| So, I pulled this guy, and I'm trying to decide what to think of him. Surely, he's worth of gold if there's some heavy undeads against you, but what if there isn't?
He's not very cheap commander, and is pretty close to durability of Half-orc paladin, PDK and CoDA. Commander effect is controversial - of course you would like to have your folk have lots of hitpoints, but (luckily?) that usually doesn't happen... Opponent has one more reason to kill your creatures one at a time - therefore a bodyguard might be very good.
In addition to the CE, he's got lowish attack, one mass cure, 2 10-damage spells, close wounds & some area damage against evil. I believe that incorporeals are usually undead, regarding Make manifest.
Current meta might have lots of undead, but is there much else? This guy would eat sacred watcher -swarms for breakfast, Beholderliches, Vlaakith & Bone naga would also feel uncomfortable - anything else Undead that are going to be seen after few months?
Against CG or LG against watchers, I can see some difficulties. Same goes for Epic version, Heal -spell looks cool, though It seems that this guy is a risk; But how big risk he is?
What do you think of him?

I agree. If you could be assured you were "fighting evil" he would be solid, but when you face a good warband, he really hurts. | | Champion of Prit(Wemic vindication is here) Minneapolis/St. Paul area Completed trades: Aspect of Cheese (Love that moniker), Tickparasite, Elderthing, Lalato, Sodj, Grimoire, SmilinIrish, Zeb, RWarehall,Link, wikkawikkawa, Auramancer, Rommers, HK, Ivid5,Qillan_dvra, Puggins, Arcabius, Ironfist Boulderbender, Robby, Corim Danex, monster_slayer, DNDJUNKIE, Kelemvor, Krush, ckissee, Massawyrm, hockey fan, Wish, Uninspiring Lieutenant, vtloon x2, Vrecknidj, Darthpoke, WakeXX, AnarionZell, lycusmike, papabear5 and umpteen local trades with board members

| At our most recent tournament, one player had a Van Richten, dual-Shield Guardian band.
It was absolutely devastating against evil warbands since you could drop 3 holy smites with the help of the SGs. Against "good" warbands, he would instead give each of the SGs close wounds which they could cast on each other or on Van Richten as was needed. This made those three figs extremely difficult to take down, and the SGs were often benefiting from the CFX since they were often at half hitpoints or less after the melee had begun.
It was certainly an interesting idea and I think he ended up going 2-1 though I never faced him. | | A Proud Gelatinous Dude

| I played him in the pre-release. I'll probably never play him again.
He's slow, does little damage to fend for himself, spells targetted at only evil, and the really bad partis his commander effect. If my creatures are down to half or less HP, an extra 5 dmg won't help them. | | Disipline is the only way to overcome chaos.
