just my thoughts, cheers!

I don't think its clear at all. Remember, you're not choosing between a Couatl or a 4th monk. You're choosing between a Couatl or a 4th Monk plus 8 points . Those 8 points mean that you can fit things like Aramil, Lantern Bearer, or Standardbearer. You also have the option of upgrading your fodder across the board.

The bottom line is that the Couatl variety will win some matches that the 4 Monk/Aramil variety will lose, and vice versa. I honestly think that this number is pretty close to 50/50. So choose the variety that best fits your play style and expected matchup, and hope for the best.

Edit: 8 points, not 10...duh

Ok, I'm honestly a Marut fan.
And I've already played him and I know the pro's and cons. The biggest problem I had with him was that I didn't put enough hitters with him. And I'm sure lots with just miff at this right away but just give it a thought.

Marut 74
Young Master 44
Githerazai Monk 34
Githerazai Monk 34
Azer Raider 5
Maa x3

Or when Speed 2 goes azer could be timber wolf.

I think the appealing thing here is that Marut could be a very good thing for the warbands that monks might have trouble with...High ac and so on.

Crush your enimies, see them driven before you, and hear the lementations of thier women

If tile initiative is a concern how about

44 YM
102 GM x3
29 Sword of Heironius
10 Standard Bearer
12 Lantern Bearer
3 Man at arms

Gives you 8 activations and a cheap 7 rated commander

Play and have fun, this hobby is an escape from the harsh realities of life

I personally ALWAYS use the couatl with the marut. It protects the marut from auto-damage to which it is so susceptible, and gives it the all important snake's swiftness to compensate for it's single attack.

I also feel that to make the YM and gith monks really worth their costs, you need at least 3 gith monks in the band. Any less and you're not making full use of either the YM's CE and the gith monk's abilities. I've seen people use YM with just 1 gith monk. I mean, is it worth paying 44 points for the YM just to benefit 1 gith monk?

Just my $0.02...

I agree on all points! The answer to your final (rhetorical) question is a resounding no!
