| Im interested in the dwarf themed band below.. granted i would have to buy everything there it looked like it would still cost less thand 20 bucks so would this band be decent and are there any comparable dwarf pieces to the warforged scout or is it just his speed that makes him so necessary for victory points?
LeClaire's Idea: 43 Battle Plate Marshall 49 Dwarf Ancestor 32 Dwarf Samurai 68 Gold Dwarf Soldier *4 08 WFScout (is sun sol iniate a decent trade off even though its not a dwarf?) thx | | PS. This is what the alphabet would look like if Q and R were removed

| Here's my critique (though it would be better if I knew what you have to work with):
1. The aspect of moradin is already the heart of your band and any opponent is going to be throwing everything he has at him. So, tying the loyal earth elemental to moradin is a bit risky.
In addition, I'm not convinced that the earth elemental is a good match with the aspect. He's durable but only manages a barely acceptable +13 to morale with the aspect. And, while he does decent damage (and the VP solves his non-magic damage), he has trouble hitting flying creatures. Speed 4 and a large base mean that even burrow doesn't give him a lot of manueverability. Finally, and perhaps most significantly, since Moradin is a large base and works best in tight corridors (Moradin has stone lord individually as well as as a Cfx), it will be hard to use him optimally at the same time as the LEE.
Good possible substitutes: a. Justice Archon--the bane of blood ghost beserkers, frenzied beserkers, wemic barbarians, orc champs, ogre ravagers, and hill giant barbarians. b. Warforged bodyguard. The damage is a bit low, but with the Village Priest, his attack bonuses are almost as good as Moradin's and he can keep Moradin alive.
2. Eberk and the dwarf artificer. I don't think that either of them are a really good use of points. Together, they'll boost moradin's AC to 26, but together they also cost 37 points. If you want to spend points to keep Moradin alive, I think a combat medic is a much more efficient way to do that. Alternately, you could say that the healing from the village priest is enough and go for more offensively focused units.
3. The village priest is a solid secondary commander and has great synergy with a lot of LG units. He's a very good choice... as long as you have a few guards to take advantage of his abilities.
4. Caravan guards are a good deal for 5 points, but they aren't able to really bring the beat down. In fact, they don't offer nearly the improvement over hill dwarf warriors that hill dwarves offer over men at arms. With the points you saved in other areas, I'd switch up here. 2 arcanix guards and two hill dwarf warriors would be an improvement. (2 arcanix guards, a city guard and a timber wolf would be even better if you've got them).
So that would leave you with either: Aspect of Moradin Combat Medic Village Priest Warforged Bodyguard 2x Arcanix Guards 2x Hill Dwarf Warriors
or Aspect of Moradin Village Priest 2x warforged bodyguards Warfoged Scout 2x Caravan Guards Hill Dwarf Warrior

| oh well got nothing good in the starter but i was just wondering what a good all dwarf band would be using
Aspect of M. 93 Warpriest of M. 49....142 together leaving 58 points for what dwarves (semi-competitive)
And if you feel that the warpriest is too much then i guess you could take him out | | PS. This is what the alphabet would look like if Q and R were removed

| If I were going to go all dwarf with the aspect of Moradin, I'd take him as my sole commander. The other dwarven commanders don't offer enough synergy with the aspect to be worth it and the ones worth playing (battleplate marshal, warpriest of moradin, dwarven defender) cost too much to have room for anything else in the band.
As for decent dwarven pieces to go with the aspect, you've got a couple choices for hitters:
Dwarf Samurai 32 pts Gold Dwarf Fighter 29 pts Anvil of Thunder 25 pts
For light hitters/high end fodder, you have: Gold Dwarf soldier 17 pts Dwarf Axefighter 12 pts Dwarf Phalanx soldier 12 pts
For fodder, you have: Dwarf Mercenary 9pts Hill dwarf warrior 4 pts Tordek, dwarf fighter 5 pts
For tech and miscellaneous uses you have: Cleric of Moradin 13 pts Eberk 16 pts Dwarf Artificer 21 pts Dwarf Raider 21 pts Dwarf Wizard 21 pts
Of those pieces, I think the dwarf samurai is the only good high end choice. He's got a good attack bonus, a great save, can take over commander duties if Moradin kicks the bucket, and will do pretty good damage if stonelord kicks in. The anvil of thunder and gold dwarf fighter both suffer from <65 hp, moderate AC and low attack bonuses for only ten damage. (Which is decent if stonelord kicks in, but the dwarf samurai has a pair of smites to make it decent without stonelord and good if he gets stonelord too).
In the mid range, the gold dwarf soldier and the dwarf phalanx soldier both have potential. 20 damage and Cleave on the gold dwarf soldier benefiting from Stonelord could be very nice. Unfortunately, his +8 attack is somewhat low and the dwarf band doesn't really have a way to improve it.
If moradin's attack bonus were higher, a pair of phalanx soldiers to sit in front of him, do ok damage thanks to stonelord, and provide cover would be good. Unfortunately, +15 can't afford to attack over cover. So, I don't think that will work.
In the fodder category, I think the hill dwarf warrior is the only choice--dwarf mercenaries just don't have the attack bonus or hit points to justify their cost.
In the tech category, the cleric of moradin can push moradin's AC up to 25 and benefit another hitter too. Eberk gives less defense for the cost but comes with magic weapon and a pair of cure light wounds as well as divine protection. He's a lot better when he's not competing against non-dwarves for his 16 pts.
The dwarf raider and artificer seem like wasted points. Slow attack and not having anything to do (except against constructs) after gmw and legion's shield of faith make them poor choices. The dwarf wizard, however, might have some legs since you're doing pretty good damage and Moradin as well as the Gold Dwarves have cleave.
At that point, it depends what you've got.
My choice would be: Moradin 93 2x dwarf Sam 64 2x Gold Dwarf Soldier 34 2x Hill dwarf warrior 8
7 activations, 199 pts
However, since I don't have dwarf samurai, I'd probably do this instead: moradin 93 4x gold dwarf soldier 68 Dwarf Wizard Dwarf Axefighter Hill Dwarf Warrior
8 activations, 198 pts.

| I would suggest. Aspect of Moradin, 6 Gold Dwarf Soldier, Hill Dwarf. All dwarf and good times against opponents next to walls. I actually won with this warband against someone I was 1 win vs. 8 losses in casual play. 2-8 now!

Although a bit pricey here, I wouldn't discount the Dwarf Ancestor (49) entirely. So for an off-the-cuff example: 93 Aspect of Moradin 49 Dwarf Ancestor 34 Gold Dwarf Soldier *2 12 Dwarf Axe Fighter 12 Hill Dwarf Warrior *3
I also hate the though of having a whole dwarf band and not using the BPM's G(D)MA. Too bad he just doesn't fit. [:(]
While do-able as a theme band, an all dwarf band is likely to lose. They're just too slow. They're just too vulnerable to AoE's. They won't score victory points quick enough, and unless their foe is obliging enough to walk right under their hammers, won't kill enough quickly enough to pull out the win. Maybe if you get onto the broken demongate map and plug the gap with the AoM you'll do OK, as long as you keep the foe from slipping into any victory areas on your side. But with the AoM's CR 4, it's not the sort of thing that you can stake a tourney on.
IMHO the Aspect of Moradin is just too much of your warband in 200 point and sufferes the usual problems of titan builds. Look at what happens to the above band when you use the BPM instead of the AoM (and allow a single oddball to come in): 43 Battle Plate Marshall 49 Dwarf Ancestor 32 Dwarf Samurai 68 Gold Dwarf Soldier *4 08 WFScout
Put the WFScout somewhere safe until the 'cavalry' from Kilvary manages to lumber into scoring position. Save the G(D)MA from the BPM until the engagement round so that you can set up reasonable charges and/or cleaves. With a CR7 you'll often be the one dictating terms. Due to the Ancestor your BPM can remain safely behind the lines or guarding your victory area for quite some time. Plus you can afford to spread out if faced with AoE's and still get your CFX damage bonus.
Just a though. [:D] | |

| | LG just needs some more dwarves that arent commanders. They need mid-cost beaters, like 30-45 pts. It would also help a lot of they didnt have speed 4, since that makes a lot of units actually not viable. The dwarf samurai is a pretty good unit, but not exactly badass. Aspect of Moradin just takes up so many pts. Adding in a bunch of Gold Dwarf Soldiers gives you some damage, but their to hit is pretty dang low. | 6 gold dwarf warriors might be good times lol...ok ok...AoM is high cost but is there any simple all dwarf band i could run iwht that dude that has the Dwarf Movement affect (didnt really see him)... the only thing is i would like to keep it all dwarf but maybe that one 8 point guy for tile stealing
**Just looked at LeClaire's band idea with BPM and just might have to try that...just hope the pieces dont cost to much cause all i have of that is one gold dwarf :( heh
PS is Sun Sol Iniate a DECENT trade off for warforged scout until i get one? | | PS. This is what the alphabet would look like if Q and R were removed

| I think the Battle Plate Marshall + Dragon Shrine map would be a good combo. If you take side B you can go after the victory area right near the exit squares, then you're just taking a gamble. With their good saves and uber commander rating, your betting on your guys never failing a morale check and hoping your opponent fails his. I might try and include either a PDK or bronze wyrmling, but again, it'd be a bit of a gamble.
It's too much gamble for me to use in a qualifier setting, but I think it could be fun. | | Champion of the Minotaur Knight Herald of the Epic Snig | |
