GAME1 Gunthar.bye
Champion of Eillistraee 48 Longstrider Ranger 34 82 Fire Genasi Dervish 30 112 Fire Genasi Dervish 30 142 Half-Ogre Barbarian 24 166 Half-Ogre Barbarian 24 190 Catfolk 5 195 Catfolk 5 200
The Champion is a durable commander who hits with some authority and is at a commander rating of 4. She also gives a good attack/AC bonus to all those around her.
The Longstrider gives me the important speed 12 and is relatively durable if parked on a tile. He also hits fairly well and does magic damage. He and teh dual-activation genasai give me a speed edge in many matchups.
Fire Genasi Dervish are important pieces. If near my commander, they hits at +11 for 10 magic, have an acceptable AC against other non-tool kit figures and with dual activation can move and get both attacks. He can also move 18 and attack. More importantly, not only can they hit okay, but they give me an activation advantage in most matchups. They also maximize the Half-Ogres and are cheap enough to fill in what I need.
The Half-Ogres are my clean-up hitters. I wanted all magic damage, but didn't have the room I wanted. While they would work well as blockers for spellcasters, their crappy saves are a downfall. With my activation advantage, I can move them in last and use reach, if I have to.
The Catfolk are speed 8 fodder with potshots for fodder control.
While the band doesn't have the ranged component I would like, it does have the speed I need to run around Lawful units and pick my targets or good enough damage vs. chaotics. It also has decent HP. I wanted to fit in a Half-Giant Psychic Warrior as a cleanup hitter or a Githyanki Renegade tech band, but the points didn't work. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
Game 2 Sean-Kahn.bye
53 flind captain 48 4x carrion tribe barbarian 56 Clay Golem 35 Gith fighter 7 Lolth's sting
Clay golem is really tough one, but I didn't want to have two expensive commander -dependent minis. I have positive experience from CT barbarians, especially with the Flind. 12 points for 45 hitpoints, speed 8 and good attack is great! Gith is there for blurring the commader, killing fodder/doing some weakening w. missile and flanking/assassination/general mauling(25dmg). Sting is also nice for 7 points with bonus damage, flanking capabilities and sleep.
Tactics depend on opponent. Golem is likely to advance first, having cover if possible. Gith and Sting can help to set up flanking positions for Barbarians, or for each other and go for commander. Flind will engage opponents that don't pose him too severe threat until golem is in bad condition, other followers are mostly gone or he can go for a kill. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Game 3 doubtofbuddha
Sword of Heironeous 3 Gold Champions Celestial Black Bear 2 Human Commoners
Use the bear and the commoners are screeners. Move up, breathe the hell out of all your enemies and hope you have more hps then they do at this point. Smack till dead. :P
VS
Xaos
This is distinctly not intended to fight warbands with "toolkit" figures. Any fearless beatstik {HH, Marut, FB etc.} would obliterate it;
Balor Lareth the Beautiful (mainly as a spell caster) Troglodyte Barbarian 3xLloth's Sting 2xGnolls ----------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME 4 Taliesin
Uncivilized Conduct Bladesinger Thri-kreen Barbarian x 2 Half-ogre Barbarian Half-orc Barbarian x 2 Jozan, Cleric of Pelor Gnome Recruit
200 pts, 8 activations Very fast, nice attack bonus for the initial engagement (and with speed 10, I will get to decide where I'll fight you), and some good damage output for this format (especially if one of the thri-kreen gets it's paralysis off).
VS
ickthegreat
Ick's Army Drow Cleric Large Deep Dragon Drow Arcane Guard x3 Lolth's Sting x2
Map: Mithral Mines 7 peices, 198 points ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GAME 5 gnolaum
1x Deathknight 1x Aspect of Nerull 1x Half-Orc Fighter 1x Kruthik Hatchling 1x Kobold Warrior 1x Skeletal Archer
7 activation; 200 pts
Map: TBA (one with lots of corridors) Strategy: 1) Grab tile points with the Kruthik 2) Lead with Death Knight 3) Keep Death Knight and Aspect of Nerull together, and in corridors, so that on the most easily approached direction will prompt on AoO from the Death Knight before the Aspect of Nerull can be based. Try and get to a victory point area with them where you can camp. 4) Heal Death Knight with the Inflict Critical Wounds spell as needed
This is strong since it effectively requires your opponent to kill the AoN before the Death Knight, while both are beating on them, and with it being difficult to approach the AoN...
Another idea is to replace the Death Knight, and the fodder with 2 Specters. This effectively trades some damage output, for more HP, alot more healing capability, and more mobility. Hmmm, might switch to this one, if so I'll update this post. I've decided to stay with the Death Knight.
VS
goldmoon
I go for my favourite Stone Giant.
Stone Giant Exorcist of the Silver Flame Loyal Earth Elly Xorn 2xDalelands Militia Celestial Black Bear
Unless I misunderstood Silver Flame commander effect. This band would be able to threath from range with Stone Giant and some lucky shots with Dalelands Militias. LEE and Xorn hopefully can protect this band against chaotic opponents. Even against Lawful side, with flank and commader effect, they would be able to hit more offen. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME 6 aravis
Red and Black
Balor Xendrik Champion x4 Orc Savage Gnoll x2
Stand back and let the Xendrik weaken key peices or take out some fodder to gain the Balor's Red Tide. Once something is weak enough fly the Balor in for the kill. Next round have the Xendrik follow up for 60 pts of damage with skirmish.
VS
md3
Lolth’s Sting Lolth’s Sting Swarm of Spiders Winter Wolf Drow Arcane Guard Drow Arcane Guard Drow Wizard Large Deep Dragon ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GAME 7 kissmykeister
Here's my attempt...I call it. "I luv you, I breath you."
Drow Arcane Guard x 4 Drow Wizard Cultist of Dragon (Are Azers allowed to be summoned?) Half-Fiend Ogre
Drow outpost would be the best map I'm thinking...using the spell range abilities of the Wizard and Fiend to bombard from a distance. The Cultist to summon Azers to hold the line(bridge)while the Guards stand behind to hit(melee reach two) or breath. The Fiend can also fly and give flanking bonus if needed. And both the Wizard and Cultist are able to do a limited number of range 6 damage too. Beware of flyers...
VS
Prince o the raven banner
Hit & Run Flind Captain (53) Xen'Drik Champ.*6 (138) Mad Slasher (9) 200 pts. and 8 act. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME 8 temperance
Skeletal Equiceph Mercenary Sergeant Half-Orc Executioner x2 Xorn x2 Ghostly Consort Mind Flayer
I love the synergy between the Half-Orc Executioner and the Xorn. It's fairly easy to get Xorns into flanking positions, and then the Executioners can be run in for the smackdown.
I'd been using a version of this with Urthok and a gravehound, but I like the synergy that the Executioners have with the Mind Flayer's commander effect. (And a better hitter instead of the Consort; either Chraal or Druegar.) I'm going to have to try the mindflayer out...
VS
Low Key
This one might not win any tournament's, but it is pretty fun to play.
Ghaele Eldarin Large Air Elemental x2 Gnome Recruit x4 Catfolk
Similar to Felagund's warband, this relies heavily on the Eladrin. The Air Elemental's try to get as many Whirlwind attacks as possible, trying to get those 19's and 20's. Gnome Recruit's work as fodder and activation control.

| I know you aren't supposed to vote in your own matches, but I think its pretty obvious that the Balor would beat my build. The gold champions have poor hit points and morale saves, and the Balor won't have alot of trouble hitting them, especially with some troglodyte barbarians in the vicinity.
So Game 3: Xaos Game 4: Taliesin. It will be difficult to deal with all of that beef. Game 5: goldmoon Game 6: aravis Game 7: Prince o the raven banner Game 8: Low Key | | I am not gone.

Game 3: Xaos, the Balor proves to be too much for the Gold Champions
Game 4: Taliesin, CG wins in a close match as the melee damage output overcomes the flames
Game 5: goldmoon, even though the Death Knight could be a monster in this format, the Stone Giant lives through the fight giving LG the edge in a close battle
Game 6: aravis, the Balor never falls in this match and the Xendrik's do most of the dirty work (this could be the band to beat)

| Ok
3--Xaos (Balor flys in kills sword of H. Will probably be hard to prevent. Lareth's spells are pretty good against save 6)
4--Talisen (Kinda tough. TKBs are fast enough that opponent will have to be very defensive with his commander. However, lot's of Area damage will destroy Half-Ogres.)
5--Gnolaum (healing is a nice trick, and both prime beaters are pretty capable alone. However, I would kill the kruthik myself. Incited with two titans is bad.)
6--Aravis (Balor is probably too strong for all the little critters to drop, even with the impressive area damage.)
7--Kissmykiester (tough match. What's with all the drow arcane guards in this thread anyway? Flind doesn't have great synergy with the Xendricks, and area damage should do the trick)
8--Low Key (I like that Ghalae) | | **Note: Unless otherwise stated all my minis are unbagged** My reference thread is at: http://www.maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12765 Graduate school is swollowing my soul!!!! Champion of the Raumathari Battlemage!

Game 2: No voting
Game 3: Xaos Poor match up for Doubtofbuddha. He admitted it as much.
Game 4: Taliesin DCOL is unlikely to survive her encounter with the 2 Thri-kreen Barbarians.
Game 5: Gnolaum With AON, Deathknight will outlast Stone Giant.
Game 6: Aravis I go for the immune-fire Balor than the large deep dragon.
Game 7: Kissmykiester Although I love Xendrik, 2 fire breaths (assuming the other 2 failed SR) would elimintate or force mc on the Xendriks. With conceal 11, Arcane Guard would better the conceal 6 Xendriks during the subsequent melee. Game 8: Low Key The Air Elementals are immune to the stun cone, and with Ghaele, they would take out Mind Flayer easily.

| Game 3: DOB - Balor's immunity to fire is problematic for the Gold Champs but they can dish out enough magic damage to take him down before he takes them down. After that the rest of the band is pretty easy pickings.
Game 4: Taliesin - Just a stronger build with faster stronger beaters. I just can't see the spellcasters not being based and in trouble quickly.
Game 5: Goldmoon - Tough to call match but I see the Death Knight warband losing either on tile points because the Kruthik gets killed fast or it'll be a liability when melee is engaged.
Game 6: Aravis - The Xen'driks will get an advantage poping off filler and before the Deep Dragon does it's thing BW. Which will also be ineffective as Balor and Xen'driks would never be close enough for more than one of them to be coned.
Game 7: Prince o the raven banner - I think the Flind with Xendriks is a strong enough combo to make trouble for the drow. The Half Fiend's disruptive will cause problems early on as well and it'll be routed too quickly. Ghostly Consort could make Ghaele kill herself quite easily.
Game 8: Temperance - Ghaele probably would die to easily against the opposing warband as she's a huge target with low HP for an entire warband to be gunning for her.

3: Doubt of Buddha - After the champs dish out enough damage to rout/kill the balor (most likely one champ will have gone down by then) they can pretty easily kill lareth and the fodder. 4: Taliesin - faster build and can base real easily. 5: gnolaum - death knight is a COOL mini and i like the synergy, also 1's to miss the Stone Giant are nice. 6: aravis - great ranged making them come to you and balor can work on the Large Deep. 7: Prince o the raven banner - xen'driks would pull the win +13 for 20 dmg in melee is crazy as well and against this kind of band it's the SR that counts and conceal. 8: temperance - i love the synergy and the ability to lay down 30 dmg in one attack to a stunned creature is nice.

Noted... Band shall be edited before his first match,In round 2 @Gunther Could you send me new version ASAP, Unfortunatly as the band has already been posted you may only alter it slightly to make it legal. I will allow 1 piece to be either dropped completely or 1 piece exchanged for something to bring it into line cost wise

Drop a Catfolk to a Xeph, then. | 1. - 2. - 3. Xaos. The poor gold champs get a fire immune balor as their first matchup, where's the justice in the world? 4. Ickthegreat. Giving a band with 4 damage cones a huge initiative advantage (disruptive) is not good times for the opponent. 5. Goldmoon. The magic weaponed stone giant is swinging at +20/+15 vs. the death knight due to the Exorcist's commander effect, and burrow on the loyal earth and xorn means that the half-orc fighter is dead meat. Once that happens, they move in on the aspect, and the stone giant should be able to win the fight with the death knight even if the aspect is burning turns healing him, since the stone giant will have a large initiative advantage. The incited kruthik hatchling REALLY REALLY hurts the LE band here, because it can't activate the death knight and aspect together in the opening phase. 6. Aravis. The balor carries this one, being fire immune and able to beat the dragon in a straight-up fight pretty easily. Xen'driks are able to spread out enough to minimize the dragon's breath weapon. 7. Prince o the raven banner. This one could easily go either way due mostly to the vagaries of conceal, but I think KMK's band exposes too many points in the destined-to-be-short-lived half fiend ogre. 8. Low Key. The incited LAEs are, I think, a bad choice as they create a big opportunity for the LE band to go after the ghaele even when it wins initiative, but I don't think this LE band has enough mobility or beef to take advantage. | | Anson on WotC boards

| Game 1 - No vote Game 2 - No Vote Game 3 - Xaos. Balor can absorb a lot of punishment against Gold Champions, and deal it out in spades. The Trog + Lareth's cause fear give a chance at one of the gold champs changing teams too. Just a bad matchup for the Gold champs. Even if they took out the trog/Lareth, they'd be killed by Balor.
Game 4 - Ickthegreat It's a hard choice, the teams seem evenly matched. I think it comes down to the drow having more ranged threat, the dragon can take some punishment (and deal 25 cone in return) before getting out of the way, the three drow arcanes have empowered burning hands, and I've always liked the Deep Dragon/lolth's sting combo. For 7 point fodder, it has a nice power punch, much more than the gnome recruit supplies to the CG. I honestly think this one comes down to the person who plays better on the day.
Game 5 - Gnolum. The Silver Flame does a lot for the Giant, but if Gnolum can protect his commander, the Death Knight and Aspect could be strong. I think the map choice will be an important factor, and that choice comes down to Goldmoon. Still, almost all tiles have a location that you need to protect yourself. Once you managed to destroy the LEE / Giant combo you'd do fine. It's a tough battle though.
Game 6 - md3 The winter wolf is too fast, and will get its cone before the Xendrik (or Balor) can kill it. It will weaken a few key pieces. The Drow Arcane Guards will probably be able to destroy all fodder (activation control is key in this matchup) and release fury when engaged. Balor will do a lot of damage in return, but with so many cones, he will lose all his support pieces. He loses a strong advantage because the Drow also have MR2.
Game 7 - Prince o the raven banner This would be an interesting one to watch, but facing evil doesn't help with the Half Fiend Ogre, and the drow outpost can be hard to navigate with him if you lose side choice. Also the Xendrik opponents will be as strong on the drow outpost as the fliers. The cultist will gain some activation control, but for the assault points they gain, you lose that in points delivered to the skirmishers.
Game 8 - Low Key As much as I like the tech of the LE band, and Executioners are pieces I really want to make work - the Large Air elementals are a really bad match up. Ghaele is hard to kill with the fodder getting in the way. The LAE are able to fly into position, whirlwind at will, the xorn are earthbound, the LAE don't stun and are therefore in command against the executioners. The sneak attack might help once but not enough. All the while, Ghaele is shooting arrows into fodder.
