So work out the efficiency of every figure as a beater (even the dwarf artificier) and if the efficiency for that role is high use it as a beater. Regardless of what you guessed the figure should be used for.
Also work out the efficiency of every unit as a commander, as a ranged attacker etc. Number crunching is what spreadsheets are for.[:)]
While I try to estimate the correct role for every unit, occasionally my spreadsheet will show that a unit I had not considered for a role is superbly cost-effective. At that point I test the unit.

Absolutely; Having a spreadsheet that gives at least a "first-guess" of which units are efficient makes it a lot cheaper to buy such a collection in the first place. While everyone else is trying to collect one of everything, I can concentrate on getting multiples of all the highest efficiency units. trading away all the low-effiecency units to do so.


Don't worry about the current metagame. It doesn't matter if it's ugly, bad, or the best ever. In 2 years time, set rotation will ban everything.
