| Warband Challenge VII The subject of the WBC's is to build the best warband with the given rules and to crush your enemy in 1-1 fights. These duells are fought by the community and there votes on the warbands duelling each other.
The Rules: Except the following rules, every "normal" rules for warband constrution are still in effect.
Each warband must consist of maximum 8 figures, 200 points, one commander, one figure of each listed category (explained later) and not more then 2 copies of the same figure. Only figures that fall in one of these categories are allowed (huge/EPIC creatures are allowed too, if they’re legal to one of the given categories) The Categories: Category 1: 51 – 140 points and life is equal or lower then 1x times there cost minus 2 Category 2: 21 – 50 points and life is equal or lower then 2x times there cost minus 2 Category 3: 11 – 20 points and life is equal or lower then 3x times there cost minus 2 Category 4: 3 – 10 points and life is equal or lower then 4x times there cost For example: Medusa is 63 points, so falls automatically in category 1 and she is allowed because her life isn’t higher then 63x1-2. A Duergar Champion is not allowed. He falls in category 2 but his life is 65 and with 33 points only figures with life 64 are allowed (33x2-2) Please send your Warbands per e-Mail (rogwit at t-online dot de). NOT IN THIS THREAD!!!Because I don’t want people vote due to players strength. Include a strategy and a map, please. The pairings will be determined via lottery on VASSAL (I need a Judge watching over the dice rolling) After each round the winner goes on in the winner bracket, while the loser went down to the loser bracket. After 2 losses you’re eliminated! So good luck to all participants in finding the good pieces (or there counter!). | |

| Wow, getting something into that Category 1 slot is proving to be a serious challenge for some factions.
There are a lot of excellent commander choices at a couple different levels--interesting choices.
One of the things that's getting to me is that of the pieces that are available, some of them are particularly bad matchups against others in the list. But, that's always true.

It says that you need a commander and one mini from each category. Can the commander fill the quota for one of the four categories?
I assume that you actually could use a duergar champion, but it wouldn't qualify as one of the four minis needed to fill each of the four category slots.
I also assume you need to have the warband at exactly 200 points and 8 minis, so no 199 point/7 mini warbands, for example. | | | |

Let me make sure I have the rules clarified.
1) Maximum of 8 figures (could be as few as 4)
2) Maximum of 200 points (could be as few as 86--though no one would)
3) Maximum of 1 commander (but could be as many as 
4) Minimum of 1 from each category
5) Maximum of 5 in any one category (though, of course, in some categories that's impossible)
Are minions and summons allowed? And if so, do they have to fall within the limitations of the band? That is, you can use Snig and three minions (only two of which could be Skirmishers) but you still cannot have more than 8 figures?
Are we supposed to pick a map as well? And, when the voting starts to take place, will you use some kind of Vassal-die-rolling system to determine which map is played between which pairing, or will the voters have to anticipate which band will win, knowing what the two map choices are?

Yes, the commander can fill a category slot.
"Only figures that fall in one of these categories are allowed" so I don't see a chance getting a Duergar Champion in your warband...
No you can have 199 points and 5 activations. | |

So "normal" rules for warband constrution are still in effect. That means Minions, Summons don't count as figures in the process of Warband building. That allthough means that the Drider is still band. The person know who I mean...
If you read my post carefully you will notice this sentence: "Include a strategy and a map, please."
The normal rules for map apply. So the voters have to anticipate based on the maths. | |

| I spent about an hour going through the list of minis, finding minis that fit into very category. I was going by hit points, starting at the top. I got down to 50 before I had to leave and do other things. I have a pretty good list so far.
There are quite a few high-cost, less-than-stellar HP pieces that are in this group. There are also some fantastic commanders and lower-cost tech pieces that make it.
Furthermore, there are a handful of traditional beaters that make the cut too. But, you've really got to pay attention to the cost/p cutoff to see some of the gems.

I take it that means, also, that figures which don't make the cut for inclusion in a warband because of their point/hp ratio can still be minions or summoned creatures? Perfect example is the Timber Wolf. 5 points * 4 - 2 = 18, which is less than his hp, so you can't include one in your warband. However, a Timber Wolf could be a minion of a Graycloak Ranger? or summoned by an Evermeet Wizard? | |

| I did a similar thing to what Dave did, but I narrowed my search to CE figures that fit into Category 1. I could be missing something, but I only found 2. And, oddly, they are both vampires.

Ah, I misread things. You subtracted 2 after multiplying in each of the first 3 categories, and I missed that you weren't subtracting in category 4. I guess I thought it made sense to subtract there, too, because otherwise you're only excluding the Warforged Scout and Hunting Cougar. | |

| Aside from the two major tier-1 bands, I can't really decide whether I want to go with one of the very strong CE possibilities, or maybe try out a band that has some hate for those tier-1 bands (problem is, I can find hate for either one, but not both--yet).

| Out of curiosity, how many submissions have been received thus far?
Also, how exactly does the play/vote thing work? (I haven't participated in any of these warband challenges before.) Are games set to be played on a specific day? Do I need to be present for it (might make a difference if there's a schedule conflict)? How does voting work in relation to winning vs. losing a game? | | | |
