Which mini do you really want to build a tourney class warband out of, only to find that:
1) The synergy just isn't there.
2) You get torn up by the Tier 3 opposition.
3) If only it had x, y or z, then it would rock.

Open slather for responses, just kinda interested in what minis people think 'coulda been the next contender'.

For me it is the Scorpion Clan Drow Fighter. The warband concept is really cool - range 6 skirmish warfare, throw in a bit of ranged sneak attack and hide and you can hit hard then fade away...

The only problem is that if you are inside range 6 - then the Beater X that you just stung with a 10-15 damage attack saunters over and pretty much routs / outright kills one of your minis per hit.

Aasimar Favored Soul. If it did a little more melee damage or had better spells, it'd be worth its 20 points. Sound Burst is nearly worthless in the 200/8 format, why couldn't it have been a good spell like Resist Energy, Summon Monster II, or even Spiritual Weapon?

Red Wizard. I would love, love, LOVE to be able to build a Tier-1 warband around him, but he is just too damn squishy. LE needs a good bodyguard mini with tons of hit points for him to work.

Centaur Hero. It was the CG ranged/melee piece I was waiting for. It just seems too expensive and takes up too much of your warband for its cost.

Xorn. Too many good fliers in the meta and Legion's Undeniable Gravity is a bit unreliable.

The whole move-12-and-drop-40-damaged thing + Cleave would just be wonderful if the darn just had +2 lvl and 10 or 20 more HPs...

Regdar, Adventurer...played a looong campaign with him as my commander, so I´m really fond of the guy, but CR 2 and Speed 4 make him useless in regular games ;(

I really, really wish the Helmed Horror worked better... So they would ban it! [:P] Just kidding.[:D] I think if the Dolgaunt Monk was just a little better, it would be tier one. Maybe tweak the damage output?

Ghasts. What's not to love, undead, paralyzing, stenchy and full of love!

I had hoped that once the difficult 5 became a non-factor that they would magically be viable. Somehow though, the ac 17 30 hp critter for 25 points just doesn't work still. I kept hoping, it's like a Trog, but it can paralyze! Someday Ghasty, someday I'll make your purple self work in a warband.

Evermeet Wizard. SHe would be exceptional if it were not for the Summoners rule regarding the fact that the all die when the summoners die, and that they summoned creatures arae worth points. I wish they would change this rule.

That's not enough. It also needs a higher AC and incorporeal should be 15, not 11. I mean, how stupid is that?

For me, it has to be either the Sword of Heironious or the Drow Cleric of Lolth... they were my two favorite figures from the old sets, but every time I try to use them now, especially the DCoL, she just gets torn up by the figs in today's metagame... though the look on some people's faces when I throw it down is can be priceless [:D}

Lots of choice of course. I'd add Spectre. They'd be nasty if either started off with a bit more HPs or had 2 attacks.

And I will add my usual frustration: The Paladin of Torm. - Useful commander effect with the lawful rise but too easy to hit a figure that can't take the beating.

The Half-Giant Psychic Warrior also. Too few HP and attack bouns not good enough for taking a round to "load" your big attack.

And Warforged Hero: 15 Magic Damage would have made the Mephling pull-over more worth it. Dragon Samuari with better attack bonus or 16 points cheaper (half the Mephling) too. Or Gold Champion with +2 level and 5 more HP.

LG: Dwarf Samurai; he just doesn't do anything quite well enough.
CG: Catfolk Wilder; Negates?Negates? What the heck is the point?
LE: Artemis Entreri; I don't know, give him conceal, a few more points of AC, or the abiltiy to sneak attack things that are normally immune, or just 20 more HP and he'd probably be used. As he is, he is sub-par.
CE: Ravenous Vampire: off the top of my head, this has the worst HP to cost ratio of anything non-epic that is meant to fight in melee. And it costs 58 points. Goody.

I really wish the MDP had 15 more hp, and some level boost. I think at level 8 and 65 hp, he'd be a standard.

I wish the Arcane Archer worked a lot better. This would have been a great core commander to have for CG's ranged units, the way the Tiefling Captain is for CE's heavy hitters. Problem is, it really needs three adjustments. Lower cost, more HP, and 10 magic damage per ranged attack.

Grey Render I just love this guy but to be really competative he would have to loose the commander efx restriction at least magic damage wouldn't hurt either.
