Nope, not an April Fools thing. It's on Amazon.com for pre-order for $14. Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't searched for it myself.

Thought about grabbing a copy and handing it around my group. Sometimes I don't think they could pick up a dice without.... OK that's another topic entirely. Would be kinda neat to take a look through though.

So they've finally gotten around to releasing this book. It's not a bad idea, for someone who has never Role-played at all. But I just don't know how profitable it can be. I'm sure adventure modules would be less of a risk then a Dummies guide (especially set in the FR). But then i'm sure they've done the marketing on it already, so what do I know??

Well, with a 11 and 12 year old in the house who are both interested in D&D, I'd say it makes a fair amount of sense.

Many of us are 1st generation gamers (in some cases, we're the first generation that COULD game), and we're trying to get our spawn--err, "children" into things. Unfortunately, not everyone has the same level of patience, and not everyone is a good teacher.

I think this book could really help get our younglings into things.

I feel young... I'm only 6 years older than your kid [:P]

But really, My mom bought me my books at age 12 and I didn't need that, I guess it depends on the person, sounds like a fun buy though.

I was about 10 when the bug bit me. And I haven't been the same since.

But I also know people that never gamed until they were well into their 20's. It's just another option for helping to learn the game. From the description of what's in the book (with topics concerning etiquette, etc.), it's even possible we might start cleaning up the Gamer Image. That would be good.

I think its a great idea.

Even full fledged gamers who have been at it for years should pick this up.

It may have some really good ideas in it.

This book is a must-buy.

I'll certainly take a look at it.

Like Can of Cave Beer, I have kids that I'm going to want to introduce to D&D. Do you remember how you learned to read? How to do Math? Teachers do amazing things with kids, and I'm NO teacher.

If the dummies book provides easy to explain examples, and provides a framework for a "basic" D&D, that then tells you what to add on as you progress to get fully up to speed, I'm definatley interested in looking at that as a framework to teach my kids.

To me, the easier it is to get new people involved and knoledgeable of RPGs, the better.
What better way to do it than with a dummies book
Must buy i think

I am going to get it just so I can sucker my wife back into playing D&D. (Of course, that will be after the baby is born probably, but still I do not want her stuck in the hotel room when I go to conventions, although she does seem to enjoy the quiet.)
