Plane of Shadow

Can someone tell me why maxminis and hordelings don't merge into one website? I can't remember the reason.
I just think it would be a lot more useful if everyone was on one site like before.

There are too many bad feelings and stuff stemming from the schism that will just never go away. I wish it could've happened, but it didn't and from what I can tell, never will. I saw a post somewhere that summed it all up nicely....I'll see if I can find it and quote it here for ya'.

The year: 1994. From out of space comes a runaway planet, hurtling between the Earth and the Moon, unleashing cosmic destruction! Man's civilization is cast in ruin!
Two thousand years later, Earth is reborn...
A strange new world rises from the old: a world of savagery, super science, and sorcery. But one man bursts his bonds to fight for justice! With his companions Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel, he pits his strength, his courage, and his fabulous Sunsword against the forces of evil.
He is Thundarr, the Barbarian!

For Informational Purposes Only (I'm keeping this as general as possible as to not start the debate here, please honor that intent.)

About a year ago, there were many problems with the maxminis database. Crashes were constant due to the strain of all the posting and the new members. jai had been the "head guru" at the time and was having difficulty contacting webmaster (aka host). Anyway, jai and ktatroe started talking about merging hordelings (which many folks thought had the superior trade system) with maxminis (which had the lion's share of posting and access to the "top player minds" of DDM).

Talk went back and forth, back and forth for some time about the possible merger. webmaster was nowhere to be found. The talk of the merger eventually got the notice and support of a fair section of the community (well, a lot of the post heavy members anyway). About this time, webmaster shows back up, locks out jai (perhaps intentionally, perhaps as part of work that he was doing) and makes a lot trimming of the database.

Things get said, accusations are made. On both sides of the issue. Hordelings gets a lot of updates, Maxminis gets a lot of updates. A lot of folks take personal offense to the things being said at one location or the other, other folks get moderatorships handed to them (in what could like a "bribe" to keep them at a particular site). A lot of posters "choose" one site or the other and make that their home. Some posters bounce between the two and don't take sides (or at least try that until something happens and they decide that one site "fits" better than the other).

That puts us roughly where we are today.

I think that's the basics of it. There are a couple threads on Hordelings about it--just search for "Schism" and you should probably get a good start to finding them.
