| I ended up with the Huge Fire Elemental and the Huge Fiendish Spider for my huges. For my rares, I got the Wizened Elder Watcher and the Goliath Cleric of Kavaki.
Did anyone get a worse pull during the prerelease?

Me either. What's worse is that I was so close, I could taste it. I live in Albuquerque, 6 hours away from the closest pre-release in Colorado Springs. My draw was actually pretty good, despite not getting a huge rare. I pulled a Blue Barney, a Cadavor Collector, a Firebelcher, a Cleric of Syreth, a Diseased Dire Rat and a Hunting Hyena. Together with the Spider and a kobold zombie, I was in pretty good shape for someone without an Aspect. | |

| On paper it looks maybe a tiny bit ok, however...
With no commander, no useable commander effect and needing to keep a decently powered creature as my commander 0 (because damage outputs are so high, and so many flying creatures) the purple worm/war weaver combo was hamstrung.
Three average rolls routed my purple worm (9, 9 and 9 for rolls) across the entire board. Since almost any huge is almost assuredly going to take a morale check (AC 19 for purple worm for instance, and no resistances) no commander or DBPL only is going to be very rough (DBPL being far better, because it is very durable).
I think they should have saved some of those Tiefling Blademaster promos from the last tourney pack and sent them along with H-F Spiders. One design issue was addressed with spiders, the othe rknow issue could have been addressed as well (no commander drawn or optionally DBPL only being allowed to pull in a Tiefling Blademaster by trading out an equal or higher cost fig.)
On our tourney Saturday we are (probably) going to do that with a mercenary sergeant, you still will not get a commander effect, but commander 2 is leagues better than commander 0. The lowest cost fig rule makes commander 0 even that much more of an impediment (A good rule in 200 point, not so good of a rule in 500 IMO)
Another idea would be to use the current rule but say Commander 0 = +5 points, Commander 1 = +15 points, commander 2 (Max) = +25 points.
In any case, constructed will fix this, and the "I draw an Aspect or Tordek and I get a golden ticket" syndrome as well. It would be morbidly interesting to cross reference the final placements of golden ticket winners (no slight to them, they have to play well to capitalize on their good pull, they just have a lot more margin of error) to those with no commander/commander 0 or DBPL as their only commander. I think one DBPL only band placed top 4..... though he might have had another commander?
I think commanders are even more important in 500 point (obviously I am sure many are saying) with the huge damage outputs.
Anyway, good luck to all, and I still think my draw is a contender for worst. :-)

One guy I played got; Displacer Beast Pack Lord, Huge Spider, Cleric of Kavaki and Wizened Elder Watcher (pretty close to your warband). He played the Watcher to magic fang the Displacer Beast Lord, but did manage to slow down my Fang Dragon for 1 round with it.

Interestingly enough, I pulled this exact same Huges/Rares combo (Worm, Troll, Weaver, and Clawfoot). I did, however, pull a commander 3 (Yuan-ti Sorc). I ended up intentionally-drawing for 1st/2nd place out of a field of 20 with a record of 5-1-1. | |

| Exactly, (and well played, congrats) a Commander would have made all the difference in the world.
My worm would have made morale, eaten his warden and then it would have been wrap up as I was well ahead on points, so instead of winning by 182, I lost by 7. Thw worm was literally the only points he got from me.

| Man, I bought 4 packs today and got Tundra Scout x2, Eldritch Giant, and a Bluespawn for my huges. Rares were: Large Fang Dragon, Dragonborn Fighter, Tordek, Redspawn Firebelcher.
I now have 4 Tundra Scouts and 2 Eldritch Giants!! I have none of the other huge rares. My buddy pulled 3 Tiamats already (and will only trade them for other huge dragons).
If anyone has a Dracolich/Bahamut/Tiamat/Huge Black they want to trade for a Tundra Scout or Eldritch Giant, please get in touch! | |

| | My Father and I both played. Because he doesn't collect the mini's he let me keep what he pulled. We both proceeded to pull a Displacer Beast Packlord AND a Purple Worm! For his rares he pulled a War Weaver (which he claims sucks) and a Clawfoot Rider. I pulled a Wizened Elder Watcher and Large Fang Dragon for my rares. I also pulled a Storm Archer and a Warden of The Wood. So two Purple Worms and Two Displacer Beasts. I traded 1 Displacer Beast for a Mountian troll. Then I bought some packs and pulled a Second Mountain Troll, Dracolich and Redspawn, along with another Warden of the Wood and 2 more Storm Archers. I traded the Clawfoot, Mountain troll and a THRID Displacer BeastI pulled for an Eldritch Giant and a Greenspawn. I also traded a Purple Worm for a Huge Fire Elemental and I pulled the Fire Summoner from a pack. | |

| Last week, I pulled a Purple Worm, Displacer Pack Lord, Cadaver Collecter and Warshaper. Not bad pulls, but, not something that should compete with the better dragon god pulls.
I squeaked into a 2nd place finish, winning a few matches by the skin of my teeth.
This week, I had great pulls.
My warband this week was almost as it would have been if I'd constructed it, and it was quite a turn-around from my dice luck at the qualifiers.
This was my 1st place warband at this week's Phantom release event.
1 - Tiamat
2 - Large Fang Dragon
3 - Greenspawn Razorfiend
4 - Small Black Dragon
5 - Spellscale Sorcerer
6 - Aasimar Fighter
7 - Tavern Brawler
8 - Dread Warrior
I was even luckier that the Bahamut + Bluespawn Godslayer combo that WAS pulled...
...was pulled by a young kid, new to DDM.
He was actually 3-0 when I faced him, and I only won because I was able to sacrifice lesser pieces to his combo. Once I realized he would attack the closest piece to him, it was just a game of "get ahead" then "keep away". (although, he played well for a kid, and he did go after assault points and took advantage of abilities)
Honestly, the 2nd place finish with the Purple Worm/Displacer/CadaverCollecter combo was much harder to win with.
As far as Tiamat or Bahamut domination, it continues, but, I have to say that I had a VERY tough match against Epic Tordek and the Sorcerer on Black Dragon.
Also had a very tough match on Teleport Temple vs a Mountain Troll and Bluespawn Godslayer combo.
But those matches were tough because the players were very good, I'd say I had the "draw" advantage going in.
It made me feel better, at least, that I had been on the other side of it the previous week, taking a loss prior to making the playoff and a loss in the final to a Tiamat band very similar to the one that I won with this week. | |

If you don't pull a commander it really really really hurts. One of my two hunting hyenas had to be a commander 0 (sigh)
I went 2-2, and the two I won were against people who had not played in some time.
the dracolich is a cool piece, but its not good for skirmish (though beholder/dracolich looks kinda cool...) | |

| When I went to the Pre-release As far as huge and rares, I got crap.
Huge Spider and Huge Fire Elemental and rares were Hobgoblin Talon of Tiamat (no spawn) and Clawfoot rider (whic was actually okay).
But for uncommons I did good because I pulled 2 storm archers and a WotW. And a good common in the Witchknife. So I was able to scrap it together for a 4th place finish.
1st ran Huge Spider and Mountain Troll , cleric of syreth, and some other stuff.
2nd Aspect of Bahamut and Godslayer.
3rd Tiamat (don't remember what else).
So I felt proud of my 4th place finish.
