| So, sometimes, especially when there are smileys or punctuation, there are weird characters that end up in people's posts. Mostly, I see these little question marks inside little black diamonds, but I seem to recall some others as well.
I've noticed quite a few in Sirohk's posts, but also some in my own lately.
Am I the only one seeing these things?
Is it my browser? (Usually Firefox.)
For example, one is in the sentence below. When I edit it, there's nothing there. When I check the html code, there's an extra semi-colon before the winking smiley.
From another post:
Saw an ad for this in my local paper and had to check it out.Â

| I notice the same thing, but I always figured it was just one of my addons or something crazy I was running. (I block all images, etc from work).
Do you typically surf with a million addons, or is it more or less vanilla firefox?

I think the post editor module inserts them for any non-standard characters it encounters.
I've added a filter to try to hide them in new posts (by replacing them with a space instead), but I'm not sure if it will work. It should at least eliminate them in quoted material.

I can see one in your post 1/4/P> the 1/4 is in a smaller font. Funny thing, when I quote you I don't see it in the quote. But when I hit submit it jumps back in to the quote. | | You know, I keep thinking that after the new design team gets done with D&D 4e, D&D won't stand for Dungeons and Dragons anymore, because well, that's just not fun. | Squares and other symbols sometimes happens when a font is used ina program/web page and particluarly Word that isnt on the viewing computer. (this is probably not the case for post text gettng mungled here though)
IE, I make a word document using "whizzbang" font. I send it to shadowlord. His computer doesnt have "whizz bang" font installed. His compouter uses the next in the list, which might be "wing dings" causing the text to get wierd characters. | | "Mutton yesterday, mutton today, and blimey, if it don't look like mutton again tomorrer."
