In honor of our last game day at our soon to be closing FLGS, it was decided that we would play 1000 point 8 figs.  In assessing the possibilities I had decided that CE is the weakest in the format with no really epic commander.  So after much deliberation and some feeling out what my opponents were considering, I went with the following LG warband.

Aspect of Bahamut x 2
Epic Tordek Dwarf Champion
Couatl
Arcane Ballista
War Weaver
on Dragondown Grotto

The rest of the field

Aspect of Bahamut x 3
Warweaver
Aramil Adventurer
on Teleport Temple

Aspect of Tiamat
Epic Lord Soth
Beholder x 3
Bluespawn Godslayer
Timber Wolf x 2
on Tomb of Queen Peregrin

Epic Aspect of Kord x 3
Ghale Eladrin
Epic Guenwyfvar
Inspiring Marshall x 2
Moon Elf Fighter
on Fields of Ruin

Aspect of Tiamat
Beholder x 6
Bluespawn Godslayer
on Dragondown Grotto

Epic Balor
Epic Warduke
Sorcerer on Black Dragon
Huge Fiendish Spider
Ryld Argith
Orc Wardrummer x 2
Cursed Spirit
on Kings Road

In the end I went 2-1 beating the Chaotic Good Warband and the six Beholders but losing to CE when one Bahamut bolted for the hills and Tordek switched sides.  The Chaotic Evil Warband proceeded to beat the Beholders when Tiamat switched sides, and also the other Bahamut band by causing them to flee.  Left us wondering what we should be cursing, our dice, the wardrummer, or stupid Warduke.

Sounds like fun, conmiserations on loosing the game store, I remember when a local coffee shop got bought up and had to close, we had been going there for coffee and board games for three or four years...very sad, smiley's cannot express it.

Hmmm, 1000 pts? I'd like to see if I could get both Aspects into a band together (via Dragon Totem Hero).

For example:

Dragon Totem Hero

Asp of Bahamut

Asp of Tiamat

Asp of Kord

Lg Copper

Dragonne

Wild Elf Raider

Why the large Copper? With the Aspect of Bahamut you have a pretty good initiative to begin with, and the LCD is such a horrid piece, I'd use a sayter or two for the critical initiatives and make room for a crow shamen or something to cast snake's swiftness.

What, no Iconics?  I guess its inclusion would have been a huge blow to the metagame.

Interesting that you should dismiss CE and then watch it come back an win.

Pretty sure the Dragon Totem Hero can't warband build the Aspect Dragons as they're both commanders, although Elminster could draw Bahamut to CG.

Yeah CE was the surprise, and in particular that warband as it's quite fun to be aquiring opponents stuff.

You're right about both the Dragon Totem Hero and Elminster.  It's sad when an FLGS that you like closes, but that's a pretty nice fairwell.
