*WBC IX: The Name Game* Thanks everyone for coming and reading this post hopefully you will be participating in the event. All you have to do is, send me an e-mail (karlnbrooke1@aol.com) of your warband (following the rules for the event) and just vote on who you think will win each match, you do NOT have to participate to vote. Now the rules: There are two ways to construct a warband in this event. A. 1. 200 points 2. Multiples are only allowed for creatures 3-9 points. 3. You may mix factions. 4. All creature’s name must begin with the same starting letter. The starting letter is the official name that is printed on the card.* 5. Creatures with Elf/Elven, Dwarf/Dwarven, Drow, Human, Half, Gnoll, Goblin, Cleric, Dire, Large, Medium, Kolbald, Orc and Orge in their name you may only use up to 3 times. I didn’t want to see a bunch of race themed bands….Sorry too easy or B. 1. 200 points 2. Multiples are not allowed. 3. You may mix factions. 4. The first letter of each creature’s official name must be in consecutive order. Example: B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I with 8 activations(of course you can use less activations).* 5. Z wraps to A Which ever direction you choose include your map and a small paragraph with the strategy that you would use with this band. Also include your screen name. I chose two different ways to make more diverse warbands but the idea is still revolves around the first letter in the creatures name. *I suggest downloading Bifur’s Warband Editor from the general discussion page because you can sort by name. The program rocks and everyone should have it anyway. All the entries must be in by January 5^th, 2007 at 12:00 Midnight EST. Each round will also end on the following Friday nights. Minions and summoned creatures do not effect warband building rules. I thought this was self explanatory sorry I left it out. As long as the creature "pulling the minions in" or summoning the creature/s follows the building rules then it is legal.

Oh sure, there have to be pieces in between A and C, but there are lots of good options. And, given that there's a Xeph Warrior, and a Zakya Rakshasa, there are some interesting new uses for some low-cost, underplayed creatures that start with Y. Especially if you want to use a War Weaver. Dave

Come on, this one is on the card. Is the Drider allowed? Sure, this is not a DCI-sactioned tournment Do you need consecutive letters in a row / between? ie Aspect of Kord / Blue / Couatl (A B C). Yes, you need the letter in between, Rule #4.

My entry is in. This was a tough challenge to build for; it's surprisingly difficult to field an effective band without some crucial missing element. If you use method 2, there can often come some key hole in the middle of the progression that you have a hard time filling without compromising your warband as well. I look forward to seeing what others come up with!

Some more interesting things I've learned: 1) The Quaggoth is absolutely essential for some bands 2) There are almost no good options starting with the letter N 3) Blindsight is going to be important against Gnome Tricksters 4) You can get a Steel Predator's morale save up to +16 5) The Orc Wardrummer and War Weaver are just a little too far apart, alphabetically... Well I went though a lot of combinations just to make sure it was do-able. But I also didn't want something that was very straight forward. If you want something good, you have to put a little research and effort into it. I am pleased with all of the entries so far. When I post the pairings do you want your name on top of the war band or anonymous until the end? Just curious... If I ever win again I have another idea that could make for some interesting warbands.

I think that the pairings without names is a god idea. And then everyone votes for every match, including their own--but the person keeping track then throws out the votes that are cast by a participant in that pairing. That's just my view. Anyone else want to chime in? Dave

On the subject of "O" bands, I wasn't sure if the rules meant you could have, say, three different ogres and three different orcs, or only three minis beginning with "ogre" or "orc" overall. I considered asking, but finally came up with another idea I liked better, so didn't bother.

You can have 3 "ogre" names and 3 "orc" names in the same band and even more if they are minions (like I said in an earlier post "minions do not effect warband contruction rules).

Warband sent! I was pretty suprised about the amount of good warbands too. Though there were some pretty bad letters like N, P, Q, U and Y.
