Yes it is true.

In 3.0 they did stack, but it was changed in 3.5

The same is true, by the way, with magical arrows, meaning you only get a +1 to damage, not +2. Although if you had a +1 Flaming Bow and +1 Ice Arrows you'd get both forms of elemental damage.

Magical bows are *much* better in 3.5 than they were in 3.0. What I like is buying special material ammo (like adamantine) and using it with a magical bow. Yummmmm.

Regards,
Steve F.

out of curiosity, how are magical bows better in 3.5, if they stack less than they did in 3.0?

I'm wondering the same thing. It seems like a 3.0 archer would shoot the pants off of a 3.5 archer with all the allowable stacking.

It's because you can use normal arrows and then make them magical by virtue of the bow. In 3e, if you fired a normal arrow with a magic bow, it wouldn't penetrate DR at all.

Cheers!

So what happens if you fire a chaotic-aligned arrow out of a lawful-aligned bow? Do you get an explosion, like matter and antimatter? [:P]

I believe that they would actually stack. As does fire and frost, etc.

But an explosion would be much cooler.
