Not sure if this one has been mentioned before but with the new rule changes this guy becomes very interesting.Teamed with a cursed spirit opponents are doing dc 19 saves for paralysis, so long as they are effected by stench. As undead the difficult 5 now means nothing really unless you run into some turn undead spells.
Have played a couple of games with him now and he has performed reasonable well. He is a real threat that your opponent has to be concerned with unless of course immune paralysis!
Just some thoughts anyway as to what others think

Ghast 25pts

LVL: 4 SPD: 6
AC: 17 HP: 30

MELEE ATTACK: +7 (10 + Paralysis)
RANGED ATTACK: --
TYPE: Undead

SPECIAL ABILITIES: Difficult 5; Paralysis ( DC 15); Stench (Adjacent living creatures gain attack -2, save -2, and -2 AC)

I like the piece, I just wish he cost a little less. I mean, CE has so many low-cost pieces that it makes him a little hard to choose over pieces that can kick out more damage.

But, as you seem to be suggesting with your post, he makes a very interesting tech option.

It is certainly an interesting piece to keep in mind for when the metagame shifts a bit farther away from all the paralysis immune pieces that are out there now.

Yeah I think he's kind of expensive for what he gives you too. The stench factor and paralyze is nice but his low attack bonus makes it only useful against chaotic warbands. I could probably find more effective uses of that 25 points.

Exactly what i am suggesting an opponent who fails paralysis would be a very nice target considering the heavy hitters usually found in CE( Champ HGB etc)

At the very least he is a 30hp fearless blocker.Who lowers your opponents AC, Attack bonus and save by 2.Add the cursed spirit and a wardrummer and your opponent can be doing morales at minus 8 could be very helpful . Also I agree there is a lot of immune paralysis gear around at the moment so He may be one to watch for later on. If paired with a cursed spirit, which you use for a flank, His to hit bonus goes up by 4 due to flank and stench which isnt to shabby. Just something to think about I guess.

30Hp blocker isnt much. He is basically a 15 pt figure in a 25pt frame.

Im out- find me on Hordelings if you want to chat.

Well,I never have play it but I have to say that in my opinion its an absolutely useless piece because its cost is very high and it can be killed in one blow (and 17 AC makes that very easy to do). Paralisis?Hum...too much inmune creatures out there. But cool looking mini after all.

The G Spot

You guys might find this interesting. I lifted this quote from the April 1st NE Open Tournament report.

One player actually played a band with a ghast. Here is his thoughts on the performance.

I was playing on the teleport temple mat. As always, the tournment was well run, and I had a lot of fun.

Here's my micro report: The night before I was still trying to decide on a band, and was searching for some non-obvious secret tech. I noticed the ghast. While the difficult 5, the wardrums rules might his speed would be unaffected, and I didn't need him under command because he's fearless. Unlimited paralysis attacks and stench sounded pretty great. Of course he had only 30 hitpoints, but I feel any time my opponents spends killing my ghast is time the rest of my band is beating his. Of course, I was doomed if I faced quad horrors, but I was pretty sure that passe. Would the ghast work out though?

Well the answer was not really. He wasn't awful but didn't really pull his worth. I only got about 2-3 attacks with him a game, and he has to hit, and they have to fail their save (unfortunately wardrummer doesn't provide -4 to all saves). I only got one paralysis off the whole tournament (though I only had 4 games), and that was on a green dragon (the rest of the band was duergar champs, so no luck for me there). Though he could have won me my first game, when a HGB (within melee reach of my ravager) made his save. Oh, if only he had failed. 120 damage would have been so nice. Oh well.

And actually, he didn't even get that paralysis on the Green Dragon because dragons are immune to paralysis.

The entire report can be found here.
