why would I need to manually type the end tag when it looks correct in
the "preview"? It's as if the server is removing the last quote tag and
messing up the format when it publishes the post.
Also, why do we not have a Preview button? With the difficulty I have
just trying to quote text (without typing the tags manually), it would
be nice to preview the post before publishing it so I know the format
is correct.
