| There's talk about new warlord classes and different things to do with promoting Lts, especially in regard to CFX. I've got a basic idea, but it would take some serious work and fleshing out:
Let units PURCHASE CFX (and other things, possibly).
Obviously some CFX are better than others, but by having them all on one list to pick from, we basically just disallow the more powerful ones (except on their original units). By giving them some kind of "cost" (more in a sec), we could let commanders choose what kinds of benefits they want.
Possible "costs" for CFX (and other things):
1. Points - just assign a different point cost. +1 AC costs 3, +2 AC costs 7, +1 attack costs 3, +2 att for goblinoids costs 5, warbandbuilding costs .... etc.
2. Feats - here, we're back to the list, but that WOULD allow more than one CFX, which several existing units already have (expecially if you include warband building - you could also restrict the feat option to warband building CFX).
3. Warlord class - this would be the most work, but possibly the most rewarding. It might also create a "grand unified" warlord class, as well. Basically, give warlords (and Lts) a certain number of "character points" (or something) every level to spend, basically, as they see fit. For a quick and dirty example, give 10 points. HP costs 1 for 5 HP, +1 attack costs 3, feats cost 5, +1 CR costs 5, SPL costs 4 (something like that - that would be fairly close to the existing warlord progression). CFX could be given "character point" (or whatever they are called) costs, as could some kinds of "super feats", such as gaining sneak attack when you don't have it, or gaining Grant Move Action (though that would have to be PRETTY EXPENSIVE, I would say, if it were even allowed) or other special abilities. A warlord could buff HP and attack to the exclusion of everything else, or get lots of feats, or just get lots of CFX to buff troops, or a little of everything (just like now). This would also solve th problem of "what to do with LTs" - the answer would be "whatever you want!" An Lt being groomed for warlord status could purchase certain things, while the warband's champion enemy squisher might concentrate on others.
I like #3 the best, especially if someone else would do all the work... :-) Heh. The balancing of the costs for everything would be the hard part...
OK, now it's your turn to tell me how much this sucks, and why. Just don't forget the "why" part. :-p | | No longer active on MaxMinis

| It doesn't suck per se, but I'm lazy, and I think that sorta change is more fundamental (and a lot more work) then what we really need.
Essentially, we'd be trying to do what wizards does (effectively and fairly costing minis, or at least a small part of the mini), except we wouldn't have nearly the kind of playtest ability that they do.
I think we'd leave ourselves open to all sorts of oopsies given that we don't know what the future is gonna bring.

That last bit might be a problem (but then, it already is - witness the badness that is about come with Wizard Tactician and gaining SPLs...)
But I think the other part (about playtesting) is AS bad, because we'd be dealing with fewer variables. Still a lot of work, though, you're right. | | No longer active on MaxMinis
