The State that invented Spam!

I'm sorry I'm gonna have to argue this point bold commanders are getting free fearless? This pretty much makes fearless items useless then. Can anyone else argue this for either side?

Technically, being a bold commander isn't the same as fearless. If you are stunned or otherwise unable to put someone under command, your bold does not apply. If you're under the effect of an improved countersong, your bold does not apply. In both cases you're allowed to add your commander rating to your MCs, but you're not considered under command for bold to kick in.

If anything, it just makes Improved Countersong items more worthwhile. Fearless items are still VERY useful, just not to the same people. Most evil factions don't have any bold critters, so it just means that if a fearless item comes up at the AH, it's no less useful, just less people bidding on it.

I'm just complaining that's all. There are some really brutal combos out there that hurt.

Tiffany now has Amulet of the banshee (improved countersong), Shield of Greater Presence (aura of fear), and a fear burst melee weapon. That bascially can kill aspects of anything.

From the wardrums rulebook, page 19:
quote:
A creature is under command if it meets one or more of the following conditions:

 • It is within 6 squares of one of the commanders in its warband; or

 • It has line of sight to one of the commanders in its warband; or

 • It is a commander itself.

Additionally, the entry of improved countersong says:
quote:
enemies within 6 squares of this creature cannot be put under command by other creatures.

It does appear that a commander with bold that is routing, stunned, or helpless does need to make a morale save as per normal.

I don't see how fearless items are useful; particularly if you're playing a unit that *doesn't* have bold. You might as well say that +5 damage items are useless because some units deal more damage than others.

Oh, and I'm taking your last post as a complement. The shield is new ;)

How often is a bold unit ever out of command in the EC? In most EC games there are at least two or three commanders on each side. Bold in the EC is practically like fearless and it always has been for all units. Executioner's blade is terrible and bold is great.

I find it kind of funny that Bold commanders are now such an issue. There are a total of three Bold creatures. Justice Archon, Warforged Bodyguard and Wild Elf Raider. Only the first two can become Lts.

Some creatures or abilities become better as Lts., like Bold. Other become worthless, like Battlefield Promotion. That is the way it is. If you don't like it, then rather than just complaining about it, suggest a workable solution. Yes there are combos that can be deadly or game swinging. When we were going over V3 rules we tried to catch as many as we could, but with the 4 or 5 of us that were working on it, we don't have the inventiveness of the 20+ players in the EC every week.

From the sound of it, you are really complaining about a 3 or 4 piece combo that is broken (in your opinion). Perhaps it is, in which case a hard look would need to be taken to see what could be done to correct the broken combo from occuring, but at the same time not to simple change a rule that then breaks something else.

There are a few things that I know of that seem broken, or at least unbalanced, to me. I am not going to rant about them here. I will wait until Galn is ready to start working on V3.1 rules. If I felt strongly enough about something that I felt it should be addressed immediately, I would state the case in this thread that HailSpork is keeping of rules that are needed to be address, just for that purpose.

My rant about the ranting is now done.

Actually, it'd probably be better if I just put a link in from that thread to this one. Keeping debates in their seperate areas helps keep them organized.

dj-c, no prob at all. The only way we're gonna keep improving and cleaning up our rules is discussing them.

As long as we don't get personal! =)

HailSp has linked to it so this won't get overlooked for the mini-update 3.1 (not saying anything willget changed, but it will get looked at =)
