| Well, there's always the old classic:
Lich Necromancer Clay Golem x2 Filler to taste
still might perform decently, particularly against shadowdancers, since their damage will be rather low against this band. | | Call me: W.N. Gobo! originally posted by grim: While he is clearly insane, he does have a point.

It's an update of my old qualifier band. It has no new figures, but I think it's still tough. The Lich's ranged threat somewhat alleviates the Golem's speed problem, since the enemy can often be made to meet you where you want to fight. You might be down on assault points, but the Cursed Spirits can get first turn points on a lot of maps. Any Lich/Golem band will have trouble with Sacred Watchers--the Cursed Spirits, being easier targets, might take some heat off the Lich, in that match (though, admittedly, it might not help). It also will have trouble against bands that are immune to paralysis, like quad-LE with Helmed Horrors and Duergar Champions. But it has good matchups even in today's meta, I think. The Eye and Golem hit hard, and they can hit reliably against virtually any opponent suffering from stench. Any paralyzed opponent dies in a flash. Two tough commanders can easily keep the Golem under control.

Being immune to spells you can always position the Golem to suck up unfortunate spell rolls by the Slaadi. Ryld is a tough commander for reliably commanding the Golem, his initiative can win you a nice first-turn fireball map, and his commander effect could earn you some devastating shots by the Golem. Suffers against DR, though, and low on activations (but you'd hope for a fireball or two to even things out).
57 Storm 56 Clay Golem 33 Storm Archer x2 12 Lantern Bearer 09 Xeph Warrior x3
The last is probably the best I have to offer. The idea is that a strong ranged threat will bring the enemy within reach of the slow golem. The Lantern Bearer is a cheap way for Storm to get some protection against invisible folks, especially Shadowdancers, plus he makes the band more resilient against evil, and Storm makes him fearless, which is very nice. The Storm Archers, also fearless with Storm, should be able to keep up the damage, because most enemies are going to want to take out Storm first, if they can. | | "Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish." - Albert Einstein Champion of Myopic Half-Orcs Winner, WBC X

| Storm Silverhand Clay Golem Bralani Eladrin Steelheart Archer x3 Xeph Warrior x2
Or
Storm Clay Golem Shadowdancer Gnome Trickster Xen'drik Xeph Warrior x3
With only the Golem visible, the opponent has a clear target. The Dancer and Xen'drik can move out to get their skirmish and sneak attacks set up, and Storm can move to a good position. The Xephs can spread out toward VAs.
