| I never had the opportunity to play against Richard this time round but my Warband was thus:
Wyvern (too slow and predictable to be really effective) Goliath Barbarian (Reroll is a life saver, this guy rocks) Renegade Warlock (I can't give this guy enough praise) Half-Illithid Lizardfolk (His stun cone worked so crazy well) Deathlock(A little extra range and some morale saves for level 5) Kruthik Hatchling(Tile grabbing exclusively) Carrion tribe barbarian Kobold Champ Cleric of Garl Glittergold (Some close up range and sanctuary came in handy too, not to mention it was nice having a commander on my side) Hill Dwarf Warrior Orc Savage(Wicked 7 point piece, Just smack some fodder when you get the chance and the extra Hp and fearless make him an excellent tie up piece) Gnoll
Round 1
My first match of the day was against a newbie. He had a not bad warband design from what I remember(for a newcomer). I don't recall having much difficulty breaking through his deffences but my 12 activations was draining the clock pretty good. When time was called I remember having several of his pieces routing at the time and had we been able to play just one more round things would have been looking quite grim for him, but alas he was up by less than 10 points on me so congrats for him was in order. I believe his name was Sean.
My next three matches went very smoothly however. After getting used to my warband after the first game the pace quickened and all three of my next matches I emerged victorious. Each match would have ended in the total annihilation of my next three opponents as each time the clock ran out with them having been reduced to the last of their units.
Round 2
This match was against a Frenzied berserker, Ettin, Dark Traveller with fiiler combo. The ettin took a few early hits of range then the frenzied, Ettin and Cark traveller all got stunned in the same round. Some range along with two rounds of burnout and my filler peices took care of the Frenzied berserker. In this same round of stun the Ettin fell to some of my so called Heavy Hitters. From there the rest was smooth sailling.
Round 3
Mummy Lord and Flind Captain plus filler and some range. Knowing that the Mummy lord was fearless I wanted to focus on the Flind first and test his morale. I charged the the Mummy Lord with my Goliath Barbarian and got the damage started then cast sanctuary on him to make the Mummy Lord think twice about moving prematurely. Next I swarmmed the Flind with all my other units and Blasted him with range for an entire round. The Flind either went down right there and then or it was first thing next round(not sure). My Goliath was a pain for him with the sanctuary he tried waiting me out as not to provoke the attack of opportunity but my 12 activations made sure that he wouldn't be able to wait any longer he finally decided he had to try and move and voila, some more damage for him. Once the Mummy fell the rest was a breeze but still once again time ran out with my opponent still having a few filler pieces on the board and a Longtooth routing from Deathlocks fear spell.
Round 4
Cleric of St. Cuthbert/Specter/Dire Bear/Ice Troll/Dwarf with the 23 ac/Longtooth Barbarian/Carrion tribe Barbarian plus filler. The Dire Bear scarred me a little but when I saw how slowly he was moving and due to the assult format forcing my opponent quickly over to my side of the board for tile grabbing points I was able to focus first on his spectre with mostly everything I had of range and then quickly ran in for the kill with my heavies. The Goliath Barbarians reroll really saved me here. He was holding back timidly with his Longtooth so his Carrion tribe barbarian fell next. On to cleric of St. Cuthbert who failed morale Longtooth came out to play and the Ice Troll was closing with Dire Bear still two rounds away. Longtooth got fear cast on him and was routing. I then tied up his guys with my kobold Champion and Hill dwarf will continuing to fire range at them and set up some charges for the next round. Troll goes down so does the dwarf, Dire Bear is getting ready to be swarmmed and time was called there. I win, Dire Bear goes for leisurely walk.
1 loss and 3 victories good enough to make it to the finals but my early loss made me low man on the totem pole, so on to a booster draft I went.
There were only four participants in the boster Draft so only 2 matches to determine the winner were necessary. Yay more boosters for me. I pulled a Blue Dragon and a Specter which I now knew from someone elses mistakes how to use effectively. I also had the Blood Hulk, Death Lock, Orc savage, Scullcrusher Ogre and Spellstiched.
My first match I faced a Boneclaw, Bloodhulk, Ettin, Dire Bear Bully wug, Giant Toad and the scorpion. His combined Hp scarred the bejusus out me. At first he had my Scullcrusher Ogre routing but then he rallied and came back I gave him lots to think about once my Spellstiched finally got up next to his Boneclaw already swarmmed by the rest of my guys. It took him 2 rounds to kill off the spellstiched due to undead fearless. That gave me the time I needed to beat him down. Ettin were never a threat all day I don't think I beat this one down again. They just don't have the ability to hit hard but when they do owey. It was the Ettin that made my Scullcrusher route by the way. My High Ac vs his low attack values was worth a try in my opinion, but he surprised me on hes last +2 attack when he hit for the DD. 40 damage ouch. Anyway long story short, his bullywug acting as commander fell to my specter the scorpion was never a threat and the Dire Bear once swarmmed had no chance either against my remaining creatures full hp dragon included. Oh yeh, breath weapon was used against Boneclaw and Ettin early on.
My final match was against a Zombie Dragon, Flind Captains, Renegade warlock, Voice of Battle, some funny named creature weilding a battle axe and some filler. Breath weapon caught both the Dragon and Warlock causing warlock to route. Flind got the boots laid to him cause I didn't see the Dragon as much of a threat with only 10 damage per round. Forgot about his breath weapon though and he caught my Orc Savage acting as commander off guard by killing him before he could score a hit. Nice move on his part. It didn't matter anymore though, his Flind was dead Dragon Zombie was being taken care of and I sent my specter to deal with his warlock who was now coming back and didn't mind that he was going to be tag teaming warlock and axe dude agaist my specter who was pretty much guaranted to be healing 10 hp every round.
The Prize
They dropped a booster down in front of us before the matches had begun. We all got to give it a good luck shake. Sigh it was a light one. Thanks to my buddy Norm "Hey man this is a light one, that sucks, come on guys you gotta do better than that!" So they bring us one of the heavier ones they could find.
After winning both matches I open my prize, and low and Behooolllder! | | John

| | thanks for the report. I love reading all of these, 2days later. | | They just don't know what's good in life...Conan, tell them what is good in life. To rip the boosters. To count the minis spilled out before you, and to hear the indifference of the women... | |

| Round 2
Round 2 I was paired down to play against Tyler who had lost his first round match. Tyler played:
Orc Sargeant Death Knight Acherai Deathlock Elf Warrior Mongrelfolk Plus some other stuff
This was the first game where I started to realize I was lacking a decent little tile grabber. Not that it mattered really. His mongrelfolk only survived the first round before I zapped it with a lesser sonic orc.
On round 2 I parked my Zombie White Dragon on a tile in the center of the board to absorb the abyssal blast, but he engaged in melee with the acherai and death knight, doing some damage. I took an aoo from the acherai (who of course criticalled for 30) on my chuul. The acherai died reasonably quickly to a rend/failed morale save/ZWD aoo. However the deathknight was kinda annoying, doing 40 damage a round. I sent my kenku sneak and sharn cutthroat around to get at his orc sergeant from behind and managed to chase him off the board iirc.
Starting on round 2 I began getting tile points and he wouldn’t get any for the rest of the match, and that was the difference. His deathknight managed to kill off my ZWD and chuul with like 5 hp left, but I fortunately had another lesser sonic orb to do the last 5 damage.
He ended up being dead and I ended up having a bunch of little weenies left.
Round 3: Michael
My third game was against Michael, who ended up doing fairly well. I don’t like playing Michael. Although we’ve only played once, that once it took my 2 flanking orc champions 3 full rounds to deal with 2 stupid little gold dwarves. Michael was playing something like:
Greenfang Druid Renegade Warlock Wood Woad Kruthik Hatchling Destrachan Bariaur Ranger Spellstitched Hobgoblin zombie Plus some other stuff
I did an absolutely godawful job on tile placement this match, and my ZWD took 40 damage just moving towards the middle of the board. He used the kruthik hatchling to grab tile points and I tried to move my deathlock to a spot where I could hit him with cause fear, but the little insect ran circles around me.
We more or less met up in the middle of the board, slightly on his half. He moved his forces to engage mine, and just had the warlock sitting back hitting me for damage. Due to some poor rolls on my part (a 3 for the chuul’s first attack) and some good rolls on his part (his greenfang didn’t miss the chuul), I ran into problems. My chuul failed morale, then failed three rally attempts to flee the battle. While the chuul was running he had no problems defeating the ZWD and I had been soundly beaten.
It really hurt not having a speedy heavy hitter that I could run around to attack the warlock with, and diverting my mountain orc to deal with the kruthik was a mistake too. He had a good band and played better and deserved the win.
Round 4: Paul
This would be the last round before the cut to the top 4. At 2-1 I had to win to get myself a spot in the top 4, and it wouldn’t be easy against Paul. Paul had:
Kobold Sorcerer Large Blue Dragon Wyvern Skullclan Hunter Mountain Orc Mongrelfolk Choker Kobold Champion
I set my torture chamber up to give me a hidey hole in which to grab tile points, although it would take me a turn or two to get there. I also placed my spike stone cave on my side of the board, so that he couldn’t place his to get sheltered cave setup points. If he wanted to set up on the cave he’d have to expose himself.
He placed his choker on my side to try and grab points, but a sonic bolt from the WFW and an arrow from the kenku sneak were enough to rout him off.
We met in a big pile in the middle of the board with his wyvern/LBD/SKH vs my chuul and zombie dragon meatshield. I was glad that he didn’t move his LBD to try and breath weapon my softer stuff. The dice were with me on this one, and even though we both made our morale saves (his | |
