| My favorite would be
Eye Orc champ x2 orc druid x2 orc brute x3
8 acts 200 even
Its simple straight forward beater band. That and I love orcs and like theme bands alot. If I had another I would swap in another Orc champ for the druid and down grade the brutes to warriors. | | Asystole is a stable heart rhythm

| That is a great band. I almost wish one would win one of these qualifiers (and I think it could if people would play it) just for old time's sake. :)

| I enjoy
Archmage HO Barb Graycloak x3 Wolf Minions x3 Xeph
This band takes some much skill to play and i ran it two times so far (both against HH bands [:(] ) but it REALLY enjoy having to think every move out because, as i learned in the first game, even the move of one fodder piece can open up a cone routing your commander and damagin your archmage [:)]

| I've been liking this one:
Helmed Horror x4 Dark Moon Monk Timber Wolf
It seems crazy, with so few activations, but it's been effective in playtesting.
I like it because I can almost always get at least three magic weapons off before the Dark Moon Monk bites it (and sometimes all four), and because the Wolf is usually sturdy enough to get first round assault points. After that, I can often find a way to get points from my other pieces.
Even after the Monk and Wolf die, I've still tied up 180 points that my opponent can only get by killing Helmed Horrors, and they're remarkably tough.

| Neither of my two favorites are actually tournament-worthy:
Tiefling Captain (21) 21 Orc Wardrummer (19) 40 Umber Hulk x2 (60) 100 Ogre Ravager (38) 138 Mounted Drow Patrol (54) 192 Hyena x2 (8) 200
Broken Demongate or Dragon Shrine.
Hyenas for early tile-grabbing. The Umber Hulks and Ravager tie up hitters, while the MDPs zip overhead, striking from flanking positions and then retreating, or from and back to victory areas.
Second favorite:
Greenfang Druid (50) 50 Dire Bear x2 (88) 138 Celestial Pegasus (32) 170 Graycloak Ranger x2 (30) 200 Timber Wolf x2 (0) 200
I used to play this on Queen Peregrin's Tomb, but I think it'd be fun to try on the Teleport Temple.
Common wisdom says that two Dire Bears makes a bad band, but I have about a 70 percent winning record with this band, against League-competitive competition. The Pegasus is a utility piece par excellence ... roaming to assassinate, or flank, or hold off Chraals. The Bears are massive and tough ... their weak point is morale saves. If you do some quick math, it's worth throwing greater vigor on one or both, either to delay the morale check or to enable one more round of survival. (Against HGBs, for instance, a single round of vigor will let a Bear survive one additional hit.) Graycloak Rangers love fighting giants, and help round out to 8 activations. | | Jeff "Wayne Laredo" Wilder | Email | Have/Want List | Trade Policies | Are You an Ethical Trader?

| OK, so I had to come up with a squad for a tournament recently with the stipulation that you could only use pieces worth between 40-75 points and this is what I came up with:
Half-Orc Paladin Cleric of Dol Arrah Iron Golem Slayer of Domiel
Going into the tourney I'm thinking I'm going to get slammed, because I have a good idea what my opponents are going to play, but as it turned out I won the tournament pretty easily. This beat a Greenfang Druid with Dire Bears squad, a Death Slaad with Blue Slaads squad, and a Aspect of Kord, Dwarf Ancestor, Battle Plate Marshal, Couatl (I think) squad (twice).
All I can say is, when you see your opponent brings a Slayer to a tourney: KILL IT, KILL IT, KILL IT!!! | | "I am created Shiva, the Destroyer; Death, the Shatterer of Worlds." - the Bhagavad-gita

| I agree with posts above that "favorite" bands are often not Tournament worthy, though I got pretty far in the first California Open with my favorite LG band. I currently favor the following version:
CoDA Couatl 2x JA Rikka WF Scout 2x Azer Raider
This warband is just a blast to play and can hold it's own in a Tier 1 environment!
I'm also a HUGE fan of the following warband, perhaps my "favorite":
GFD 3x Dragonne 3x Hunting Cougar Graycloak Ranger Timber Wolf (Minion)
9 Activations gives you nice activation control, the Wolf is your Tile Grabber, a role that HCs can later fill and with the GFD behind them the HCs are 8-space movin, 40HP havin, +8 Attack for 10 Magic Damage dealin minis for only 9 points! And then there are the Dragonnes! +13/+8, 20 Magic damage, 75 HP, Blind-Fight, Pounce, Flight 7, AC 18 for a mid-30s point figure?! It's just a fun band and I've beaten Shuluth and Slaads w/ it! | | Champion of all things Athasian "Don't sing it - Bring it!"

| I like this updated version of an old favorite:
Tiefling Captain Orc Champ x4 Orc Wardummer Hyena 7 activations, 200 points
It plays pretty straightforward. Hit 'em hard, hit 'em fast. The Hyena grabs victory points, the Champs smash 'em up, the Wardrummer provides Intimidation or Resistance, depending on need and opponent.
The slightly more varied (and balanced) approach is:
Tiefling Captain Red Samurai Orc Champ x2 Ogre Ravager Orc Wardummer Hyena 7 activations, 200 points
I've serioused considered one of these for the QT.

| Two bands I've been toying with lately are:
Mighty Duergar Chumps Half-Orc Fighter 5x Duergar Champ Barbarian Mercenary Timber Wolf 8 activations/200 points
5 beaters + 1 sturdy VP grabber/1 hard-hitting fodder-killer is very versatile. I favor the Dragonshrine with this band.
Tri-Horror Variant 3x Helmed Horror 2x Large Duergar Dark Moon Monk Snig + Sniglets 10 activations/200 points
Snig+sniglets work as activation control/ranged threats. DMM gives the horrors MW then runs of to VP grab. The Large Duergar work as choke-point cloggers/screeners and are decent beaters for the price. Even if Snig goes down the three key units are fearless.

| A funny warband I wouldnt mind trying is:
Dark Naga 6xDestrachan Kobold Miner ------------- 200p/8a
18 Sonic 15 damage cones for DC 17 - even if the oppents make all thier saves - if all the cones go off that 30 damage per round! And 6 cones that give -4 ac - everything is bound to lose some AC ;)

| Wow, that's a tough one...so I'm going to have to pick two.
My favorite competitive band would be "War Dwarves":
Rakshasha War Troll Duergar Champion x2 Large Duergar Kobold Miner Warrior Skeleton x2 Map: Drow Outpost
Has potential for bad match-ups, but a it's a lot of fun to splatter things with a War Troll. ;) This band actually holds up reasonably well in the current meta game (so long as I can keep the silly Rakshasha safe...)
My favorite non-competitive band is a bit more fragile but still a lot of fun to play: "D&D (Dragon & Drow)":
Drow Sergeant Large Deep Dragon Draegloth Mounted Drow Patrol Drow Arcane Guard Orc Warrior x3 Map: Hellspike
This band falls apart when it comes to Morale Saves, but having the Draegloth, MDP and Arcane Guard striking at +3 makes them fairly ferocious if you play the band aggressively enough. | | Daezarkian Demonic Accountant

| My fav. 200 pt. team is a LG one. 1 Arcane Ballista 1 Couatl 1 Cleric of Dol Arra 1 Justicator(Non Epic) 1 Gold Dwarf Soldier
I've used this team to good advantage, because people get fooled by the Justicator, and try to take him down before he can do major damage. By the time they realize the Ballista is what they have to fear, it is too late.
Plenty of resistances from the elements, outsiders and large size creatures are devastated by various attacks. Plus the snakes swiftness used on the Ballista makes it that much more devastating. As an added bonus, the Gold Dwarf is fearless under the Cleric. Its only downfall is the slowness of the Ballista, and you should always keep the Couatl right next to it. But its rare for someone to be able to get to the Ballista, as long as you can heal the Justicator from time to time with the Cleric. The team is a bit low on activations, but you will usually make most moral saves and usually win initiative thanks to the Cleric, so it balences out.
What do you think? | | | |

| It's probably not competitive, but I have really enjoyed playing this one lately:
Moon Elf Fighter Longstrider Ranger x3 Xen'drik Champion Steelheart Archer Devis, Half-Elf Bard Timber Wolf 8 Activations, 200 points Teleport Temple
This warband is highly mobile and can really capitolize on your opponent's mistakes by use of tactics. Winning initiative is very important for this warband, so switching out the Steelheart Archer for a Satyr might pay off.
It lacks straight-up beatdown power but makes up for it to some extent with the ability to focus a lot of power on one point at one time with use of tactics. | | Champion of the Revenant Knight of the Elf Duskblade Complete Trades: Oni, Kidkach, Melrune, callidusx3

| I'd say my absolute favorite band isn't tournament viable, but it is fun. I like Inspiring Herd. The idea is simple:
1x Inspiring Marshal 5x Celestial Pegasus 1x Devis 1x Timber Wolf.
Any large, open map will do. Something where I can swarm-beat targets. Falls apart against CE Quad, Doogie Chump hordes, etc...but it's an incredibly fun band to play, because people just stare at what you've just put on the table. | My favorite warband isn't really original, nor is it really competitive, but you gotta admit seeing Drizzt in the field is kinda exciting. (for me anyway) The skirmish feels like an RPG session instead. ^_^ (Almost completely removing the pressure)
Drizzt, Drow Ranger 87pts Guenhwyvar 33pts Rikka, Angelic Avenger 31pts Krusk, Half-Orc Barbarian 16pts Aramil, Adventurer 13pts Lidda, Adventurer 9pts Devis, Half-Elf Bard 6pts Ialdabode, Human Psion 5pts
8/200
Any map will do since there is a lot of variance in this warband. It's got ranged attacks, magic support, countersong, and three main beaters with the possibility of two more support beaters. Its a warband capable of changing tactics on the fly, but of course Drizzt has to stay alive for the warband to achieve maximum effect. The thing here is the warband needs to stick together and not be separated, that's when it performs the best. | | "I never threaten, I merely promise." -Elminster of Shadowdale

| I'm overly fond of; Sine Yo Pity onda Runny Sine 2x Red Samurais 4x Xen'Driks Tiefling Blademaster
It's silly how well this works. On Dungeon of Blood I can see everything pretty much after a partial move. So I snipe at range then move to cone all I survey. The rest is just a brawl. The name is not my own.
also; You Brought Dwarves? Battle Plate Marshall Dwarf Ancestor Gold Dwarf Fighter 2x Gold Dwarf Soldier Dwarf Artificer Eberk Warforged Scout
It'll never win a tourny, but I've pulled out more 'luck' wins with this than any other band.
And just to serve my Ebon mistresses Valenar Commander 7x Xen'Driks
It gets crushed 1/2 the time. I also suffer if all my minis looka like. BUt hey they can shoot anybody. And getting a morale save on a beater on the first round causes cursing. Nobody lets me do that more than once though.

I like the mobility and versatility of Xen'driks. In a group, they have enough ranged damage potential to force your opponent to come to you. Then when the battle gets close, they can potentially dish out even more damage in melee.
They are a great hit and run style mini with reliable attack bonuses and good saves and AC. In my opinion, they are the epitome of CG. Strangely enough, they pull this off while not being exclusively CG.
