| The truth is I'm a bad, naughty person. :)
I would be happy to answer your questions starting with the last one. I'm listed as a bad trader by one individual (Eric is God) who claims he never recieved my payment for figures I purchased so I sent a second check. Both were cashed, but he swears it wasn't him. The checks were for 15.00$ or so so I really didn't press the issue as it was an international trade to Canada and I don't think there was any legal action to really take over 30.00$ or so. I honestly would prefer that it was cleared to avoid confusion, but since he isn't around anymore (and hasn't been for a few years) there's no real way to clear it. I don't mind it as I don't do much online trading and there are probably dozens and dozens of people on both maxminis and hordelings that can vouch for my character who have met me in person, played in tournaments I've run, stayed at my house when traveling, or recieved figures I've given away for free. Heck I've even traded successfully with a bunch since that was posted.
My post on qualified players stealing slots comes about from what I've seen happen in previous years combined with how shaky the new season has started. I hope that no one tries to steal slots as the tournament scene is the worst its been since the game started. Mostly due to the new rules and stats and people upset about the changes. I judge events, run demos and donate a lot of my time to making this game a success and hate to see things that derail that. I think we all want the game to grow as we love playing it. At least the thread has sparked some debate and I hope people will think twice before winning another slot when qualified.
Third I posted a long list of things that can help grow the game. I'm a big fan and want to see it be a success. The part about buying collections for cheap you will find happening over and over. When a player I know wants to give up, I first try to keep them playing by resparking their interest. It that fails I point them to the trading sites like Maxminis, ebay, hordelings, and the WotC boards. I will tell them straight out that the collection could be worth a good amount if they piece it off. Almost every single time, the players prefer to dump the lot all at once. Even when told they will get a fraction of the value they still take the offer. You can ask around as it happens a LOT. I'm not the only one that has gotten collections for rock bottom prices.
Finally, the WBC is mainly a fun excercise. It's not too serious and players are encouraged to vote for themselves and even talk up their band. I just happened to be posting when the last round went up which let me sneak in the first post. Dumb luck. Look back at previous rounds and you will see a lot of debate between match ups with players talking up their own choices. I think this last WBC was a bit stagnant as everyone is playing 2.0 minis and not seriously interested in 1.0 discussion. 2.0 is a lot more fun in my opinion plus qualifiers using 2.0 are going on.
I hope that I answered all your questions. If you have any else feel free to post them or email me directly. I'm always glad to chat. None of this offended me or anything so feel free to ask some more if my answers aren't clear enough. I want everyone on these boards to get along and enjoy the game, so I really don't want to scare anyone off. | | Looking for someone to cosponser a midwest DDM event. let me know if your interested! | Posted By Gumper on 05/05/2008 1:29 PM Hi I am new to this site but find this odd. The person who won is the first to post, then votes for himself and gives a paragraph on why it should win. Just think it is odd that he did this.
I mean no disrespect and if I am overstepping bounds here I do apoligise.
Why are people allowed to vote and make statements like he did when he was one of the finalists? I just want to know as I may be interested in joining next time.
I know Brad. He's a great guy. I stand by him. LCS knows him, Tried knows him, Ian knows him, Guy knows him, Peter Lee knows him. He supports the game more than anyone else I know. I've played games against him, we have lots of acquaintances in common, we were scheduled to share a room when we were judging at XP, but he had to back out at the last minute because of a serious, serious family emergency. He still took the time to drive me to the airport and pick me up at the end of the convention (it's not a short drive to the airport, this was a big deal).
I get that if you don't know him, you might not have much to go on.
I've been part of Maxminis forever, and I'm telling Gumper and anyone else, bshugg's more than just an "alright guy," he's a great guy.
As far as the WBC goes, everyone knows there's an element of bluffing and bluster and personality contests. The matches aren't played out, they're voted on. So, we have to argue for our cases. I suspected that his band was band A, and that's why I was playing with my posts in the final match. I tried to make a case for the opposing band, just to get under his skin. But, I knew I was going to vote for A in the end anyway, because I think it's the band that should win that match. That's the way the WBC works.

| Whenever bshugg gets around to it, I suppose. Since we're neck deep in qualifier season, maybe it'll take a little while.
I'd like to see him start it after we get the stats for the new (old) set.

| I would bet the new one will be 2.0. BShugg, the last 1.0 WBC winner!
