First off, good to be back, just got my at home internet set up again. Yay.
Now to the point. I personally love Whisper Gnomes. The concept of quiet, serious subrace of gnomes is just plain awesome. Here is my problem; These days I DM most of the games my group plays, and I'm starting to achieve true game balance awareness. That said, when looking at the game stats of the Whisper Gnomes, at first glance, they seem a tad over powered. When compared to the common Rock Gnome, you'll see that they share most abilities, but with some variances. The Whisper trades in a +2 bonus on Alchemy checks for a +2 bonus on spot checks. The spell like abilities of the two subraces are different, but equal in terms of power. All minor differences, but here come the big ones. Rock Gs have minor bonuses to resist the illusions of others, and to improve their own. Whispers on the other hand enjoy Darkvision, a base speed of 30ft, and a +4 racial bonus to move silently and hide checks. I look at this, and I feel a slight imbalance. Big enough to overshadow the common gnome, but to small to merit a LA. Am I wrong? Do the racial bonuses even out? If not, how would you, the maxminis community suggest the Whisper Gs be modified for game balance?
Thanks, sorry for the long post.
Part of what makes this gnome interesting is the abilities he has that other gnomes do not. i'd start balancing him by taking away the standard gnome traits. | | "We can't stop here...This Is Bat country!"

| | I'd try comparing them to some of the other races. Do they seem balanced relative to Elves? Elves get Martial Weapon Proficiency(longsword and longbow), darkvision, 30 ft speed, chance to notice secret doors without spending time looking for them, etc. | | "Why am I all sticky and naked?
