| | Maxminis mods, I'm really hoping that I can get some answers here so I can continue to use this site. My frustration level has just about reached it's end with these forums "bugs". I cannot post any lengthy topics without all the text running together. Where the text should skip straight down to the next line, it doesn't. I had given up for a while with my old trade thread because of the frustration and moved over to WotC. Today I decided to just try and create a new trade thread to see if I would have the problems there. And sure enough, I did. Is their anything that can be done because i really want to continue using maximinis but I don't have the patience to type a bunch of code for all my posts. | | Trade References||60 Trades Completed||Louisville Gaming Society||LGS Forums||Trade With Me Steven C Johnson, LGS Administrator All Gamers of Any Sort are Welcomed!

| Okay, Now I asusme you want space between paragraphs?
Like so? Or more space between lines?
I can just get them by pressing enter, so am not sure why it would not be same for you. So will need some info to help.
By "I decided to just try and create a new trade thread to see if I would have the problems there" do you mean you had same problem at the WoTC board?
When typing, do you try the lengthy posts in the quick reply, or the 'add reply'?
When typing, do you see code markup (stuff in brackets> ). If so, try clicking on the design tab on the lower left.
What happens if you copy and paste paragraph breaks. try copy n pasting this into a new 'add reply' :
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
Does it keep the spacing?
Do you use Internet explorer? Or what browser and version? Windows/Mac/*nix?

| | Even when I try to quote you, your text all appears as one big jumble with the page breaks listed as < br > without the spaces between <>.
So essentially every place where you move down a line, it shows the above formula for a page break as opposed to actually just moving down. It makes it essentially one giant paragraph with no obvious beggining or ending.
I use IE7 I think. Its the ltest version which i upgraded too after this problem first arose. I do not have this problem anywhere else except on these forums. I run my own website and have no trouble there either. | | Trade References||60 Trades Completed||Louisville Gaming Society||LGS Forums||Trade With Me Steven C Johnson, LGS Administrator All Gamers of Any Sort are Welcomed!

| | That seems to work fine copying and pasting because the page break formula is already in there. If I click reply or quote or new topic, it doesn't work. | | Trade References||60 Trades Completed||Louisville Gaming Society||LGS Forums||Trade With Me Steven C Johnson, LGS Administrator All Gamers of Any Sort are Welcomed!

| its because you are using IE 7. dump it its full of bugs and security problems and really not much better then IE 6.
or don't and manually type in the breaks if you want a space then you have to put in < br >< br > minus the spaces. | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums

| | It did it with IE6 as well. Thats why I upgraded to 7. If I have to manually type page breaks, then I'm not interested in using this site anymore. It takes way too much time to convey simple messages. | | Trade References||60 Trades Completed||Louisville Gaming Society||LGS Forums||Trade With Me Steven C Johnson, LGS Administrator All Gamers of Any Sort are Welcomed!

| | in IE 6 do you get the design view and html buttons at the bottom of the editing window?
If so all you have to do is click the html button. | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums

| Here's what I've been able to find or figure out so far...
When you use the "Reply" "Quote" or "Edit" links, or create a new thread, in the section for the body of the post some of us see a textbox and others have an "editor".
The current editor checks the "User Agent" of the browser, and seems to limit itself so that it loads as a regular textbox if the user isn't running certain versions of Internet Explorer (and 7 is out of the allowed range). If you are able to change the "User Agent" used by your browser to IE6 (aka Windows MSIE 6.0), the editor should appear although some of its functions might not work correctly.
The editor can be replaced, but I haven't found any potential replacements yet that should work with all of the more common OS and browser options. Even when we do find a replacement, it may take some work to get it installed and running, since it most likely needs to be installed as part of the software that is running behind the scenes (DotNetNuke) rather than as part of the forums.
I can assure you that I don't enjoy having to manually enter line breaks either, so this is a problem that I would also like to see fixed soon. Running Safari on MacOS X, I've found that the "Quick Reply" box at the bottom of existing threads works fairly well (and does line breaks properly), so I can avoid using the other semi-functional editor page in many cases.

| | Thanks LCS. I guess I'll try maxminis again in the future. It's a shame really that an upgrade has caused so many problems when the other style worked fine. | | Trade References||60 Trades Completed||Louisville Gaming Society||LGS Forums||Trade With Me Steven C Johnson, LGS Administrator All Gamers of Any Sort are Welcomed!

| | Didn't fix my issue. I trried to make a new trade thread and it still is missing the page breaks. Thanks for trying but I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that I can no longer use this site. | | Trade References||60 Trades Completed||Louisville Gaming Society||LGS Forums||Trade With Me Steven C Johnson, LGS Administrator All Gamers of Any Sort are Welcomed!

| Myth Master, does the edit page you are seeing look more like:
(A)

or
(B)

The coloring and style of the buttons might be slightly different, but you should be seeing something close to one of those two possibilities.
If it looks like (A), it might just be that you need to click on the "Design" tab to switch the editing mode. As far as I know, that setting ought to "stick" so that you don't need to click on the design tab each time.
If it looks like (B), and you are using IE7 with the user agent patched to IE6, then there is still a setting somewhere that is preventing the special editor module from being loaded. Do you know what the user agent was changed to after you used the tool Idzy mentioned? Otherwise it's possible that your security settings or cookie preferences are causing the problem, but I can't provide much guidance in that area since I don't have easy access to a PC to check it out myself.

| It's more like B. I don't know how to take screen shots or I do it. Either way, I had the same problem with IE6 after the most recent upgrade. The forum before that was the best you've ever had IMO. Here is the user agent info that I have from the tool Idzy posted.

| | Well would you look at that. I didn't type the page breaks but it skip down a line anyway. Thing is, I tried earlier today to fix my trade thread but it still didn't work. I just don't know whats going on. | | Trade References||60 Trades Completed||Louisville Gaming Society||LGS Forums||Trade With Me Steven C Johnson, LGS Administrator All Gamers of Any Sort are Welcomed!

to take a screen shot just push the print screen key on your keyboard then open up paint and paste it in you can then save the pic and upload it as part of your post at the bottom of the editing box. | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums

| Okay that worked. I took a shot of how the text looks in the editor after it's typed and then a shot of the post as it looks after submission. As you can see the page breaks have disappeared.

| There currently isn't a bbcode-style tag for images, so we have to use html (which can be both a blessing and a curse).
Using
<img src="http://www.yourlinkhere.com/yourImage.jpg" />
will make images hosted elsewhere appear as part of the body of a post.
(I'm going to edit your post above, to make the images work)

| If you have the user agent set to pretend to be IE6, then there must be some setting within IE that is preventing the rich-text editor module from loading.
How are your security settings set up? Do you have javascript enabled? What types of controls or scripting (java / active-X controls / plugins) do you have disabled?
Maybe Idzy can help figure what feature or setting is different between your configurations, since the rich-text editor works for him and not for you...
PS: Idzy - Thanks for helping out with this !

This is a screenshot of the user agent Idzy suggested.

This is a shot of how my internet options are set up. Java is enabled and my security is set to medium which is my lowest setting. All my controls like active x are turned on because I use them frequently.

| I'm in the same boat sort of. Windows Update changed me to IE7 and now the spacing doesn't work. Haven't tried any of the fixes.
I also use Firefox, but in Firefox the trade & h/w links don't open right. Not sure if Firefox posts correctly. | | http://noctology.comicgenesis.com

| | I have almost only been using FireFox for maxminis, so I never realized that the design option wasn't available for IE users. I don't know enough about IE to say anything about that. The "Quick reply" allows me to use the enter key, while the main reply button does not.
For example, I have hit the enter key four times so far.
I'll try the quick reply now.

| All righty, so the "Quick Reply" let's me use the enter key, while the main reply function does not.
I submit to you that this makes no sense.
What can be done?

| Posted By Idzy on 11/10/2006 10:00 PM I have found a fix for the IE 7 problem. http://www.fiddlertool.com/useragent.aspxhas registry tweaks that make IE 7 report that it is IE 6 and this makes the post window work correctly. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
This file worked like a charm for me on my IE7 (had to pick the link named IE6, took a while for me to get it right).
And to think that I complied the bloody champions list in html-code this afternoon. :|
