| -The tournament season has over here and I,m very tired of seeing always the same warbands. My local gaming-zone is reduced but very, very competitive. That,s my experience with the most powerful epic warbands in each faction: LG: bahamut with couatl and warweaver.Arcane ballista and warforged bodyguard appear a lot too.The best choice for tournaments-winners. LE:Tiamat with dark moon monk nad a lot of helmed horrors.Duergar champion and large duergar have been seen too a lot.The another best choice in my opinion. CG:It,s hard to say because only a few players have play it,but the best option looks like to be the archmage with inspiring marshall and graycloak.Frenzied berserker, spellscale and crow shaman are good average pieces. CE:It,s sad but fomorian continues being the only one true competitve epic CE warband.Try ryld argith, orc wardrummer, drider sorcerer (if not banned) and tiefling captain.Eye.orc champ and red samurai are very good choices but not so good like they used to be. Your experience, please? | | LOVE THIS GIRL | |

| yes, kobold miner is always used.I,m no sure about bluespawn.Yes,it is cheap but not a true competitive tier 1 piece.Even it is a good piece against bahamut (not sure about this) ,against the rest of warbands it is not useful. The most of people prefer helmed horror and the duergars ,much more useful in the most of circunstances and much more cheap in order to gain more activations. | | LOVE THIS GIRL | |

| CG warbands usually work really good in epic due to the tactical possibilities. In my opinion one of the best chaotic good warbands is: Elminster (non-epic), 3 Archmages, Inspiring marshall, Evermeet wizard (+6 TWolf), Meph Pyro. | | | |

| I've seen several dual-epic Storm Archer bands tear the crap out of other epic bands.
Something like this is quite powerful:
Storm Archer (epic) x2 Crow Shaman x4 Nentyar Hunter Inspiring Marshal
Of course, not everyone has four Crow Shamans, and sometimes you might want a melee unit or two, so there are lots of other options. But, most have two Storm Archers and two Crow Shamans as the core.

| LG with Bahamut I have seen the spellscale be a great addition particularly for mirror matches as a blurred Bahamut will beat a regular Bahamut most of the time. LE: adding GS Razorfiends I have found very helpful to Tiamat bands. CG: both the multi-archmage IM bands and dual Storm archer bands are hard to beat CE: non-Epic Balor with the Fomorians. | | Champion of Cyclops

| I haven't tried it out myself, but I've read that Tiamat and the Beholder have some good synergy. The Spellscale is indispensible with Bahamut, not just for the blur, but also the Counterspell and ray of enfeeblement. Multi-Barneys haven't proven to be good at taking out a well-built, well-run Bahamut. | | | |

| Interesting idea.
Aspect of Tiamat Beholder Dark Naga Snig + Skirmisher minions Dire Rat
That's 10 activations. The Beholder's fear ability is useful when Tiamat is basing an enemy.
Could work.

| CE is best I think with Ryld and either the Fomorian or a Mountain
Troll works well also. Use 2 death slads, mainly for the use of
deadly rend (hammers too of course if facing lawful). Non epic
Balor is a good choice and Ogre Ravagers for aura of fear 2.. Now here is one
interesting thing Warduke non epic its not great I agree but heres the
thing in epic when people are using alot of higher level minis methodic
killer is a good option then your +17/+12 for 25 damage a swing, not
bad he has 130 hit points.
Heres what I like to use
Mountain Troll 173
Death Slaad X2 106
Half Fiend Ogre 41 or Ogre Ravager 38 or Orc Champion 39
Orc Wardrummer 19
Githyanki Fighter 35 (2 blur for conceal 6)
Warduke 70
Ryld Argith 55
-----------------------------
Total             499
My map choice is Tomb of Queen Per.

| Posted By troll4death on 09/02/2006 10:26 AM snip Half fiend ogres are also nice for the use of disruptive its nice when commander eight bahamut cant use his score. Now here is one interesting thing Warduke non epic its not great I agree but heres the thing in epic when people are using alot of higher level minis methodic killer is a good option then your +17/+12 for 25 damage a swing, not bad he has 130 hit points. .
Just a reminder here, Disruptive affects YOUR warband NOT your opponents. I don't think it is such a bad drawback when you have a terrible command rating and a balor; by the time the Red Tide kicks in your disruptive creatures should be contently smashing the opposition. With any moderate command rating Disruptive can often cost you some very important map and set up initiatives.
As for the best warband in each faction that will depend on what the competition brings to the table.

| | The truth is that the most powerful warbands right now are tiamat or bahamut warbands. The others can do well but It is my experience that every tournament I have seen has been taken by tiamat or bahamut only. And yes, archmages are the best choice for CG without any doubt (much better option than kord/rikka/goliath and half ogres).Oh,and I have forgot slaughterstones!they are great too. | | LOVE THIS GIRL | |

Now, this sounds like a cool idea. Might be kind of tough to pull off, but sure would be fun if it worked. BTW, Death from Above is a nice name for the warband. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| Last Saturday I took the local 500 pt tournie at an undefeated record.
Using Tri-Godslayers, Urthok, Kobold Sorcerer, Timber Wolf and Dual
Goblin Skirmishes on TT. I strongly believe that the Godslayers are a
top piece in my opinion.

| Congratulations!
I am a big friend of archmages anyhow in epic and often used: 3AM, Elmin, IM, Evermeet, Meph pyro...
Considering the Moonelf and the possibility to cast 8 MSwords in a row.... just horrible.

What types of opposing bands did you face? Was the tournament heavy with dragon bands? Or did you face Epic Storm Archer and Epic Tordek bands? If the later, how well did you do against them?
Sorry for so many questions. Locally we only play every other saturday and I haven't faced a lot of dragon bands yet. Mostly oddball creations that are very effective. | |

| | I have tested epic storm archer warband with crow shaman and spellscale sorcerer and have obtained very good results.Seriously, this epic is a very good one and beat all my opposing warbands. But loose against tiamat warband in the final round! How sad!Ok that is my experience:Epic storm archers warbands are very solid and really funny but not enough powerful to defeat tiamat/bahamut warbands. | | LOVE THIS GIRL | |

| Posted By gorstag on 09/01/2006 9:18 AM I won the Gencon Epic Tournament (6-0 my score) by playing CG. My warband was: 4x Archmage, Inspiring Marshal, Moonelf Fighter, Graycloak + Wolf, Satyr. Some questions on winning the GenCon Epic Tournamnet:
1) Why did you use the Satyr?Â
2) Did you face any Bahamut and or Tiamat warbands?Â
3) If you did face any Bahamut and or Tiamat warbands, what did you use first against them? Mordy's Swords? Empowered MAgic Missile? Empowered Melfs Acid Arrow (against Bahamut)? Basically, how did you deal with these two beasts?Â
4) What other warbands did you face in your 6 wins?Â
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.Â

| I like the dark naga inclusion on the Tiamat warband. My previous Tiamat + Beholder used the greenspawn razorback which was not irreplacable, though it was effective.
However, I think that with Tiamat being immune to electricity, the Dragondown Grotto map has an ideal situation where the Dark Naga and Beholder sit each side of the rock, being in command, but not seeing each other. You can cast spells freely, while still boosting the eye ray.
Mind you, using the Dark Naga with the Beholder means it is more effective to use rays other than the fear for anyone who has a commander greater than 0. If Tiamat is involved, the fear effectively becomes DC25, so a commander 6 is then required to make them the same roll.
I like it.
I might point out that my Tiamat band was finally once defeated last week, by Bahamut + Epic Slaughterstone + Man at Arms.
