I just wanted to give everyone a head's up that some of the smiley codes are going to be changing in the not-so-distant future. 8) has a tendency to show up in normal usage, and :) + ;) sometimes cause problems with pasted html. We need to make some changes to avoid those conflicts and others. Here's a list of the smileys that are changing: will be changing to [:)] instead of :) will be changing to [;)] instead of ;) will be changing to [:O] instead of :O will be changing to [:(] instead of :( will be changing to [:D] instead of :D will be changing to [:P] instead of :P will be changing to [8)] instead of 8) None of the :emoticon: smileys like :crying: and :unsure: need to be changed, so they'll continue to be the same as before. For the moment, I've updated the filters so that both the old and new versions of these smiley codes should work. Please try to switch over to the new versions, so that you are used to using the new codes when the old ones are removed. The old codes should still work for at least the next week, but they will stop working at some point in the near future.

Thanks for the change. The smiley will be substantially less prominent in the future. Yay!

[[bump]] Just a reminder that the change is coming soon, and the old smiley codes will stop working very soon now...

The old smiley codes have now been removed, so you'll need to use the versions enclosed in brackets to get the changed smileys to show up...
