| It would take a LOT of piloting and practice, but this warband could be effective in the hands of a good player. Calling it at *fun* for now, but the point denial it can offer is potent.
48 Half Orc Paladin 32 Warforged Bodyguard 32 Warforged Bodyguard 32 Warforged Bodyguard 28 Combat Medic 21 Village Priest 05 Timber Wolf ---- 198, 7
Village Priest stats: 21 pts Commander 3 Commander Effect: Followers **whose names contain Guard** or Militia get attack +4 and Save +4 Spells: 1st-bless [] (your warband; attack +1), magic weapon [] (touch; attack +1, ignore DR); 2nd-cure moderate wounds [][] (touch; heal 10 hp)
In other words, the priest and Half Orc Paladin buff your warforged bodyguards to +15/+10 for 10 magic (+5 vs level 7 and higher) with level 10 for saves. All the Warforged are fearless (while under command, which they will be thx to the Half Orc), they take 5 less damage from melee and ranged attacks, and they can channel damage to the unit that has the most HP remaining (or the one closest to healing). The Half Orc can go on the attack (after magic weapon, he would have the same stats as the Warforged with reduced damage output. The combat medic can maximize her special healing abilities thanks to the Warforged channeling the damage around between each other (having all of them damaged at the same time, all receiving that 10 health benefit).
Weak vs Energy weapons, but bringing in a Couatl lowers the offensive output too much. Low ACs also mean that they'll be taking more hits than they land in many cases. Still, this band is likely to be an uphill fight for most opposition. Duergar Champions are considered viable, and this team would beat a team of them consistently (since they can only do 10 damage/hit to a bodyguard).
Also a bit of a struggle vs HGB... you'd take 35-40 points of damage, and dual HGBs could level at least one of your bodyguards in a full round attack action. You'd need to pilot your band to base them and get the first strikes in before they engage you... and that's easier said than done.
Anyhow, its a cheap warband... all the pieces are current and readily available. Give it a shot, you might surprise yourself with it. It *could* do well at a tournament, but it would need the right player piloting it to do so. | | Thanks for the memories. :)

| Alright, here's my $3.00 band:
1x Drow Cleric of Lolth 1x Cleric of Gruumsh 1x Hill Giant 2x Umber Hulk 1x Ogre 1x Lizardfolk 1x Gnoll (Harbinger)
Oh wait, that's a 300.00 dollar band (276 actually...) heh. I wonder what the most expensive non-epic semi competitive band you can put together is? Gives you an appreciation for the value of the game, eh?

| Orc Wardrummer ($6) Umber Hulk x 6 ($125 x 6)
Total in approximate retail prices: $756
Not the most competitive warband in today's meta, but certainly at least a solid spoiler. | | Member of the Low Post Count but High Post Content Society

I received a suggestion to swap one bodyguard for an LEE... could also do a Gith Monk. I don't see a whole lot of gain from the bearer at this point. I wanted a Warforged scout, but the points are too tight. Healer isn't as efficient as I need her to be. Ultimately, its hard to make a mod to this band that offers significant improvements. Some conditional gains, but most of what it has at the moment is most of what it could need. | | Thanks for the memories. :)

We once did a "No rares allowed" game before WD. LG faired pretty well, and I ran a Half-Orc Paladin + Loyal Earth Elemental x3 warband. Worked suprisingly well in that format. | | Champion of the Sarrukh

Try an Urthok / Goblin band in this format, especially now w/ the Blood Ghost Beserkers. I'm sure that'd bring the beat, while stayin cheap! [B)] | | Champion of all things Athasian "Don't sing it - Bring it!"

| Played the $3 Wonder last night for the first time against
Death Knight Gauth Urthok the Vicious Flameskull 2x Skeletal Dwarf Dwarven Mercenary
7 activations versus 7 activations.
I was worried about the Abyssal Blast and Fireball - and my opponent managed to get 4 in the fireball, 3 in the blast - but I managed to escape relatively unharmed after popping my Sacred Healings and Lay on Hands. To be honest, though, if I had failed my save with the Village Priest on the Abyssal Blast, this might have been a different fight!
Still, the $3 Wonder lived up to its name, trouncing the opposing warband with the loss of ONLY the Timber Wolf (he was sacrificed to slow down the Dwarven Mercenary one turn). It was VERY impressive how well everything worked together, even against a band with only one level 7+. | | Champion of the Cleric with Raise Dead
