I am putting together a band for an upcoming tourney and was wondering what everyone's take on it is. It will have the newer rules for War Drums with the maps and 8 figure environment.

The warband as it stands now:

Gauth x2
Human Blackguard
Chraal
Duergar Champion
Kobold Miner x3

200 pts.
8 activations

I think it is a pretty decent band but I don't know how would it stand up to Tier 1 warbands. I am especially worried about the Young Master/Gith monk bands.

The Kobold Miners are basically in there for fodder and to bump up my activations. Do you feel it has enough beatdown with just the Chraal and Champion?

Any analysis' and especially suggestions/tips would be very appreciated.

It's interesting. I'm not sure how well dual Gauths work in 200 point environment. I think one is usually enough tech for the average warband. Going up against a Couatl band with two of them makes their autodamage fire ray pretty much worthless is probably the main reason they aren't often considered. As you eluded to you might drop a Gauth for another beater. I'd playtest it and see what you can get out of it. It'll really depend on what you're up against.

I'm not sure how this band will fare. The auto damage fire will be near useless vs LG/Couatl bands and the paralysis will be useless vs mirror matchups DC/HH's and against another gauth band, the Chraal will be hurting. Bottom line, not enough beef and too many bad matchups. Also, I would think with 2 gauths, that the Dark Naga would have to be included. Just my 2 cents.

i disagree. Dual Gauth is good enough for most matchups.. but its not fun to play against. having your guys paralysed standing around sucks. alot.

and 3x miner isnt a good plan. substitute 1-2 with Skirmishers.

There really aren't all that many pieces that can ignore dual Gauths. There just aren't that many LRD bands out there anymore, and though Azers and Efreet can ignore the fire, if a paralysis ray hits, trouble soon follows.

I've seriously considered running a dual Gauth band, but I'm not sure the Human Blackguard is the right choice. He's quite sturdy, and, unless you're getting some really awful luck, you should be able to keep him alive the whole game. But, doing so often means not engaging with him. And, if you do that, you're forcing the Chraal and Duergar Champ to carry the weight of your band--especially on those occasions when you do face a band that can handle fire damage. If you could find a way to turn the Human Blackguard into a commander and another hitter, it might work better.

Maybe the Half-Orc Fighter? He's pretty low on people's lists, and you would definitely want to avoid the Chraal, but you'd have some more points to play with.

There isn't much in the 20-30 range for LE, Bladebearer Hobgoblin maybe. Perhaps a couple of Gravehounds for the stun potential. But I'd rather have a hitter.

Thanks for everyone's input so far.

I had originally debated on using the Dark Naga, but wanted something a little more hp's. But after reading some of the posts, I think I may just try the Naga.

One of the main reasons I threw the Chraal in there was it had good hp's and was a somewhat decent hitter. On top of being able to move well and have the breath weapon. But if I go with the Naga, I don't want to go with the Chraal because I don't the Naga is strong enough to have a Chraal tied to it.

What I am thinking on is this:

Gauth x2
Dark Naga
Duerger Champion
Helmed Horror
Kobold Miner

I am a bit low on the activations and really only have one fodder piece, but I like the Helmed Horror because of its high hp's, it hits 'somewhat' decent and has the plethora of immunities (spells, crits) standard to a construct. As well as being fearless. I think I will test this one out and see how it plays.

Any more suggestions is always appreciated. Thanks again.

I guess the biggest problem are the two very popular bands ATM GAS/Couatl and the Multi Helmed Horror bands. The fire and cold damage is pretty much useless with the couatl and HH can't be paralyzed, and their blindsight will make conceal pointless.
On top of that your lack of speed means that they can commander assassin if they're really deadset on it and then the chraal is lost as well.
The dark naga, I agree will make it a better band against GAS bands and dropping one Gauth for another HH protects you better from multi HH bands.

Just my freshman's opinion.

What exactly is GAS? Is that the Githerzai Monk deathsquad bands? What is the best way to counter those?

And what else do the Multi-Helmed Horror bands have? Again, what are the best way to counter those?

I think dual gauth is very dangerous to use, because against many warbands you will obliterate them, but the couatl and elf pyromancer destroys them absolutly and many people includes these creatures in their warbands.Ono gauth is enough to win.I dislikes very much the human blackguard. He,s expensive and weak exept commander ability and ratio. There are most useful commanders in LE like urthok, mindflayer, snix, kobold sorcerer, grim necromancer, dark naga.....And many others better like the blackguard.
