I was just brain storming some ideas for the new Large Gold Dragon.  I was wondering what you guys think about his 140pt cost and how you are going to build around it?

I was thinking about something like this:

Cleric of Yondalla
Large Gold Dragon
Sacred Watcher
Sacred Watcher
Jozan
Man-at-Arms x2
200/7
Map: King's Road

Now of course we don't now the stats on the LGD but it says they gain Magic Weapon and Magic Armor if this is typical MW and MA they will gain +1 attack, magic Damage and +4 AC.  This would make the sacred watchers pretty beefy.  If they gain more like +5 damage or Damage Reduction it would just be a bonus.

This really the only warband I can come up with that has a decent amount of activations and other damage sources.  Tech has to be kept really low or you will lose damage output.  Atleast the LGD has a fare amount of tech built in with the Weakness Cone (hopefully -4 attack -10 damage) and the Dragon's Hoard ability.

What do you guys think?

Im very dissapointed in the dragons starting attack damage, i mean 15 each is nothing compared to figs 1/4 its cost.

I am a nerd, originality and strangeness are good. Blind conformity and stupidity are unforgiveable. All else said, DnD FTW!!

We will have to wait and see what the requirements for the "wrath to kick in." I am really hoping I can use him because I like the Gold dragons.

I'm actually worried that the Large Gold will be a bit too powerful. Wasn't it described as something like the first true titan or the titan's titan or something like that? I bet it's gonna be hard to kill in a 1 hour DCI match. Hopefully, it's not as dominant as I fear it might be.

Im worried too... LGD potencial seems to be very powerup... and this is not a titan is a "MEGA TITAN" :S I hope dont see it in tournament..

Im more worried in limited - sealed games this dragon will be huge....

Double ditto on Ryoga and thenameless.Â

In sealed he will rule, at least it may seem that way.Â

And if he's as powerful as he sounds, he could be a beast in Constructed.Â

I don't think it meant that everyone else in the warband will be under the effects of the spells magic weapon and mage armor, but rather that it would be a special ability that simulates the rest of the war band physically donning armor and weapons from his horde. I imagine it will be a very slight bonus to AC and magic damage, and possibly a bonus to attack as well.

Large Gold Dragon
Cleric of Order
Aramil
Mialee
Timber Wolf x2
Man-at-Arms x2

This assumes that the Gold isn't a commander.

If the Large Gold Dragon is a Commander, how about:

Large Gold Dragon 140 pts

Elf Dragonkith 38

Mialee 6
x2 T Wolf 10
x2 Man @ Arms 6

200 pts, 7 activations

I think its a solid warband altough we dont know everything about the LGD.

The damage output with 3x 15 damage attacks and very high a.ratings is not that bad! Think of the Large Silver Dragon. He was and still is a pretty good peace to play especially with CoO. The other abilities of the LGD are crazy good! If its true you get a 40damage fire cone with DC22. Thats incredible!

It seems like way too littl;e damage, making the gold mor likely a turtle imo.
Though breath weapons will most likley be nice.

~

I still think the hoard ability will grant magic weapon effect, with the armour being +1 AC at most with DR.

Winning with the Gold seems like a simple three step process.

1) Fly in, breathe, and nerf 1 or 2 of your opponent's key pieces.
2) When they swarm your Gold, breathe the best fire cone you can, and kill or rout stuff.
3) Wait for wrath to kick in, then start beating on your opponent. If it looks like the Gold could die, fly away for the win.

Steps 1 & 2 are interchangeable depending on what your opponent gives you. Also, somewhere around step 2, the Gold should be flown to a victory area to assure tile points for as many rounds as possible.

I really hope I pull one out of my case. I don't want to try ad trade for him.

I think wrath will really help out his damage output. I wish he was a commander so you wouldn't have to worry about squeezing in the Cleric of Order or Cleric of Yondalla.

Humm....I,m not sure about the power of this large gold.It is simply too poor damage for 140 points.I explain myself: I,like you, love this gold and would like very much it will be a powerhouse unbeatable but I doub it.Too little damage and high costed. We will see when they realeased it and fight. Will it beat the future black/shadow dragons warbands?

Yup.....I was reall hoping that on a 140 point figure it would be +10, but alas.

The year: 1994. From out of space comes a runaway planet, hurtling between the Earth and the Moon, unleashing cosmic destruction! Man's civilization is cast in ruin!
Two thousand years later, Earth is reborn...
A strange new world rises from the old: a world of savagery, super science, and sorcery. But one man bursts his bonds to fight for justice! With his companions Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel, he pits his strength, his courage, and his fabulous Sunsword against the forces of evil.
He is Thundarr, the Barbarian!

It still might be +10 or even +15. The card will likely read Wrath +__. The scarier thing for me is the need for allies to be elimintaed. In the first build, if I'm taking on the dragon, I swing at nothing else. The 'watchers are annoying, but not very deadly. Aramil is probably almost a must with him because your opponant will not want his nerfiness doing his thing.

I put the sacred watchers in because I needed some other damage output. That was the most efficent thing I could find for LG. Once I have him in hand I will see what I can do.

At his cost of 140 points, Sacred Watchers and Aramil might be all one can fit in a warband with the LGD.Â

Of course if the SW's get magic armor and weapons per the Dragon Treasure Horde, then they will become even deadlier.  Also, 35 hit point Warforged Scouts with 2 attacks each might make nice partners wit the LGD.Â
