What if you could buy dice roll bonuses trough giving away victory points to your opponent. Would it be a worthwile addition to the rules?

Either only for your own rolls, or also for the rolls of your opponent so as to make it possible to counter any bonuses bought by him.

First, it would likely slow down the game somewhat. Secondly, it would probably increase the importance of skill as compared to luck. It might also give chaotic players a way to deal with their higher variance.

Obviously, the lower the cost in VP to buy a given bonus, the more attractive it becomes and the greater it's overall impact on the gameplay.

Another option would be to only allow players to spend victory points they have already earned. That is, if a player would score some early points, he could feed these into his play to breed further success.

Restrictions on how victory points might be spent could conceivably favor different ways of playing the game. Allowing the use of victory points to increase attack bonuses but not to decrease them would  for example perhaps promote a more aggressive and intensive gameplay.

I've not played the game enough to have any definitive opinion as to what the actual practical impact of such a rules addition might be though.

I take it what you're getting at is something like this?

Player 1) Okay, before I attack, I'm going to subtract 20 points from my total to get a +2 on this roll.
Player 2) Alright, so, your score goes from 153 to 133 then, right?
Player 1) Right.
Player 2) Fine. Roll it.

It might deserve some playtesting, but I think it's too much of a violation of the nature of the game for it to receive serious consideration from the designers. But I could be wrong.

I think it could work in a casual format although play testing would be required. While I like the concept of spending points you've already earned that may often just turn into winning more, the guy who is up 40-50 points can easily give up a few to help guarantee success and make your game even more unwinnable. You also need to make the cost high enough that there is actually some risk involved.

In a tournament or even a basic timed setting I think there would be too much bookwork to allow it use.
