| | 07/29/2007 11:38 AM | Alert | This is my third attempt at running vassel in two years. Every time i try I run into several problems and become frustrated enough to swear it off for several months. This time I've gotten closer to getting it up and going than before.
The problem I have now is when I begin Vassal I get the window with the "Play Module" and other buttons. i press Play Module and/or Load Module and get the browser to find the mods. Though I have downloaded the mods I cannot see them in the Vassal browser. If I type in the name of the file I get the "Xxxxx file cannot be found" window.
Any advice? | | Astinex

| | 07/29/2007 10:03 PM | Alert | Where did you store your mod and what name does it have?
For me, I've created a folder in "My Documents\Vassal" called DDM and placed the mod inside it. Also, I've placed another folder called "DDM_1-13-1_ext" inside DDM. Inside this other folder I have all 3 extension files - "EC EXtension 4_0.zip", "Epic_Maps_1-1.zip", and "Iconics 1_3.zip". When I open up Vassal, I click on the "Play module" button. This opens up a dialog box which points to "My Documents\Vassal". I then double click on the DDM folder and then double click on "DDM_1-13-1.mod". My mod and the extensions open up.

| | 07/30/2007 3:21 PM | Alert | | I followed the instructions on the Vassal website verbatum. I created a Vassal folder and installed Vassal there. I then created a folder within the Vassal folder and named it Modules. I downloaded the modules to this folder and they are named as downloaded, (i.e. DDM_1-13-3.mod). When I press the Play Module button I get the browser and it shows the Vassal folder a well as the Modules folder, but when I open the modules folder it does not see the mods. | | Astinex

| | 07/30/2007 9:40 PM | Alert | Hmm, that doesn't sound right. I believe you, but that doesn't sound right.
After you click on the Play Module button, click the drop down next to the Vassal folder. Is this the location of the mods? (I don't remember if it starts from where the program was installed or somewhere else. My Vassal folder is in My Documents.) If so, can you see any files in the Vassal folder? Just create a text file and try it out. When I get to the Vassal folder, I see a whole bunch of other files. I have games, warbands, and misc other files in there related to creating/maintaining the mod. The default type is all files, so you really should see something in there.

| | 07/31/2007 3:23 PM | Alert | Tullywi,
Thanks for the support. I actually figured it out while trying to trouble shoot the all files suggestion above. I loaded Vassal onto a networked computer and a stange thing occured. when I installed Vassal it actually created two copies. When I ran Vassal and pressed Play Module it opened a browser that was looking in the copy on the network. The mods weren't there because I downloaded them to the copy of Vassal on my computer. When I backed out of the file on the browser I realized I was on the network and not my computer.
Anyway, I have Vassal working now and I'm playing around with it. Won't be long before I begin playing online. Thanks again. | | Astinex
