I made a post on the WotC forums alluding to this, but it got me to thinking about the Epic playstyle in 2.0, especially with the release of Against the Giants.

I think 2.0 Epic is far superior to 1.0 Epic. The Huges are usable, and make you seriously think about what you're putting into your warband to make them really shine against other Huges. Also, there is every possibility that a group of higher-end 200 point pieces can handle an Epic titan without too much difficulty. It was also possible in 1.0, but not quite to this extent. I think that this was actually intended, seeing the very high-cost non-Epics in the set: Flamestrider Efreet, Roper, Voracious Ice Devil, and so on. These figures have attack bonuses to hit AC 36 (the highest in the set, I think) without having to roll crits. The Ice Devil is hitting at +27, better than most of the Huges by a fair amount.

So in AtG alone, we have a totally viable Epic metagame. Now let's add in the older, higher-priced figures: Lady Vol, Strahd, Rakshasa Baron, Frost Giant Jarl, Large Gold Dragon, Stormrage Shambler, Devourer... the list goes on. I'd say they've introduced Epic in a very, very smart way.

So what's everyone else's opinion on the new Epic gameplay?

Old epic minis saw a lot of play too.Remember tiamat, bahamut, bluespawn,Tordek and fomorian. They saw a lot of play in epic mode (maybe much more than the news will see).I find the new huge minis being very bad choices for huge miniatures

I played pre-release tournament and i saw that the new version of epic skirmish is more dice than strategy. Just for example Yuant-Ti Anathema AC 35 and Def 34... sorry but actually what is the hitter strong enough to reduce 210 HP?

Then...  the strategy ísn´t important, you have to choice a creature with a evry high base attack because with the rest of them you have to roll 17+ to hit (obviusly without cover penalties).

I miss the Storm Archer , Tordek, Bahamut, Dracolich, Lord Soth and Mordenkainen Epic warbands!!!

Skullcleaves lol. Can destroy an anathema....

1.0 was dominated by archmage ever since it came out.  I prefer the pre map epic. Where you played on Lost Temple :D...and your cards were black and white lol.

I played the fire Titan, who is tied for the highest att bonus, and missed far too much. Against the huge red I needed to connect with all 3-4 of my chances when using primal flame. I managed to miss all of them. I missed about 20 times in 4 matches with my +24 ranged and +27 melee.

I've not been fond of epic at all in 1.0 or 2.0. It is almost all about dice.

Rock Bottom Pricing:

I loved my Ice Devil's +27. That was a sure hit.

There is still very few attack boosting bonuses in the game.
