My only Nat 20 was a init roll.
His only nat 20 was Yrk vs. Digger ... *after* Digger rolled a 1/2 combo on his 2 attacks [:(].

It's been too many days, so I cannot remember much. I could not make those MC's even with Thea's +9 CR - 3 bariaurs routed, and one did not rally and fled off. Then my Couatl rolled back to back 1's on attack rolls later in the game.
I admit, though, I built a band expecting Graycloaks and got Sharns instead, which put me at a disadvantage, and furthermore I made a few sloppy moves. So, Takasi's win was not simply a dice game, it also had a lot to do with better movement and a well-chosen band.
The most entertaining aspect of the battle was a fresh 65HP Pepro going down from a "20" during an AoO, and later Thea getting the favor returned, still nearly full and eating a "20". | |

Battle Report:
First, I pooched the logfile, hopefully Rgrayua has it still, but he is away for a while so we will have to wait 'til he gets back, I beg leniency from his next opponent in allowing him to use whatever new item he has .. he traded a minor for a medium.. but I can't remember what they were :(.
The match was pretty interesting, my spell resistances and immunities allowed Bertha and her Antmen and Flamin' Dwarves to survive an otherwise devastating barrage of nasty spells from Elvira. As an interesting side note; in reference to a thread in the rules discussion area, Elvira used every single spell at her disposal in this match :).
Bertha was dumb enough to leave her big blonde head sticking out of the entrance to her assembly area, and allowed Elvira to start things off (despite winning initiative), which meant that Elvira got things started by moving far enough to see the aforementioned golden-locked helmet-holder and blast it with an empowered fireball. The Antmen mostly survived okay, and of course the Azers rather liked it, but poor Newguy the man-at-arms didn't fair so well, and Bertha's backup (Buddy and Arty the artificer) got scorched pretty good as well. No one turned tail and ran though, so everything proceeded from there.
The little orcs scattered like matchsticks in front of the ant swarm with Torm's blessing in their hearts, but the bigger orcs were more trouble. The Eye tried to land a Godly Blow on Bertha, a move that would have changed the game drastically, however he was unable to connect. Unfortunately for him, Buddy the pally did not miss his chance, and his Godly Blow struck true (45 damage :)).
The game came down to the two commanders; Elvira hoping desperately to find some magical weak spot on Bertha's body so that she could deliver a one-shot kill, and Bertha desperately trying to keep up to the much faster drow. In the end, Bertha did catch up, and Elvira could not withstand the onslaught.
There was only one 20-roll attack the whole game, and unfortunately Rgrayua had charged the wrong target (Bertha), so instead had to settle for killing the less significant but closer Formian. Obviously a costly mistake.

Summary: The battle started off with Valyssa's terrapin ally uncorking the eversmoking, blanketing the field with fog. The center square of the impending bloodshed consisted of dangerous spikes near a treasure room. Mystique used this to her advantage by sitting near the only opening with Rask by her side. After reaching this chokepoint Mystique unleashed a nasty fireball on Valyssa, the crucian and a few dwarves, eliminating the crucian but otherwise doing little damage. Although Mystique had a special flask that could capture Valyssa's Couatl, the flask could only target the nearest creature. Valyssa's dwarves made sure to protect the flying snake at any cost while it unleashed as many empowered sonic orbs as possible on Mystique. Eberk then managed to fling a spiritual weapon on Mystique. The dwarves waited patiently, with no intention on going near the dangerous spikes. Although Mystique had planned to wait for Valyssa, the spiritual weapon forced her to make a move. She went around the spikes through a mushroom tangle field, but unfortunately she did not survive the journey. The spiritual weapon landed a coup de grace in this killing zone. Without a leader and lost in the fog, Rask and the Frenzied Berserker charged the dwarves. They managed to knock out one of them, but soon both fell to instant kills from the Couatl and one lucky dwarf. The dwarves advanced on the 2 remaining crow shamans, sending one off the battlefield in fear. The Couatl flew in and landed another unbelievably lucky instant kill (the FOURTH for Valyssa). | |

No, No I had two Magic Weapon spells left! [:D] Yep, the game would have gone much differently had the Eye managed to smack Bertha for 50, although a +15 attack versus a 27 AC isn't that bad of a roll, my rolls never seem to go that well. When it became a battle of commanders (with both Champs failing MCs), Elvira could not dish out enough damage to finish off Bertha. I traded the Bracelet of Sonic Resistance (Med.) and the Minor item from that match for another Medium item and got another blasted shield. I'll be home tomorrow night and post +1 Shield of what, I can't remember now. Nothing earth shattering though.
To the best of my recollection (I couldn't find my notes and didn't have a logfile) it's a (Med.) +1 Shield of Blinding []. | |
