| | One thing that happened was the party grew to have a great deal of respect for the lowly darkmantle. They very quickly went from those squidy umbrellas to something to run from in a lot of cases. | | I am a leaf on the wind...Urrk!!--Wash, "Serenity" | |

| | The group I'm DMing left the A section before they were 3rd level, they just kept wandering north. I didn't blast them like i cuold have, I toned the encounters down a bit until they were the appropriate level. So far it's an okay dungeon, I'm not overly impressed with it. But yeah, they'll look at Darkmantles a little differently. | | You know, I keep thinking that after the new design team gets done with D&D 4e, D&D won't stand for Dungeons and Dragons anymore, because well, that's just not fun. | | I find that you really have to have a good overview of the area they are in and the major factions involved. The party was able to play on an orc-kobold war and the kobolds justifiable fear of the fiendish darkmantles to their advantage. | | I am a leaf on the wind...Urrk!!--Wash, "Serenity" | |

| | Do you keep the areas that the party hasn't reached yet static? Or have you kept the WLD in motion since they entered? I've kept it static. | | You know, I keep thinking that after the new design team gets done with D&D 4e, D&D won't stand for Dungeons and Dragons anymore, because well, that's just not fun. | Oh he's kept it pretty dynamic. Our party can't neccesarily camp in the same place twice for fear that the goblins will rush in to replace the kobolds we killed, or the kobolds will rush in to replace the orcs we killed, or everyone will rush in to replace the darkmantles we killed.

| | I've been able to get a lot of milage off of the various factions in the first area of the dungeon. Maybe later on, there will be areas (oozes and such) that don't notice when the neighbours go missing but I'm only staying one area ahead for now. No time for more. Good thing Area B has more faction goodness. | | I am a leaf on the wind...Urrk!!--Wash, "Serenity" | |

| | After re-reading my post it sounds as though I have the whole dungeon static. I don't. Once the characters interact with an area the area becomes 'live'. So when the party is exploring the 'A' area, the 'B' area remains static. Once they enter the 'B' area it becomes active and so on. I'm not sure I made this clear. | | You know, I keep thinking that after the new design team gets done with D&D 4e, D&D won't stand for Dungeons and Dragons anymore, because well, that's just not fun. | | And funny time travel should be mentioned. We're no longer sure how long we have been in the dungeoun. Somewhere between 5 weeks and 10 years at this point. And technically my character longer than the others by at least a week although we all came in together. | | "We can't stop here...This Is Bat country!"

| | I found that I had to change the area boss from Longtail to a halfdragon kobold sorcerer named Brrnkyll. The party was not geared to overcome the DR of the lycanthrope and it would have been a TPK. I found the kobold to fit the area dynamic much better anyway and there were two or three memorable battles before his narrow defeat at the hands of the elven war mage and the half-orc fighter (a 5th player who joined). Having learned a great deal from the main gate, he had "tweaked" the other (colored balls) to lead the party to a bad, bad place he was using to have his troops recover from their fights with the orcs. Though being there healed the party, it was discovered that the magical food and water there was actually the rotting aftermath of some great Heaven-Hell battle and they had been feeding on the slain. In a perverse twist, I had the party perceive the place as a landscape of candy out of a children's fairy tale and they gorged with glee as their brains screamed at them that something is horribly wrong. As you can see, I changed a lot to better suit my group and game. | | I am a leaf on the wind...Urrk!!--Wash, "Serenity" | |

| The question i have about this product is......
Is the World's Largest Dungeon worth the price? How is the game balance? Does it appear to have been throroughly playtested?

| | That's a hard one to answer because everyone's opinion varies. I feel it is well worth the money given the wealth of ready to use stat blocks I'll be able to mine even after the dungeon is bested (or, more likely, the party goes out in a blast of glory). I do feel that the challenge rating is sometimes too high for starting characters. Some of the areas boast killer traps for the average 1st-2nd level characters and the Area A end boss is a TPK for sure given the lack of DR bypassing weapons and such to be found. A fiendish owlbear would tear a 1st-3rd level party apart in all likelyhood. Thank god my group didn't wander into owlbear town. | | I am a leaf on the wind...Urrk!!--Wash, "Serenity" | |

| I really like the WLD. I'm running it as well, but with a slight twist. My PCs were 8th level, and are after an artifact they had researched. Upon entering the Area A (the point of no return for them), I stripped them of their weapons, armor, magic, etc. Each PC got only a specific class related item (holy symbol, spellbook without components, lockpicks, etc.). LOL, I thought they were gonna lynch me! They have done fairly well even after I bumped up the encounters, though longtail proved a very difficult encounter and the imp is looking for revenge!
Now they are looking for their own personal equipment (sometimes being used by the monsters) as well as the famous artifact. It has proven to be quite enjoyable thus far...well, for me at least. | | The party has crossed the border into Region B and reached 4th level at last. They have brokered a non-agression pact with the bugbears to help with the goblin civil war going on and finally put an end to that pesky imp (with celestial archon help). Since one of the challenges involved an obelisk with many shapes they had to figure out, I substituted a game of PERFECTION I had. It worked out amazingly well with everyone scrambling to place the proper shapes in time. They have heard ominous rumours of Death Heads and Dogs. Not Dogs. Dogs. and weird wolves in the area from their bugbear allies (I figure the humanoids don't call these monsters by their MM names and go for descriptive terms instead.) The party has figured out that Dogs. Not Dogs. Dogs. are blink dogs and the warmage thinks he knows what Death Heads are. We'll see if he is right. | | I am a leaf on the wind...Urrk!!--Wash, "Serenity" | |

| **possible Map Spoiler for Players**
If you play/DM WLD, and own any sort of Dwarven Forge/Hirst Arts... DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BUILD IT AS YOU GO!!!!
I decided to prepare the first room (A1) for the players... I figured, yeah build the first room and place aside what I need for when they enter the 2nd area...
Yeah right!
I believe I have a fairly descent amount of DF (see my list on my website)... well I ONLY JUST managed to get the first (A1) room built...

This image shows more of my DF collection.. there is more just outside the pic's frame...

***POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT***
My PC's have also crossed over into area B, however the party cleric has been stoned. I don't want to spoil this for anyone, but Grim I think you may know happened. hehehe...Yet they continue on.
P.S. My group hates everyone in Area B, the Paladin has decided that these evil creatures must convert to goodness or die. Very Spanish Inquisition of him! | Hmmm ok.... after careful consideration.. I have decided to use the 1 inch = 5ft scale instead of the 10ft scale as listed in the WLD.
With this in mind.. now I can make this much of the dungeon in one hit...

It still took alot of 'poetic liscencing', but it was do-able.

| "He's dead Jim." And so is he, and him, that snake over there is dead, and that guy over there.
Well, it turns out that there is a room of ghouls, ghast lords, shadows, and ghoul paladins buffed up by numerous effects in a room in the world's largest dungeon. And a brain eating mob of that size it urns out is more than a match for a 5th level warforged soulknife, a 5th level elven warmage, a 5th level halfling spirit shaman, a 4th level dwarven ranger (and his viper) and a 4th level human cleric of a time god.
Oh well, on to the next band of foolhardy adventurers. I was enjoying the warmage, but I think I'll enjoy the new character as well (a half-orc barbarian who wields a spiked chain, I wonder what fig I could use for that?)
I just hope that if we arrive in the same room with this party that we don't have to fight the ghoulish incarnation of the last party, though we probably will. | | "We can't stop here...This Is Bat country!"

| | Ghoul anti-paladins actually by description, though I'm not sure how they pulled that off without the blackguard switcharoo. Very tough room when you count the four rooms full of other undead leading off the main chamber. 11 different conditions (including one that made you fall down if you moved more than half speed. Reflex save to avoid. Another that gave the undead concealment unless you were next to them, a third that gave them turn resistance up the wah, you get the picture.) If the half-vargouille warmage hadn't been paralyzed early on the fight could have gone the other way. Or if there were more incorporeal undead in there (the halfling spirit shaman can chastise spirits to the tune of 5d6 damage in a blast several times). | | I am a leaf on the wind...Urrk!!--Wash, "Serenity" | |

| | Oh, and to those planning to play through this monster of a dungeon. See if you can sneak a warforged past your DM. It was funny to see vacuum traps, drowning traps (avoided but wouldn't have worked), lots of darts (doing maybe 1 pt each if lucky), mold spores, poison galore....all slide right off the metal monstrosity. | | I am a leaf on the wind...Urrk!!--Wash, "Serenity" | |
