So... Bad pulls at the prereleas today... i think i did the best I could with what I had... see Rainy day in OR for better report and results... anyway i pulled:

i already posted my warband on Rainy Day in OR tourny result thread... i'll put up my other option later... how would have you built, what map, and how do you think you would have done in a sealed tourny with such a pull???

Points would help out a lot. Many of us know the peices but don't know points yet. I would tell you, but I keep having to look up points and recount.

Anyways, on topic... Bad rares, nice support minis. What I would have done is risky, but potentially devastating.

Shadowdancer hunts potential tech/commanders and flanks with the Chasme. The Chasme itself is used as a blocker for the mages, and the Free Lagues commander effect helps it actually hit stuff. Elf Warmagi do the real hurting in the warband, you just have to hope they actually stay alive. Greenspawn for VP's, Acheron is regular fodder.

Looks pretty close to my original... what do you mean you didn't have the points... are you in a time warp!?!?!

anyway...

I chose one warmage due to all the elemental resistances and spell res... hind sight is 20 20 so i might have used both knowing what I know now...

how about maps???

how well do you think you could have done???

My initial instinct is to try something slightly different. The shadowdancer is a good piece, but I think you could benefit a lot from having the living flaming sphere as a fire-immune blocker to use your cone effects over. The game will probably be won or lost solely on the strength of the warmages. I think I'd probably end up with something like: chasme warmage x2 flaming sphere free league ranger greenspawn sneak acheron goblin 197 points. There are some nice synergies with the chasme's sleep ability here as well, since elves and oozes are immune sleep. I'd try to make sure I had a map with restricted pathways so I could use both large base figures to keep opposing figures away from my warmages long enough for them to leverage their spells. I think this is a pretty iffy draw in general, though.

Very iffy draw... i'll go ahead and tip my hand... so stop reading now if you don't want to know...

Chose the chasme as the big blocker with the most save and the most HP... drone was useful but not overpowering... with CE save nerfing this could be scary though... warmage was my mvp by far... i only went with one due to the large amount of SR in the set... living flame sphere was intended for my blocker to fire cone through but i found i too often sent him off on his own to deal with stragglers or flank commanders with his high speed... i really really really like him and hope to find a place for him in a competetive warband... trample firesheild att for 30dmg is great... shadow dancer was the main reason i didn't go with 2 warmages... she was invaluable to my wins and made my losses close... shadow jump is my new favorite ability... and defensive roll makes her have 70-90 hps!!! well worth her cost though i don't know about 7 of them as another thread has posted...hammerer was an obvious choice as fearless hard hitting fodder... a bit slow but hits for 30 against asleep opponenets... free league was my only choice for commander and even though i forgot about it most of the time the +2 to att was useful the times i needed it, init surge was great though didn't pan out for me... and his lawful and outsider foe was huge for a sealed event... rounding out my warband was the sneak and the acheron gobo for good fodder... sneak was vp grabber and if i would have know the real hide rules he would have preformed passibly... The ACHERON GOBO HAS A BETTER THAN 4/1 HP/COST RATIO!!!... excellent fodder piece... i chose keep of the fallen kings to funnel my opponents and divert line of sight as well as having lots and lots of walls to shadow jump...

my second option was the dual warmage beat down... 80 auto electicity dmg would be hard hard hard to deal with and often contemplate making a warband based on this idea... not too terribly many competitive pieces with elect immunity (sans storm) so these two hit hard hard hard... I was also tempted to empower ring of blades (and did so my first match) but soon found out the real use would be the maxed shocking grasp... using two warmages ment dropping either the shadowdancer or the hammerer and having less than 8 activations which i knew would be key in using the chasme and the warmages... dropping a 30hp fearless fodder that hits for 15 was hard to do (30 if they're sleeping!)... in hindsight i should have used the dual warmage and maybe the phoera as well as a blocker to cone through... but really i think i only used the cone twice... soundlance was very usefull as well as the aforementioned shocking grasp... i wish she had a single casting of an unlimited range spell though... would make her very very viable (perhaps too much so) but could see dropping off a single fire cone/ max gasp for a single empowered MM or something... would have been nice...

I went two and two and was a init win away from three and one... much much better than i expect my band to do... dual warmages may have made the differance... see my rainy day in Or tourny report for more details...

LR - the request has been made for the last several set releases "when you post a what would you have built thread", YOU include the point costs for each model so that the people you are asking for help dont each have to go look it up.
