I just ordered on of these. Which commander best suits him? I was thinking Urthok or even Inspired Lt. He seems a solid piece.

Very strong against undead (infinite chill touch)
And HH warbands without magic weapon.
But a bit over-costed against other figures.
Against weak filler units, you might use the chill touch for 5 damage instead of wasteing the 1-use tohit+20.

If your playing an LE-quad/quin warband it may be worth using 1 or 2 Zakya but not more than that.

Don't worry about the current metagame. It doesn't matter if it's ugly, bad, or the best ever. In 2 years time, set rotation will ban everything.

The Zakya is a very solid LE hitter with abilities that set it apart from the Duergar Champion -- for 3 points more, you lose Conceal 6 and go from +15/+10 to +14/+9, but gain +2 AC, +1 Speed, Blind-Fight, DR 5, Spell Resistance, unlimited Chill Touch and the True Strike on its first Melee attack.

The Zakya's biggest weakness, however, is that it's Level 7, meaning it will rout more often than the Level 10 Duergar. Given that, Urthok's Commander 5 rating is better than the Inspired Lieutenant's CR 4. On the other hand, the Inspired brings offensive punch to the band, making Urthok look weak and outdated (unless you use him to fill your band with Blood Ghost Berserkers). Another option is the Human Blackguard (Commander 6 + Tyrannical Morale) -- but if you're having trouble squeezing in the 45-point Lieutenant, it's even worse with the 46-point Blackguard.

Best advice is to throw together some LE warbands and see what you're comfortable with.

It's +2 Speed (Duergar has 6, Zakya has 8). I wanted to point it out because I think it's one of the biggest reasons why you might take it. The True Strike is nice, but is only one time. Being able to move 8 squares AND true strike, or move 8 squares and hit a fodder peice (I love killing Orc Savages with this guy) with chill touch is really strong.

But like Helzapoppn said, it's the lower level + the speed again which is its biggest weakness. You wouldn't think it, but from experience that +7 instead of +10 is a HUGE difference. I loved this guys when they first came out, but now I don't use them. They seem to fail their saves ALL the time! And a failed morale save means they're usually routing off the board. It is a lot of points but I probably would try to go with the Blackguard. If they fail the morale they are likely gone so it's not much of a reason to NOT use Tyrannical Morale.

Yeah, I am unlikely to run one unless I am also running the Human Blackguard. Luckily, if I am running LE there is a 75% chance I am running said Blackguard, so there is a pretty reasonable chance I will get some use out of them.

I am not gone.

I think the Zakya is a good support to DC or HH bands, because it brings the DR both lacks and a nice spell.

I think the zakya is an overcosted unit, but not bad at least and nice indeed.Infinite chill touch makes him fearsome against undead (but....are there undead warbands?).I think his best commander is the half orc fighter and another commander.

HHhhmmm...

Sacred Watcher - Undead
Cursed Spirit - Undead

so that's only 2 undead, but it's better to be prepared for it.

I like the obvious: use a Rakshasa with a Zakya. You can still fit in 4 beaters (Zakya, Chraal, Doogie Champ, and HH), plus the spells and CFX make the Rak a decent commander/tech support.
